Chapter 30: Scar V.

"Shadow... I’m cold..." Liora’s breathing was slightly burdened. Her breath could be seen every time she exhaled.

"Are you sure I can’t use some fire magic?" She asked doubtful. Shadow shook his head slightly. He had to admit, the cavern’s temperature had gotten extremely low, and very fast at that.

He knew he couldn’t fight under these unfavorable conditions, the frost was caused by someone amongst the men who approached them.

"I have an idea..." He said. His breathing began getting slower. He could see Ice forming at the tips of his fingers.

"Ever heard of thermal conduction?" He asked her. Liora shook her head, not able to make sense of what Shadow had just said.

Shadow rubbed his hands together, he needed a way to counter this cold.

"Listen to me closely". He stopped and turned at her.

"Are you able to raise the temperature of an object slightly, but not reaching the point of it melting?"

She nodded.

"Good. You’re going to do that with our bodies. Raise our body temperature itself. Not an external source of heat, our body heat, but not to the extent where we suffer damage" he finished.

That should stop the frostbite.

Liora closed her eyes and placed a hand on Shadow’s back. Slowly she felt at the heat source of the body, it was a tricky situation, but she understood the principles behind it, so the rest was easy.

Motion!

That was what kept the body warm, the continuous movement of blood, the organs, the pumping of the heart, the entire body system moved as one. If she could just accelerate this motion a bit faster.

She felt at the blood vessels, she had to be cautious, all she had to do was apply a vector principle into this situation.

Giving the blood magnitude, it already had direction. Slowly, surely, Shadows heart began beating faster, his blood pressure shot up, his brain functions drastically increased.

Liora wasn’t sure if she did the right thing or not.

"Uuurgh, not exactly what I asked you to do. But this is fine" Shadow cracked his neck slightly to the left and looked ahead. He knew he couldn’t remain in this state for long.

"Liora. This is a spell, right?"

"Yeah it is" she responded.

"So I’ll be in this state until you decide otherwise?"

She nodded.

Shadow grinned and dashed forward.

"Don’t fall behind me, let’s finish this as fast as possible".

Three men walked in unison, but one walked slower than the others. The two who were before him seemed wary of the third man, frost crept up their necks due to their close proximity to the man...

His face had long been scarred by fire, he had no eyes, or brows, both melted into his skin, a wide permanent grin remained in his face. He didn’t seem to care either.

"H...how far up are they, Boss?" Liam asked, he walked a bit faster than he had intended, he just couldn’t stand the cold. But worse than that, he couldn’t stand the sight of that thing that floated beside the Boss.

An Ice spirit.

"Close enough, they shouldn’t be able to move now" Scar responded.

Hardly ever did he do so, his voice sounded of rocks grating against each other. It had always been a wonder to Liam how the boss could see so well without having eyes, maybe he used the evil spirit to see?

"Closer... Much closer" Scar repeated excitedly.

Druu looked at Liam and shook his head slightly. "Boss, I still think we could have brought everyone over here. Sam and Finn haven’t returned yet, they could be dead. You being here is too dangerous..." He was truly bothered for the Boss.

"Fuuuurther" a ghostly voice escaped the lips of a silhouette, the ice spirit pointed in the direction of Shadow. Scar’s smile deepened.

"It’s all for the Demon King. If we kill that pawn of the gods here. Then nothing shall stop the return of the Demon King. Hurry".

Scar walked faster, frost formed in the air itself, freezing the very moisture that dampened the cave.

Scar stopped in his steps suddenly. "How can they move?" He mumbled. Liam and Druu caught up with Scar, still maintaining a good distance from him.

They looked around anxiously as they heard the steps of two people slowly approaching.

"Kill them! Kill them now!!!" Scar shouted, taking a step back.

"Druu, go get the others, I’ll protect the Boss. Go now!" He screamed and turned to face Shadow.

Shadow walked calmly towards them, his hands had gotten blue from the cold at some point, but they had their warmth back.

"Is that a ghost?" Shadow squinted. He did see three men, one ran back to the other to get help. Another one protected their Boss. But something else floated beside Scar.

"That’s an elemental spirit" Liora said standing by Shadow’s side.

"An elemental spirit?"

"It’s a force of nature, a magical spirit that has authority over a singular element given to us by the gods. They’re insanely powerful Shadow" Liora warned.

Shadow grinned. "So it’s just a really strong fridge that can move, then".

He drew out his dagger and stretched his aching joints. His clothes shattered into bits and pieces, falling to this ground.

"What the..."

"Seems your clothes turned into ice and broke. If you’re not careful, the same thing will happen to your body. It’ll be hard to heal that" Liora sighed.

Shadow looked at his naked body and back to Scar and the man who stood before him.

"How do I kill the spirit?" He asked.

Liora shook her head. "You can’t, you can only dispel it from this realm by killing the host that feeds it mana, without that, it can’t manifest itself". Liora finished and took several steps back.

"Good good. Just keep that spell up Liora. Wouldn’t want my body turning into an icicle". Shadow faced the man who held a mace. A spiked mace. He sighed.

"Whatever happened to swords and arrows? Spiked maces? Really?".

[NOTICE].

[ACQUIRE INFORMATION ON THE DEMON CULT].

[KILL ALL MEMBERS].
