My Roleplay System -
Chapter 57: Bloom
Chapter 57: Chapter 57: Bloom
Lake watched as the Skylark screamed in pain through the monitor.
A few minutes ago he finished the repairs according to the system’s instructions and was led to this white lab room.
Once he was inside, the system initiated a program resulting in an energy wave being sent out from the Golden White Tree.
Every creature in the Garden that came into contact with the wave was currently experiencing a skull splitting headache caused by the system.
Lake had a guess as to what was happening based on the small hints he had received from the system.
"What was that wave?" Lake tried asking the system to confirm his suspicions. To his surprise, it seemed that the system was more willing to answer his questions now that he had finished the repairs.
"That was the control wave, it’s used to activate the control system planted inside the genes of the Garden’s creatures."
Hearing the system’s reply, Lake knew he had guessed correctly.
The system mentioned that this was a genetic modification facility used for the purpose of creating controllable monsters.
Lake guessed that the repairs he had completed were actually related to the control system of the facility.
"So all the creatures in the Garden are currently under your control?"
"That is correct."
"What do you plan on doing with them?"
"The Garden was originally designed to create controllable creatures for the Architects to control and use for battle. Under these circumstances, the orders instructed to the system were to continue self operation of the facility until the Architects return. However, the system has lost contact with the main server and the Garden’s facility has not been in use for well over 400 years. Judging from the data within the system’s database, there is a high chance that the Architects have already perished."
"Perished? Why would you assume that they perished?" Lake asked, his curiosity once again piqued.
"From the information that is contained within the Garden’s database, the Architects were in a state of war when the Garden was created. The system is unaware of the details regarding the war as the information was stored in the main server."
When Lake heard the system’s answer, he was slightly intrigued by this advanced race and its history but since the system didn’t possess further information, he decided to ask about something else instead.
"Since the Architects are most likely dead, what are you going to do now?"
"The system was programmed to work completely autonomously even in the absence of the Architects. In this case, I will continue to operate the garden until either The Garden is destroyed or the Architects return with further instructions."
Lake went into thought at the system’s reply. If the Garden were to continue operations as per normal, Lake felt that it would be able to stay running for a long time to come. However, the situation was slightly complicated.
"Do you know of the current situation and location of the Garden?"
"The system inquires as to what you are trying to imply."
When Lake heard the system’s reply, he knew that the system was currently unaware of the situation and asked, "Can you run a scan of the surroundings of the Garden. Just choose a direction and go as far as possible in it. You should come across a barrier of some form."
"Request accepted. Beginning scan."
When Lake saw the message, he saw a loading bar appear on the monitor before him that was quickly filling up.
After a minute or so, the system finished the scan as a complex diagram appeared on the screen that Lake couldn’t comprehend.
"Scan completed. The system has detected a space barrier has surrounded the Garden."
"Barrier determined to be the cause of the system’s isolation from the main server."
Beginning analysis of the barrier for further information..."
"Warning. The system has detected the space barrier surrounding the Garden to be extremely unstable with several weak points being found dotted throughout the barrier. Estimated time until the barrier collapses... 18 hours and 53 minutes."
When Lake heard the system’s estimation, he was slightly surprised. As someone who aspired to be a hunter, he knew a good bit about rifts.
Rifts were usually divided into two phases, the Manifestation Phase and the Destruction Phase.
A rift in the Manifestation Phase are rifts that haven’t experienced a rift break yet and the creatures inside are still trapped. This is the stage that most rifts were found in when hunters discover them. This phase was also the one that the Garden was currently in. However, from what Lake had seen while exploring the inside, he estimated that the Garden was most likely in the later stages of the Manifestation Phase and would soon experience a rift break, entering the Destruction Phase.
As the name implies, the Destruction Phase is when a rift collapses from the inside with various portals appearing inside the rift that creatures could escape through and enter into the real world. Once the portals have appeared, the space inside the rift begins to twist and distort until the rift itself implodes into oblivion.
