My SSS-Rank Gluttony Talent: I Can Evolve Limitlessly -
Chapter 66: A simple plan
Chapter 66: A simple plan
Just outside the boss area, Yano kept grinning to himself.
The cheers, the excitement, the desperate battle cries of players still rushing forward... it was all music to his ears.
None of them had a clue they had fallen to his trap, marching straight to their deaths all because of a lie he told.
’Idiots,’ Yano thought, his eyes narrowing with pleasure. ’All of them... absolute fools.’
Viren’s talent had never been Poison Negation.
It was Master Illusionist—an A-rank talent so deceptive and dangerous that very few even knew its full scope.
One of its main abilities was to create complex illusions that completely fooled both the sight, hearing and smell.
And because the players couldn’t see it or smell it anymore, their minds didn’t resist. They simply accepted the illusion as truth.
The only known way to see through such a high-tier illusion was through certain extremely powerful perception-based artifacts or high-tier detection skills... and Yano doubted any of these newcomers had anything of the sort.
They were too weak, desperate and stupid to see through it.
The illusion wouldn’t have worked if the gap between Viren’s strength and the targets was too wide—but most of the people gathered here were nothing special.
Each of them were relatively new players who hadn’t gathered much strength yet, or unfortunate beta players who were still trying to curry favour from the Noble Lion Guild.
His [Monarch’s Compulsion] had only made things easier, as the crowd readily accepted his words as the truth.
Even now, dozens more players were still dashing into the boss zone, not knowing what truly awaited them inside.
Since Viren’s illusion was still active, they couldn’t see the mist still permeating the area, neither could they see the players getting slaughtered by the scorpion.
All they could see were players fighting the monster boss, its H/P gradually shrinking with each of their attacks, and the scorpion getting dominated.
Not even the screams reached their ears, already concealed by Viren’s power.
"Look!" one of the players yelled. "They’re actually fighting it! The attacks are landing!"
"Oh my god—it’s working!"
"We’re really doing it! This is it! This is our moment!"
They rushed forward, one after the other, their morale rising higher than ever before.
Even some of Yano’s guild members had joined the charge—eager to put on a show, eager to win favor, eager to be seen leading the fight.
But Yano didn’t care whether happened to them, not even a little.
All that mattered were the ten standing by his sides, especially his sister. All the others were just extras, pawns he could cast away anytime, anyway.
His lips stretched further, pulling into a sharp, crooked grin.
A flash of red pulsed in his black eyes.
’Yes...’ he thought. ’That’s it. Run into the fog. Gasp for air. Bleed yourselves dry. Die to the poison.’
He extended a hand lazily in front of him, as though brushing aside a curtain.
Below, another wave of players screamed in joy and charged.
’And when you’re gone... when you’ve all collapsed at the boss’s feet...’
’Victory will finally be mine!’ he thought, watching as more players vanished one after the other into white particles.
He wasn’t just sacrificing them for nothing, though he couldn’t deny he wasn’t enjoying the scene and screams.
However, he had a goal... one he had been planning for a while now.
As terrifying and overwhelming as the blood poison gas was, it wasn’t without flaw, and the monster boss couldn’t sustain it till eternity.
The Crimson Blood Scorpion had a major weakness, which was the rate the gas consumed its mana.
The more beings that were affected by it—whether players or monsters, the faster that mana drained.
Apart from that, utilizing the blood poison gas for too long could also affect its health, as its body would automatically sacrifice it to keep up the mist release.
The monster knew this however, which was why it felt it had poisoned more than enough, it always retracted its poison, in a bid to conserve its strength.
It was why it also went around personally, slaying some of its players with its large tail, so it could minimise the effect of its poison, and also preserve its mana.
Yano’s eyes narrowed with cold delight.
That time frame when the beast would finally retract its poison was what he was waiting for.
When that happened, the scorpion would have to gather it from scratch to release it again, meaning, there would be no poisonous mist for a long while.
That delay when it was preserving its mana was when he would strike, along with the ten most trusted members of his guild.
They woukd launch everything they had at it, utilizing their skills, items and talents to overpower it.
It was a rather simple plan, but it was one he was sure would work.
Because apart the gas, the monster wasn’t nearly as dangerous, as it had no other attack skill.
Its only real weapons would then be its thick, armored carapace—and that jet-black, needle-pointed tail.
Though the poison in its tail was twice deadlier than the gas, it wasn’t too fast for them could handle.
As long as they avoided it, and coordinated their attacks properly, they would be able to overpower it quite easily.
Yano’s smirk deepened.
He glanced to his side, watching as his sister floated silently, her daggers sheathed at her sides, eyes focused on the boss ahead.
’Don’t forget." he said, glancing at each of them. "Make sure I land the last hit, understood?"
"Yes." Most of them smeared, nodding their heads.
The only one who ignored him was Yira, who scoffed and rolled her eyes.
Suddenly, a violent cough erupted beside him.
Yano blinked, his grin fading as one of the men standing to his left doubled over midair, violently coughing blood from his mouth.
"What the—?!" Yano snapped, turning sharply. "What the hell is happening!?"
The man kept groaning, clutching his chest as blood dripped from the corners of his lips.
