Chapter 78: Chapter 78: I think I need to head back to my room and rethink my life.
Standing outside the training room, Alec looked around with curiosity.
Surrounding him were three other Martial Grandmaster level instructors that had rushed here after noticing the mana disturbance.
Behind them stood another group of Martial Masters and a few students who hadn’t left the training hall yet.
Among this group of students, some of them were from his homeroom class. Alec remembered them to be the group of rowdy boys that sat in the corner of his class.
Calling them over, Alec asked them if they knew who was inside the private room and to his surprise they actually answered.
When he heard that it was Lake and Kate, two of his top students, Alec suddenly had an amazing premonition.
"Hmm? It seems that you might have gotten quite lucky with this batch of students, Alec."
One of the Martial Grandmasters suddenly spoke up, catching Alec by surprise. Hearing his words, Alec smiled sheepishly.
"Nonsense, Senior must be joking. It wasn’t by luck that I got these students but their own hard work that got them this far."
"Haha, no need to be so modest. You’re already one of the youngest Martial Grandmasters on the continent and now you seem to have acquired an incredible batch of students. I must say, this old lady is really envious of you."
The only female Grandmaster among them spoke up as well, causing Alec to scratch his cheek awkwardly. He could deal with his students naturally, but when it comes to these seniors who were almost two decades older than him, he really didn’t know how to respond.
"Thank you for the compliment, Instructor Ellora, but this might also be an opportunity for you. I heard you were looking for an apprentice recently to pass on your awakened sword arts. One of the students inside is ranked one among the first years while the other is ranked three. Maybe you might take an interest in one of them?"
Hearing Alec’s words, Ellora only smiled.
The group of Grandmasters seemed to calm down but the group of students next to them had already started whispering.
Specifically, among them, a particular group of boys were currently gritting their teeth as they whispered to each other.
"What’s the deal? Weren’t we supposed to jump him when he walked out? Why did the instructors gather here?"
"I don’t know, but it seems like they’re pretty excited about something. From what I heard just now, I think something good must have happened to Kate or Lake."
"Damn it! Why is it always him! Not only did he go into the private training room with Kate alone, now even the instructors have gathered outside to greet him!"
"Sigh, I say, are we still going to jump him today?"
"I guess we really can’t. Hell man, I was even prepared to get my ass beaten today and now this happened. All my motivation has been drained."
"I agree, we all knew our chances of beating him were low to begin with, we were just going to jump him for the sake of jumping him. Now that this happened, the rage that was driving me to fight him despite the odds has suddenly been drenched."
"I feel like a deflated balloon right now."
"Agreed."
"I second that agreement."
"Do you guys wanna get some pizza from the cafeteria now that we’re not jumping him any more?"
"I don’t mind."
...
While the boys were deciding what to do with the rest of their night, the door to the training room suddenly opened as a pale Lake and an exhausted Kate walked out.
After their initial excitement faded, the two of them found themselves extremely exhausted and had to spend some time before they could finally move around normally.
Looking at the crowd of people that had gathered outside the training room, Lake had already expected this and walked forward normally.
"Goodnight, Teach. I wonder what you’re all doing out here." Lake spoke with a casual smile on his face as he felt a wave of mana spread out from the four Grandmasters, enveloping both Kate and him.
He knew they were checking to see which one of us had advanced.
After their mana swept across each of them, all four Grandmasters had a surprised look on their face.
They first sensed that Lake’s mana had been severely exhausted but they understood that this was a common occurrence when training so they didn’t pay much attention to it.
What left them surprised was that when they tried to observe Kate’s mana they realized that her mana was resisting theirs to such a degree that they found it difficult to actually check her internal situation!
After retracting his mana, Alec finally paid attention to what Lake said and felt his eyelids twitch upon understanding them.
"Brat, what do you think? The two of you caused such a widespread mana disturbance that all the nearby Master and Grandmasters level practitioners were alerted. I should be the one asking you what you’re doing."
"Haha, There is no need to be so harsh on them Alec. But what you said does make sense. I wonder if you two students could explain what happened inside the private training room just now?"
One of the Martial Grandmasters spoke out. He had a large scar on the left side of his cheek and had a head full of receding gray hair.
Lake remembered the instructor to be Professor Mercury, the greatsword and defensive fighting class instructor.
