Chapter 91: Joining a hunting group

Chapter 91: Chapter 91: Joining a hunting group

Lake sat down as he watched the two third years wolf down the two plates of food he had bought for them.

Since Lake also had to save points for his graduation, he only bought two of the cheapest meal plans to feed the two, but that didn’t stop them from eating it like it was the most delicious meal in the world.

After around ten minutes, the two had finished the two plates of food and laid back on the soft sofa as a satisfied smile appeared on their faces.

Seeing that they were done eating, Lake took the chance to finally explain why he came looking for them.

Due to the regulations and wishing to ensure the safety of the group of students, the academy made it mandatory for all outside hunting to be done in groups.

Since Lake wasn’t a third year he didn’t exactly have a group he could just join so he came to the third year block looking to find a group which was willing to take him in.

Coincidentally, Lake came across Landur and Jayce who were in the middle of an intense "negotiation."

Making use of the opportunity that had presented itself, Lake took the chance to get on their good sides with two free meals and ask if he could get into their groups.

Landur and Jayce were decently intelligent and were able to quickly figure out Lake’s situation after listening to him, especially when he mentioned that it was the Principal that put him up to it.

Landur and Jayce stared at Lake with a look of pity and understanding.

They had both started hunting outside the academy in their third year as a result of their successful advancement to the Martial Warrior Realm and knew exactly how difficult hunting was, especially when their employers were the group of heartless instructors.

Lake was only in his first year and already had to go through such an experience. Thinking of this, they both silently did a prayer of silence for Lake in their hearts.

After a few seconds, Landur finally spoke.

"Look junior, although we are grateful for the meal, there are a lot of things to consider when it comes to working in a team. You’re only a first year and most, if not all of the other third years won’t be interested in letting you into their group."

"After all, a new teammate with unknown strength is usually the greatest reliability on the battlefield. Usually the academy would send you through a few team exercises through your first two years which would prepare you for actual team hunting but you’ve only been here for less than a month."

"Your chances aren’t optimistic."

Hearing Landur’s words, Jayce nodded his head in agreement as he picked the meat stuck between his teeth.

Lake nodded his head before shaking it again.

Pulling up his wristwatch, Lake sent the video of yesterday’s event to Landur and Jayce.

"That video should verify my strength even if just a little bit. I really hope you can accept me into your group and I promise I won’t cause any trouble."

Interested in what Lake sent them, both of them opened the video link, curious to see what Lake had sent them.

Although the person in front of him was a first year student, since the principal had allowed him to hunt with them, there must be a reason for it, right?

As Landur and Jayce watched the video, they were first stunned by the sheer number disadvantage between the two sides but as the video continued, their shock only continued to deepen.

When Lake’s loud and distinct roar sounded out from the wristband, both of them could almost sense the terrifying aura that caused the group of students in the video to tremble in fear.

As the video came to an end, the way the two looked at Lake had slightly changed.

"Junior... you certainly are... wild."

Hearing Landur’s comment, Lake only coughed twice and pretended to ignore it.

"Haha! Wild is good, he fully demonstrated how a man should be in the video. Wild and primal, let all tremble before their might!"

Jayce shouted out as he laughed. He had already started replaying the video, watching the scene of Lake’s roar shocking everyone into fear. It seems that he really resonated with this scene in particular.

Landur cleared his throat as he said, "Alright junior. With this video you can certainly be qualified to hunt with us third years, however, the matter of teamwork still stands."

"I can try talking to the rest of our team and see if they’re willing to let you join, but I really can’t guarantee anything."

"That’s completely fine. Please contact me and tell me the results as soon as possible."

Lake continued to talk to the two seniors after getting Landur’s promise to try and communicate with his team, making sure to buy them both a drink before he left.

Keeping good relationships with two Martial Warriors was always a good thing, especially when it was as cheap as less than 5 points.

After Lake left, the two men took the chance to savor the taste of their drinks as Landur opened their team group chat and briefly explained the situation along with sending a link to the video.

The first to reply was Hana, the female archer of their team.

"What’s the deal? Why did you guys suddenly decide to scout a new team member? And why the hell is it a first year? Did starvation finally send you insane?"

Landur casually read Hana’s message as he looked at the time that passed between the two messages. Seeing that less than ten seconds had passed, he knew that she didn’t even bother to watch the video.

As if he was used to this, Landur calmly replied, "Watch the video first."

After Landur sent his message, a long time had passed before Hana replied.

"No comment. Leave the decision up to Gwen."

Seeing that Hana had agreed, Landur relaxed as he waited for Gwen to reply.

He knew that it would take a while for her to reply to messages on the group chat as she is usually training around now.

Thinking about this, Landur once again understood the reason for Gwen’s strength.

Hardworking people are rewarded but Landur knew that he could never be as hardworking as others.

Most people had a drive that pushed them to work as hard as they did and it wasn’t any different for Landur.

The main difference between Landur and the rest, was that his drive was especially weak as he lived off spite and spite alone.

A long time ago a certain muscle head decided to go against him in everything causing him to constantly want to surpass that muscle head in everything.

Now, so long as the muscle head didn’t surpass him, he was content with his current strength.

As Landur was thinking of this, Gwen replied to his message a lot sooner than he expected.

Opening the group chat, he was slightly surprised to see her response.

"No problem. Let him join."

...

Soon the rest of the day flew by.

After Lake finished speaking with Landur and Jayce, he received a message an hour later saying that he could join their group .

After getting into a hunting group, Lake no longer paid attention to it. When the time came, they would message him a few days before they had to leave to give Lake time to prepare.

Once all his classes finished, Lake headed to the training ground where he met up with Sylph and the rest.

Bradford and Allen had already checked out the online recording last night and knew that Lake was the special training instructor for the event.

When Allen originally found out he was shocked and instantly sent a copy of the video of the fight to Bradford.

After they both watched the fight, they had a new understanding of the strength of their mysterious classmate.

Sylph still seemed oblivious to the fact that Lake was the training instructor but no one bothered to explain it to her.

This time, Iris was by her side so she was a lot more restrained than she was when she was with Lake yesterday.

As Lake saw Iris’ looking at him with that cold judgemental expression she insisted on wearing around him, as if he had committed a capital crime, he didn’t know how to respond, so he decided to simply ignore the frigid fairy.

Allen tried to talk to Iris and Sylph to lighten the slightly tense mood but it didn’t go well as Iris ignored him.

This only left the group even more awkward until Kate showed up which gave Allen the chance to finally escape from this torturous experience as he began to catch up to this old friend of his.

As Allen and Kate started chatting, more and more people arrived at the training grounds until it quickly filled up.

Giving a general count, Lake spotted more than ninety students!

It seems like this time he would be able to "befriend" a decent amount of allies as a smile slowly appeared on his face.