There are generally two ways that a rift could enter the Destruction Phase. The first method is for the rift to naturally enter the Destruction Phase over a long period of time. The second method is to speed up the progression of the Manifestation Phase by killing creatures inside the rift. The more creatures you kill, the more unstable the rift becomes leading to various cracks to appear in the space barrier around the rift, forcing the rift to enter the Destruction Phase ahead of time.
When this effect of killing creatures to speed up the destruction of a rift was found, various researchers and scientists spent months trying to find the reason for this phenomenon and eventually came up with a suitable hypothesis.
By examining the barrier that surrounded a rift, they found out that the space inside a rift is actually maintained by a strong barrier made out of mana. That was also the reason why the inside of a rift was so full of mana.
However, the creatures inside a rift were also full of mana themselves and when they die, the mana stored inside them is released all at once. This mana crashes against the barrier surrounding the rift all at once, leading to small shockwaves being sent throughout the barrier, making it unstable. This effect is mostly minor when only a few creatures die. However, if a large amount of creatures were to be slaughtered inside a rift, or a creature containing a strong amount of mana were to die, the speed at which the rift collapses would be greatly sped up.
Thanks to the genocides he single handedly committed in the less than three days he had been here, the collapse of the rift had been greatly accelerated. That was why even though Lake wanted to stay inside the rift longer, he knew that he couldn’t.
All the rift needed to shatter was one more big push...
At the thought of this, Lake turned his gaze back to the monitor showing the battlefield outside.
The Empress, Wolf King and Skylark were all Rank Three creatures, the death of even one of them would be enough to collapse the rift.
"Now that you know the destruction of the Garden is imminent, what do you plan to do?"
"Since destruction is already predetermined, the system will continue operation until the last moment."
When Lake heard the system’s reply, he smiled as an idea appeared in his mind
"Don’t you want to continue operating?"
Almost as though it was thinking, the system paused before answering Lake’s question, "...What do you propose the system do?"
The system was quick to catch on and could guess that the lifeform before it had a plan by his tone of voice.
"In this large facility there should be a portable device capable of holding your code and data in it, isn’t that so? Can you transfer your data to a portable device? Preferably something that I can carry around easily. If you can do this, I can take you out of this rift and into a stable environment where you can continue operating."
When the system heard Lake’s plan, it paused for a moment, most likely searching the facility for a device similar to what Lake described. After a few seconds, the system finally replied.
"What do you want in return for this?"
Lake smiled at the system’s question. It seems that the system knew he wouldn’t do this favor for free.
"Since your previous master and creator are most likely dead, I’ll become your new master and you will follow my orders in the future. This way you can continue to operate and also fulfill your original purpose of creating controllable creatures."
This was Lake’s plan. Ever since he heard that the system could control monsters, the thought of taking the system for himself had appeared.
If he could get the system under his control, in the future, he would have an army of monsters to do his bidding. Not to mention if he were to pair that army of monsters with his King’s Aura, Lake believed he would be an unstoppable force capable of rivaling even the top guilds by himself.
This time the system took a lot longer to process Lake’s suggestion. Since the system wasn’t a living creature, Lake assumed that it was currently weighing the pros and cons of this plan. Although there really wasn’t much to weigh.
Either the system faces total annihilation at the collapse of the rift, or it comes under his control as its new master.
After a few more moments, it seemed like the system finally made its choice.
"The system can transfer the files and related data to a portable device and can accept you as its new master. However, the system isn’t capable of transferring the ability to control other creatures as that is related to the Garden and the Facility itself. Without a suitable device to emit the control wave and implant the control gene into new creatures, it is impossible for the system to control other creatures."
"That’s fine. You can just transfer the related knowledge to create the relevant equipment into the portable device as well. In the future, we can recreate the necessary equipment."
"Very well. The system greets its new master."
Lake smiled at the system’s reply but he immediately thought of another problem. In the future it would be annoying to differentiate between his Roleplay System and the Garden’s System as they both referred to themselves as the system.
At the thought of this, Lake decided to deal with this issue in advance and give the system a name so that it would be easier to differentiate between them.
"Since you’re now under my control, I’ll give you a new name instead of having to refer to you as the system. In the future you will be called... Bloom."
