Chapter 93: Chapter 93: Lizardmen
As Lake continued his lecture, everyone had calmed down and were paying close attention to each of his words.
Although the concept Lake was talking about could be described as extremely complex and unheard of, he broke it down to such a simple level that even the students that weren’t too well versed in Mana Theory were able to understand it.
Among them was Kate who was able to pick up on some insights into her own methods.
Although Lake had already completed the remodeling of her technique, she still had to spend a lot of time learning how to control and manipulate her astral mana.
Lake’s current lecture could be described as filling in the blanks in her knowledge so she greatly appreciated it and listened closely to each word.
However, little did Kate know, it was her awakening that inspired Lake to create the method of purifying mana outside the body.
When Lake had seen the mana mixing and combining with the astral energy outside her body, he had gained the inspiration that allowed him to create this ingenious technique in combination with his knowledge of mana.
As the lesson continued, Sylph was also listening curiously. Although she didn’t know much about this world and its functions, she was still extremely curious about everything about it.
With mana being one of the core components of this world, she found herself entranced by its mysterious and wonderful effects.
When she saw Lake manipulating the mana like a children’s toy in his palm, Sylph couldn’t help but recall the legends of the human race in her own world.
They were also able to manipulate mana like Lake and could even use it to create several wonderful artifacts and magical phenomenon.
As Sylph thought of this, she couldn’t help but feel a sense of pity.
"If only they had survived the war... maybe I could have interacted with the human race earlier..."
Shaking her head, Sylph continued to listen closely to Lake’s lecture.
Bradford was also listening silently on the side, however, unlike Kate who was listening to learn or Sylph who was listening out of curiosity, his mind was stuck on Lake.
"Just who is he..." He silently thought.
...
The second lesson finished without any problems.
Lake’s acts of exposing his strength during the first lesson and the mana demonstration he performed at the start of the second lesson had earned him enough respect for the students to listen without making a fuss.
Although, whether it was respect for his skills and knowledge, or respect that stemmed from his overwhelming strength, that was something only the students themselves knew.
With the success of the first and second lessons, Lake’s following lectures went by smoothly.
Everyone in the academy had some level of intelligence no matter how dumb they may act, this, matched with Lake’s simple lecturing style and his focus on the topic of mana, meant that it didn’t take long for them to put Lake’s lectures into practice.
On the third day, a few students had already begun the initial process of modifying their technique to fit their own requirements.
Strangely, Instructor Yorick, Lake’s Mana Theory instructor still hadn’t returned to the class even after three days had passed.
This had left a lot of students confused but thanks to Lake’s lecture, they didn’t feel like they were missing out on anything as the content of Lake’s lecture and practical assessment could be described as an advanced level of Mana Theory taught in a much simpler format.
However, on the fourth day, Lake had to cut his lessons short due to a message he received from Landur, calling him to assemble for their next hunt.
...
Walking into the third year block, Lake returned to the fancy lounge once more as he easily spotted Landur and Jayce. Next to them was a woman with short blonde hair who seemed to be bickering with Landur.
"Laziness is the downfall of a martial artist you know, Landur."
"Sigh... I wonder what pissed you off today, Hana, for you to jump on my case like this."
"Nothing in particular. I just felt like it." Hana spoke as she blinked innocently.
"You know Hana, there’s a whole world of people you could go trouble, so why do you always choose me to be your victim?"
"I don’t know," Hana spoke with a pondering expression as she purposefully furrowed her brows to make it look like she was in deep thought, "Maybe it had something to do with what a certain someone told me a while ago. Whenever I vent my feelings on you, I find myself just feeling better no matter how bad my day was."
Hearing this, it seemed like Landur decided to give up as he sat back in the chair.
It was at this point that Lake walked forward, catching the attention of everyone.
"Good day." Lake greeted politely.
"You must be the first year I’ve been hearing about!" When Hana saw Lake, her previous bad mood seemed to vanish as if her previous bad mood was an illusion.
Seeing this, Landur’s eye twitched.
"You can take a seat, we’re just waiting on the team leader who’ll be here in a bit."
Landur told Lake who nodded in response as he sat down.
Hana stared at Lake with big, curious eyes.
She was someone who visited the school forum every now and then which was why she knew all about Lake’s "mana lesson."
When she had first heard about it she had laughed and called the first years idiots for believing in Lake so easily but after watching the recordings of one of his lessons, Hana didn’t think so anymore.
The topic Lake spoke about was something that even they, as third years, haven’t heard about before and Hana was actually able to benefit greatly from Lake’s lecture. This was especially true thanks to her already being a Martial Warrior.
With the ability to release mana from her body, she was able to apply a lot of the concepts from Lake’s lecture in a unique way that the first years couldn’t compare to and even integrate them into her own martial arts.
"I say, you’re not some hundred and something year old Martial Lord that came to the academy after regaining your youth to experience life or something like that, right?"
Hearing Hana’s question, Lake was momentarily speechless.
Landur and Jayce also watched over with their mouths slightly agape.
Seeing this, Hana pouted as she folded her arms, "What? Did I say something strange? I mean, look at him, he doesn’t look a day over 18 and he could talk about advanced topics and never before seen concepts on Mana Theory? One of the most mysterious and hardest to understand concepts in the entire world?"
Shaking his head, Lake only smiled but didn’t say anything.
Sometimes it was just better to ignore the problem than try to solve it.
At that moment, a familiar figure walked into the lounge before walking towards Lake and the rest.
As he saw the shimmering silver hair, Lake immediately knew that the leader of this group had arrived.
Gwen Silverveil, known as the Princess of the Silverveil family and the second granddaughter of one of the strongest martial artists on the continent.
"I see that everyone has arrived." Gwen spoke as she took a casual glance at Lake.
"Hey hey, Gwen! Come on, I know you’ll agree with me, look at him. Don’t you also think he is some old master pretending to be a student?" Hana spoke excitedly as she pointed at Lake.
The corner of Gwen’s mouth twitched slightly as she decided to just ignore Hana completely.
"This time we received the task to clear up the collapse of an unknown rift located in a portion of wilderness near Moonbright City."
Hearing this, Landur asked casually as he laid back on the sofa, "Any info on the monsters?"
"Yes. Thanks to the information of a few Martial Apprentice scouts, we managed to find out information on the opponent this time."
"There are two species we will have to deal with. One is code named Lizardman and as its name suggests, it’s a big 8 feet tall bipedal lizard. It seems the creature has the ability to change the pigmentation in its scale to camouflage into its environment. They were also spotted to be carrying around basic weaponry in the form of spears. Unfortunately, that was all the scouts were able to figure out as it was too risky to engage in direct combat to find out more."
"However, judging from the way they moved through the terrain and fought with the wildlife of the zone, they were able to estimate them to be a low level Rank Two beast in terms of fitness which was why we were chosen this time to deal with it."
Hearing this, everyone nodded simply besides Lake who was just listening quietly.
"Any Ideas on their numbers?" Lake asked at this point.
"We’re not sure on their exact numbers but they seem to be traveling in a group. The scouts didn’t dare to get too close so they only counted from a distance and judging from the tracks they left behind, it was estimated that there were at least 50+."
When everyone heard this, they couldn’t help but groan, but Lake subconsciously covered his mouth as a subtle smile appeared on it.