"Reporting to the teachers, during our training just now, classmate Kate had gained some enlightenment and managed to awaken."
Hearing Lake’s words, the teachers who were listening were first stunned internally before excitement quickly washed over them. This was especially true for Alec who was looking at his two students like they were golden treasures.
Lake’s voice was neither loud nor too soft, so when he spoke, everyone in the training hall who was paying attention was able to hear him clearly, causing them to descend into feverish discussion.
"Awakening! Such a good thing happened to one of my students!" Alec shouted internally, his mood over the moon.
Although he and the other Grandmasters had their suspicions after thinking about the mana disturbance, they were all shocked when they heard it confirmed personally from the students in front of them.
After all, awakening was an extremely rare phenomenon and even in the academy, they would be lucky to get even one student with an awakened ability every five years.
"I wonder if you could by chance showcase your awakened ability to us?"
At this point, Instructor Ellora asked with a hint of excitement in her eyes.
Hearing this, Kate nodded slowly before walking forward.
Raising her hand, she gently moved the astral mana within her body. This time, she didn’t muster as much energy, only releasing a small stream of it from her finger that extended into a long, thin line of astral mana.
When everyone saw the line of starry energy extend from her fingers, they were all shocked.
"Mana leaves the body! You’ve advanced to Martial Warrior?!"
This time, even ignoring the fact that Kate was awakened, the group of Instructors were truly shocked.
How old was Kate? She was barely eighteen and could already summon mana outside of her body. Doesn’t that mean that she was already an eighteen year old Martial Warrior? What kind of concept was this?
"You... You’ve advanced to Martial Warrior?"
Hearing this question, everyone who was listening was extremely curious about her answer. Depending on how she answered, a lot of things could change in the academy and possibly impact the future of the continent.
After all, if she was already a Martial Warrior at such a young age, her future achievements would definitely be extraordinary and could shape the future of the continent if she continued to advance at this pace.
"Mhm, my energy reserves are around the level of a Martial Apprentice, but my mana has definitely surpassed the threshold and could be released naturally from my body."
When everyone heard this silence descended for a brief moment as everyone took some time to accept the sudden reality.
Kate, seeing this, removed the flow of astral mana to her finger tips, causing the stream of energy to slowly dissipate into a mist of starry particles.
When the instructors saw this, they then remembered that not only had this student advanced to the Martial Warrior realm at a young age, she had also awakened!
"That starry energy, is it...?"
"Yes, during my awakening my body went through a sudden change and the mana in my body underwent a mutation as a result of it."
Hearing this, Instructor Ellora looked on in excitement as if she suddenly found a treasure she’s been trying to find for a long time.
"I wonder if you’re free right now? This old lady would like to have a few words with you?"
Kate smiled awkwardly after hearing her request.
"I’m sorry instructor, but I’m simply too tired after going through the awakening process. I wish to head back to the dorm to rest first."
Hearing this, Ellora raised her hand to her head.
"Oops, my bad. I was so lost in my excitement that I forgot that you must be exhausted. Please head back to rest first, I will look for you in the near future to continue this conversation."
"Yes, I’ll await your invitation then."
While the two were continuing their conversation, Lake was attempting to slip away but Alec noticed him and called him out.
"Where do you think you’re going?"
"Aha, I say Teach, look at Kate’s face and then look at my pale face. If you have eyes you could clearly see that I’m more exhausted. If she can leave now and return to rest, why can’t I?"
"Rude Brat!" Alec shouted out at Lake’s after hearing the hidden mockery in his words but waved his hand to send him away.
He could clearly see that Lake was definitely more exhausted than Kate judging from his almost empty mana reserves and pale face.
However, that left him questioning what kind of training did the two of them do to leave him like that and Kate awakened?
"It seems like I have a lot of work to do when I return tonight." Alec suddenly thought when he realized the report he would have to write up for the principal after tonight’s incident.
As Lake and Kate walked away, the group of boys who hadn’t left yet looked on in a daze.
"I say bros, what’s the situation now?"
"I don’t know."
"Are we still getting pizza?"
Hearing this question, everyone shrank into silence until one bro spoke out.
"I think I need to head back to my room and rethink my life."
"Same."
"Agreed."
"Let’s go."
