Chapter 127: Spiritual Flesh Field
Chapter 127: Chapter 127: Spiritual Flesh Field
Though hunting demons and picking corpses could also provide value to Wang Zijia, it wouldn’t be as efficient.
’I guess I was assuming too much. After all, this is a breeding ground maintained by the sect. If it were polluted with dirty blood mud, it would turn countless disciples into sinners.’
With a flash of thought, Wang Zijia took a light breath and carefully moved towards the center of the canyon, the location of the Demon Dragon’s Seal.
After only taking two steps, the ground suddenly gave way beneath him, and Wang Zijia fell.
The energy shield draped over his body crystallized instantly upon contact with the filthy blood water, formed a crystal shield. A rush of mana propelled upwards from his feet like a surge of air, momentarily suspending him mid-air, then turning him into a streak of streaming light that zipped towards a nearby reef stone.
Once stable again, he frowned and peered at the surrounding stones, which showed no signs of any anomalies. Around him, people continued to rise and fall, accompanied by the occasional piercing screams of a child.
Some had an immediate setback and decisively jumped back up onto the cliff after glimpsing the bone-white, starting all over again.
Others, more obstinate, persisted until they finally fell into the blood water and dissolved into a wisp of cyan smoke.
Each time a child died, a cluster of blood light would rise and plunge into the body of the Demon Dragon at the center of the canyon. The body of the Demon Dragon writhed like something was attempting to wriggle out.
Wang Zijia progressed cautiously, hopping around, and half an hour later, he finally arrived at the center of the canyon, in front of a few massive mountain pillars.
By then, many children were already standing on the surrounding reef stones—there must’ve been two to three hundred of them—each nervously looking up at the Demon Dragon giant snake chained between the mountain pillars.
After waiting for a long time, a disciple couldn’t hold back anymore, reached out, and took out all the blood crystals he had prepared. The moment he released his mana, the blood crystals emitted an eerie red light.
It seemed the corpse of the Demon Dragon giant snake in the sky sensed the aura of these blood crystals. A bloody tentacle rapidly grew out of the corpse, dripping with rotting flesh, and started to wriggle.
The disciple, trembling, held up a big sack full of blood crystals. The tentacle penetrated the sack and absorbed the blood crystals as if it was blood.
Strands of foul-smelling, sticky fluids dripped from the tentacle, fell onto the young man’s hand, and smoldered into cyan smoke. The young man, grimacing, clenched his teeth, and didn’t move a muscle.
Once the bloody tentacle had drained all of the blood crystals, the runes on the two chains that bound the Demon Dragon in the sky flashed, and a stream of cyan light erupted from the young man’s body and embedded itself into the chain.
At this time, the young man’s face immediately tightened up.
Wang Zijia, too, quietly watched this scene unfold. According to the records, blood crystals were offerings and part of the necessary nutrients for the Demon Dragon, whereas the cyan light was the evaluation of your contribution this time by the seal device. Together, they decided the final outcome of acquiring the spiritual object.
The young man only waited for a moment before the bloody tentacle suddenly severed a piece and dropped the tip into his hand. The piece resembled a massive pink earthworm and writhed ceaselessly.
Disappointment flashed across the young man’s face. However, he didn’t forget to politely bow towards the vast sky, took the flesh bud, and left straight away without lingering.
Once someone took the lead, others began their actions.
Everybody started taking out the blood crystals. Most of them had at least a hundred or so. Some even had several hundreds.
Wang Zijia didn’t make a move immediately; instead, he silently observed. Many of the disciples from the Three Sects behaved in a similar way.
Because they were privy to some inside information, every spiritual object point in the flesh field needs a nutrient surge at the final maturation stage.
And, these blood crystals served that exact purpose.
So, the best time to act was when it was nourished to full maturity. That said, this didn’t mean spiritual objects wouldn’t appear before then. It’s just that the chances would be slightly better.
After waiting for about a quarter of an hour, countless blood crystals were devoured by the tentacles that extended down from the sky, and the body of the Demon Dragon snake in the sky squirmed a little more noticeably.
"Bobo!"
Suddenly, a sound of explosion resonated.
On the body of the Demon Dragon Giant Snake, a rotten flesh pit burst open, dispersing blood mist and spreading a stench.
A white flesh mass, ephemeral almost like a maggot, wrapped in spiritual light, was slowly swimming downwards.
Everyone was taken aback simultaneously. Many pairs of eyes filled with thirst yet no one dared to act.
The spiritual-light-covered flesh mass swam in front of a young man. With an ecstatic face, he grabbed the flesh without hesitation and threw it directly into his mouth. He immediately sat down cross-legged, with waves of blood light shimmering upon him, continually emerging.
After a moment, his aura gradually stabilized as the bloody light continuously retracted.
Seeing this, everyone felt a pang of disappointment and turned their attention elsewhere.
At this point, disciples from the Three Sects couldn’t help but try their luck. This set off a chain reaction, and one by one they all produced large bags of blood crystals. At least several hundreds, some even extracting thousands.
Tentacles extended downward again, accompanied by waves of blue light infiltrating the shackles. The runes on the shackles flickered incessantly and with a slight sway, made the entire Snake Body gently oscillate.
The meat strips also swayed, akin to willows in the wind.
"Bobo..."
With the start of this wave, the flesh buds on the snake body exploded one by one. Chunks of white flesh resembling maggots, wrapped in spiritual light, swam down towards the crowd below.
It landed in the hands of surprised or indifferent people.
Most of the Three Sects’ disciples sealed it properly and stored it away, while the other loose cultivators almost all sat cross-legged on the spot to meditate and recover after swallowing the meat chunks.
Wang Zijia, estimating the time was right, intended to take out his blood crystals to make an offering too.
"Roar!"
At this moment, a young man atop a reef stone who had swallowed a meat chunk, his blood light didn’t retract as expected, instead his energy became more violent.
Immediately after, his entire body energetically exploded, and simultaneously, he let out a beastlike roar.
His skin rapidly turned red, blood-red scales sprouting from under his skin, piercing through the flesh. In a blink of an eye, the man was transformed into a bloody figure.
"Bang!"
Before he could react, his aura rolled over, and his body exploded.
His body scattered, with bits of fragmented meat falling into the blood water below, turning into a green smoke and disappearing.
Only a smaller, blood-stained, no longer pristine, wriggling light-covered flesh chunk was left.
A young man nearest to him was startled initially, but his eyes quickly lit up, snatched up the white spiritual light, triggered his full mana, which turned into a streak of light, and he rushed out of the canyon.
Seeing this, some who had obtained the meat buds but hadn’t left, their eyes twinkling, several of them immediately gave chase.
Wang Zijia watched this scene, his gaze flickered momentarily before returning to normal. He was here to find spiritual medicine lead, to prepare for the Penglai Warehouse in the future, and focused specifically on those Wriggling Meat Buds which each person could get only one.
The complete spiritual object would have been a bonus, but its absence wouldn’t be a crucial loss. Thus, he let them fight over it. The best outcome would be if they fought until they were oblivious to their surroundings then he could swoop in to clear up.
