Chapter 95: Mana Heart

Chapter 95: Chapter 95: Mana Heart

After arriving at the academy’s teleportation station, Lake quickly spotted Kate who had a set of crates beside her.

A few of the academy’s inspectors were talking to Kate and seemed to be going through some minor procedures, as Lake saw one of them going through a checklist as they talked to Kate.

Although the academy had a strict inspection system when it came to any foreign objects entering the academy’s grounds, as long as the materials weren’t contraband or too hazardous, students looking to bring something in only had to go through a routine inspection and have the purpose of the items recorded.

Knowing that she was currently going through such an inspection, Lake waited by the side for her to finish.

After a few minutes, the instructors left after checking over the items once more. Only then did Lake walk up to Kate.

Kate had noticed that Lake had arrived a while ago and when she saw him approaching she casually pointed at the set of crates.

"These are all the items you wanted."

"Mhm." Lake nodded his head as he also inspected all the items. After making sure that everything he needed was there he turned to Kate.

"Thanks for the assistance."

"Don’t mention it, I was just repaying my second favor."

"However, I must ask, what do you plan to do with all this... stuff." Kate spoke as she looked at the set of random materials.

Everything Lake had wanted could be described as extremely abnormal. There were various metals, gems and strange herbs that were mutated by mana. There were also large amounts of blood from various high ranking beasts and several pieces of lab equipment.

Aa Kate was going through the inspection, she had spent most of the time trying to explain what all of these materials were for. This was especially true for the blood that took up several crates worth of space!

When the inspectors saw that there was more than 20 liters of high ranking beast blood, they were all shocked and secretly wondering whether Kate was part of some cult or something.

Fortunately, Kate was able to make up several reasonable explanations for each item, saving her from the strange gazes of the inspectors.

The reason she had to make up several reasons was that not once had Lake explained what was the purpose of everything he wanted.

Naturally, this left her curious so she finally took the chance to ask after seeing the materials in person.

"These are materials to help with the practice of everyone. You’ll know the effects once I return from my hunt." Lake replied simply.

Hearing him mention the word hunt, Kate asked curiously, "You’re leaving for tomorrow right?"

Lake had already told her about him working with the third years to hunt monsters as a condition for using the land beside the arena.

"Indeed." Lake replied simply as he started moving the crates.

Seeing this, Kate went up and picked up a few crates along with Lake.

Although there were many crates, weighing more than a few hundred pounds in total, both Lake and Kate were able to easily lift them.

"Any idea on how long it would take to finish?"

"Not really, maybe it’ll take a few days or less. We plan on spending the first day scouting and gathering intel before making a move."

"What about the training program in the meantime?"

"I plan to leave behind a few assignments for each of them to do. If they’re able to complete them, their fitness index should increase by a bit."

As the two walked, Kate continued to ask several questions to which Lake only replied passively. Some of the questions were random but Lake noticed that a few of them involved some advanced mana concepts.

Immediately, Lake realized that she was taking this chance to clear up some doubts she had in her techniques and practices but Lake didn’t expose her and continued to answer as they walked.

It was only once they reached the entrance to the male dorm did Kate stop asking questions.

"I guess this is where we part ways." Lake spoke as he smiled casually.

Resting the crates on the ground, Kate nodded to Lake before walking off, "See you later."

As he watched Kate leave, Lake only shook his head as he picked up the remaining crates and walked towards his room.

After entering his room and setting up a barrier to stop sound, smell and mana from traveling outside the room, Lake finally got to work.

Slowly unpacking the boxes, he took out a few sets of materials and several tools.

There were various flowers and plants, all emitting a faint trace of mana while a large amount of high ranking blood was poured into a bathtub until it almost filled the entire tub. Instantly, a strong smell of iron filled the room.

Lake ignored the horrendous smell and continued on with his work, using the lab equipment to crush several herbs into a paste before mixing them together in a glass tube over a flame.

While the mixture was being heated, Lake was also fusing some of his mana into the mix along with a few drops of his blood.

After around thirty minutes, the paste had melted and mixed together with his blood and mana.

Once Lake saw that the mix was completed, he walked into the bathroom before looking at the large tub of blood.

Using the materials from the crate, Lake had already set up a small mana gathering formation in the bathroom which gathered the mana from the surroundings before fusing it into the high ranking beast blood.

Taking off his clothes, he stepped into the blood filled bathtub as his whole body slowly sank until the blood reached his neck.

If the inspectors were here to see this scene, they would have been shocked at how close their original guess was as Lake’s current actions were strikingly similar to those of a fanatical cultist!

Holding the mixture of various herbs, mana and his own blood, Lake took a deep breath before emptying the entire vial into his mouth!

After swallowing the mixture, Lake instantly felt his entire body begin to heat up as his blood started to flow rapidly through his arteries. His muscles tensed up and froze solid, almost like a statue, as the mana in his body circulated fiercely through his flow path.

As Lake’s body continued to heat up, the blood in the tub slowly started to turn to a boil as white steam was emitted from Lake’s body. Soon, the entire tub was heated up as the beast’s blood quickly began to bubble!

Lake was lucky that his physique had long since surpassed the limits of man thanks to the Steel Body Martial Arts, otherwise, even Martial Warrior’s would have been boiled alive! This was because all the mana in Lake’s body had been fused into the boiling beast’s blood in the tub, leaving his body devoid of mana and completely defenseless!

Once the beast’s blood had started to evaporate, Lake knew that it was time as he urged the blood that had been fused with his mana to flow towards his body.

Under the influence of his mana, the boiling beast’s blood slowly turned into a red steam before flowing into Lake’s bloodstream through the pores of his skin.

Instantly, Lake felt a strong rejection force well up from inside his body. The beast blood was far too incompatible with his body causing him to feel like his body was being torn apart.

Feeling this pain, Lake gritted his teeth as he urged the mana infused beast blood to move toward his heart.

Suddenly, Lake felt his heart throb in immense pain but he pressed on as he slowly controlled the beast’s blood to start drawing an intricate formation on his heart...

Soon, minutes turned into hours as the blood in the tub was slowly turned into a red mist before fusing with Lake’s body.

Lake’s skin had already turned extremely pale and his originally steel like body had become incomparably skinny. His bones were almost visible and the thin veins around his body looked like little red snakes that wrapped around him.

Once all the blood in the tub had disappeared, Lake’s naked body was the only thing left in the tub looking extremely weak and sickly like it could fall over at the slightest touch.

At that moment, Lake’s heart that had slowed down to almost a stop during the process of inscribing the formation, slowly began to beat once more.

Badump!

Badump!

With each passing second, the speed at which his heart continued to beat started to slowly pick up until it was back to normal.

Once the heartbeat had returned to normal, the mana that was still floating in the surrounding had begun to slowly flow towards Lake’s body on its own.

The mana went towards his chest before smoothly fusing into his body, entering the intricate layer of formations that covered his heart.

With each beat of his heart, the speed at which mana flowed from the surroundings towards him continued to increase at a rapid pace until he was absorbing all the mana in his dorm room!

In just a few seconds, all the mana in Lake’s room had been completely absorbed! Only when he felt that his heart still wanted to greedily absorb the mana outside of his dorm room did Lake finally restrained himself as the mana gathering formation on his heart was turned off.

Immediately after, the mana that had been absorbed had started to flow through his veins and infused itself with his blood.

Once the mana infused blood returned to his heart, another layer of formations were activated as the mana was slowly purified as all the unwanted particles were slowly filtered out of his blood.

Only when Lake felt this did he open his eyes.

From this point on, he had successfully formed his Mana Heart!
