My SSS-Rank Gluttony Talent: I Can Evolve Limitlessly
Chapter 56: How can you see it?

Chapter 56: How can you see it?

Riley’s gaze sharpened, and his hand instinctively reached to his side.

Swish!

In a flash, he drew both of his daggers, pointing one of them at the girl.

The girl flinched in shock, springing up on her feet.

Strangely enough, the strange monster on her shoulder didn’t react, only sleeping like it had no worries in the world.

"H-Hey—wait!" she stammered, taking a small step back. "I only helped you, alright? There’s no need to attack me!"

Riley didn’t move.

His eyes stayed locked on her face, cold and unreadable.

"Who are you?" he asked, taking one step at her. "And how can you see my player ID?"

Riley’s eyes narrowed again, and he glanced above her head.

[ID: Lonely_Butterfly]

[Level: 10]

[H/P: 480]

’Lonely Butterfly...?’ he thought, scoffing under his breath. ’And you say I have a weird ID.’

Still, what caught his attention more than the name was the number next to her level tab.

His gaze darkened slightly.

’Level 10 huh? She’s probably a beta player.’

It wasn’t hard to guess. Most of the players above level 7 at this stage were former beta testers—those who had early access to the game before its public release.

Compared to new players, they had better information, smoother combat instincts, and more precise knowledge of how to level up quickly.

Riley, was the only anomaly, having already reached level 10 despite only being a new player.

His absurd levelling speed wasn’t just because of his past life, or how he had hunting monsters without rest.

It was mostly due to his broken SSS-rank Gluttony talent, as he would have already been crushed long before now if he was without it.

’I doubt most of the new players have even reached level 5,’ he thought. ’Levelling up in [Apocalypse] is quite difficult, and will only get more difficult.’

The fact that she was already at ten...

That alone proved she wasn’t normal.

Even if Summoners lacked combat stats, they could still become dangerous if they had the right monsters.

And for this girl to reach level ten, then that little thing on her shoulder—whatever it was—had to be far stronger than it looked.

His grip on his dagger subtly shifted.

Just then, the girl tilted her head, her blue eyes wide with innocence.

"See what?" she asked, blinking. "That’s just how it shows up, isn’t it? Everyone’s ID is visible...’

Riley scoffed.

Her performance was good, but he wasn’t buying it.

"No," he said flatly. "No other player can see my ID..."

He took another step closer.

"So I’ll ask again—how come you can see it?"

The girl’s lips parted slightly.

Then she gulped.

A small bead of sweat rolled down the side of her face.

Her confident front cracked, just for a moment—and Riley saw it.

Her posture tensed, and she looked to the side, suddenly aware of how serious his tone had become.

But a second later, she let out a soft sigh.

"Yeah... you got me," she said with a smile.

Her tone was calm, but it carried a strange weight.

She slowly brought a hand to her hip, resting it there casually, as though her previous actions were mere acts.

"But to think no one else can see your ID... huh," she said, brushing a hand through her hair. "I must be special, then... isn’t that right, Ran?"

Riley’s frown deepened, already getting frustrated by her antics.

"I don’t have time for games."

He took another step forward, his daggers still pointed at her.

"Since you can see my ID," he said, his lips curving into a thin smirk, "Then you should already have an idea of what I’m capable of."

"I’d be more careful if I were you." he said, a sharp glint flashing across his eyes.

The girl didn’t reply, but her expression twitched, and her body trembled slightly.

Then...

The monster on her shoulder moved.

Riley noticed it immediately.

Its head slowly turned—still resting against her shoulder, its tiny body unshifting.

But now its narrow snout was angled in his direction.

He didn’t miss it.

His stance quickly changed, and his gaze sharpened, ready for the monster to attack anytime soon.

If it moved even a hair wrong, he’d strike.

But then he noticed something strange.

Its eyes were still closed, its enitre body completely still.

He couldn’t even sense any aggression or killing intent from it, and the strange monster just sat there, almost like it had no idea about what was happening around it.

But still, something about it sent a chill down Riley’s spine, and he still didn’t let his guard down.

’It looks just like a lizard... what kind of monster does she even have?’ he thought.

Suddenly, the creature’s eyes widened, and Riley’s body tensed.

Twin golden orbs slowly revealed themselves—beady, narrow, and glowing like small twin suns.

His breath hitched.

Those eyes... they were beautiful.

Not in a mundane or comforting way, but in a way that sent a ripple down his spine. Like staring into something ancient, something powerful.

The longer he looked, the more unreal they seemed. The glow within them pulsed softly, like embers trapped behind glass.

His eyes widened.

’Golden eyes...?’ he thought, stunned. ’Isn’t that... a trait held only by dragons?!’

His grip on his dagger loosened slightly.

"That monster..." he muttered, half in disbelief. "Could it be... a dragon?"

The girl blinked, then she broke into a slight chuckle, amused at his reaction.

"I knew it," she said with a smirk. "You clearly aren’t an ordinary player."

She rested a hand on her hip again, her smile widening.

"I should be the one asking you... just who are you?" she said lightly. "You don’t exactly seem like ’A Random’ in this game. Maybe... the main character?"

She burst into laughter at her own words, finding the joke far funnier than she should have.

Riley’s brows twitched.

He stared at her blankly, not sure whether to feel surprised or just... confused.

He was still pointing a dagger at her throat.

And yet here she was—smiling, laughing, acting like they were just two friends sharing a joke. There wasn’t even a sign of panic on her face.

Either she was truly bold... or completely insane.

His gaze shifted once more to the monster on her shoulder.

Even now, its golden eyes stared back at him, unblinking. Though there was still no hostility or killing intent oozing from it, its eyes alone seemed to speak volumes.

A dragon.

That’s what it looked like.

He had never seen a young dragon before, as they were one of the rarest of monsters, creatures that ruled like Demi-gods.

He had once heard about Terry and his group defeating a powerful dragon in his past life, but he hadn’t been there to witness it personally.

And yet now... he couldn’t help but wonder whether the monster before him was one of such monsters.

His eyes narrowed again.

"There’s no need to be wary about me," the girl said, her voice soft and gentle.

She slowly lowered herself back onto the mat, sitting cross-legged once more.

"Seriously," she added. "I don’t plan on hurting you. I can’t, even if I tried."

Her words came out casually, like a passing remark.

However, Riley’s frown remained on his face.

"If you’re not hiding anything..." he said. "Then say who you are."

For a brief moment, silence reigned between then, then the girl sighed, breaking it.

She looked up at him, her bright blue eyes meeting his once more.

"My name is Miranda," she said, brushing another strand of hair from her face. "Miranda Dawson."
