Chapter 199: Chapter 199: Fairy Race Elders (1)
The entire training ground was dead silent.
Students who had been practicing earlier were now frozen in place, their gazes darting between Lake and Sylph. Some were whispering in hushed tones, but despite their attempts to keep quiet, their words reached Lake’s ears with painful clarity.
"Did she just say she loves him?"
"So the rumors were true."
"There’s no way, right?"
"But she said it so openly!"
"This is big news!"
"Does this mean Lake is going to be the first human to marry into a foreign race?"
Lake closed his eyes and started massaging his temple.
His head had already started to hurt.
Opening his eyes again, he found himself staring at Sylph, who remained completely unbothered by the chaos she had just unleashed.
She gazed up at him with big, round eyes, the very picture of innocence.
But to Lake, she looked no different from a natural disaster.
Just as he was about to speak, a gust of wind rushed past him.
Swoosh!
A blur of blue shot toward them, snatching Sylph from his side.
"S-Sylph!"
A familiar, trembling voice echoed through the field.
Iris.
Her long blue hair was a mess, her wings trembling from exertion. It was clear she had rushed here the moment she found out Sylph had disappeared.
Still gripping Sylph’s arms, Iris looked her up and down, her blue eyes frantic with worry.
"That demon didn’t do anything to you, did he?!" she demanded, glancing over at Lake as though he were some kind of monster.
Lake, whose brain was already running low on patience, felt his eyelid twitch.
’How did I become the bad guy?’
Sylph, still looking slightly dazed from Iris’ aggressive rescue attempt, tilted her head.
"What do you mean, Iris?" she asked. "I just told Lake about the elders."
A brief silence.
Lake narrowed his eyes.
’Just told me about the elders?’
That... wasn’t what she said earlier.
Iris’ wings stiffened hearing Sylph mentioned the elders. She recalled the earlier meeting with the elders as a feeling of dread began to settle in.
Her face twisted in an expression of disbelief.
"The elders...? Sylph, did you—"
Sylph nodded cheerfully before Iris could finish. "Mm! I told Lake I loved him!"
In an instant, the crowd of students that had been paying close attention to the trio exploded into discussion once more.
Some of the students didn’t hear clearly the first time, so they were still skeptical of the rumors, but after hearing Sylph confirm it a second time, there was no longer any room for doubt.
While all the students were busy messaging in their group chats and sending the recorded audio to their friends, all the blood drained from Iris’ face.
Her grip on Sylph tightened.
"You—you—" she stammered, shaking the tiny fairy slightly, "do you even understand what you just said?!"
Sylph blinked at her.
"Of course! I was just explaining why the elders wanted to meet with him."
Lake could tell that Iris was screaming on the inside, being made the victim of Sylph’s brain numbing responses.
’So it works on fairies too...’
As Lake watched the disaster unfold like a spectator at his own execution, he suddenly sensed something through his sixth sense.
He casually turned his head toward the direction of the academy.
Just as Iris tightened her grip on Sylph, ready to drag her away, a deep, authoritative voice rang out from above.
"So. You’re the human our princess has taken an interest in."
A shadow loomed overhead.
Descending with measured grace, a handsome fairy with long silver hair landed smoothly onto the training grounds. His regal robes billowing slightly, looking like a celestial that had descended from the heavens.
Behind him, two more figures followed suit. Each bore their own unique aesthetic, their presence striking even among the naturally breathtaking fairy race. With the three of them combined, it was as if a procession of celestial beings had arrived.
And yet, despite their beauty, Lake’s continued to gaze at the three fairies calmly.
’They also don’t have any fates...’
Gazing above their head, Lake saw that the group of fairies had no strands of fate above their head.
Iris’ complexion paled the moment the group of fairies descended as Sylph broke free from her grasp.
Fluttering forward, Sylph landed gently beside the white-haired fairy, her usual cheer replaced with something more restrained.
"Elder Seraphis," she greeted, her wings trembling slightly, like a child caught sneaking misbehaving.
Seraphis, the white haired elder, softened his gaze as he chuckled. Resting a hand atop Sylph’s head, he said, "No need to be so tense, child. We are merely here to speak with the man who has captured your attention."
At that moment, Lake finally rose from the boulder he had been seated on all this time. As he did, he felt three piercing gazes land on him.
"Junior greets the elders of the Fairy race," Lake said, addressing the three elders. He had seen their appearances in the news before and recognized them instantly.
The white-haired fairy was Elder Seraphis, said to be the oldest and wisest among their kind. Despite his apparent age, his presence was akin to that of an immortal—his features youthful yet dignified.
Flanking him were two other elders. One was a stunning red-haired woman with an almost dangerous allure, and the other a sleek-looking middle-aged man with light blue hair. The red-haired elder was Elder Summer, while the blue-haired man was Elder Rain.
"Hm, so you must be Lake," Summer mused, stepping forward. Her piercing gaze trailed over him from head to toe, a slow smile creeping onto her lips.
"That is indeed the case," Lake replied evenly.
"Not bad... for a human," Summer remarked, folding her arms beneath her chest.
’Is she referring to my appearance or something else?’ Lake wondered.
"How crude, Summer," Elder Rain interjected, stepping forward with a disapproving glance in her direction. "We are here to speak with him, not flirt."
Summer’s expression shifted to one of feigned boredom. "How dull."
"Enough, you two," Elder Seraphis finally spoke, his brows furrowed. "Don’t embarrass yourselves in front of the young ones."
"Hm~" Summer hummed in response, while Rain went silent at Seraphis’s words.
"...Good." Seeing they had settled, Seraphis finally turned back to Lake, his expression returning to one of calm composure. "Lake, correct? We have much to discuss with you, but this isn’t an appropriate place. Why don’t we move somewhere more comfortable?"
Hearing his suggestion, everyone silently agreed.
With Seraphis leading the way, the group fell in line behind him and followed.

he private office was spacious yet suffocating.
Lake sat up in his chair, hands resting loosely on his lap as he observed the room.
The fairies had taken their seats with practiced ease, yet the tension in the air was unmistakable. The elders sat opposite, while Sylph, Iris, and Lake faced them.
Rain sat with perfect posture, his fingers interlocked in front of him. In contrast, Summer lounged in her chair, a smirk playing on her lips. Seraphis remained unreadable, his steady gaze betraying nothing.
Iris, seated near Sylph, kept her wings tucked tightly against her back, her hands gripping the fabric of her dress. Meanwhile, Sylph sat quietly, her usual carefree demeanor subdued.
No one spoke immediately. It was as if they were all waiting for something.
Then, just as the tension in the room reached its peak, the door to the office abruptly swung open. In an instant, all eyes turned toward the entrance—except for Lake, who remained still.
Bramble strolled in, breaking the silence with an easygoing tone.
"Apologies for being late. I had something holding me up."
"Hm, it’s fine," Seraphis sighed, noting Bramble’s carefree attitude.
"Hmph, hurry up and sit, brat," Rain muttered, his voice laced with clear dissatisfaction.
Bramble walked over and took a seat beside Lake, offering him a slight nod. Lake returned the gesture but paused as he noticed something.
’Hm? Bramble bears a remarkable resemblance to Elder Rain. Coincidence?’
Thinking deeper, he realized Iris shared a similar resemblance—though not as strongly as Bramble.
’Are they related?’
"Ahem." Seraphis cleared his throat, his calm gaze sweeping over the room. "Now that everyone’s here, we can begin our discussion."
As he finished speaking, his gaze landed on Lake.
"Mr. Egoven, is it? Would you mind answering a few of our questions?" Seraphis asked, his tone polite yet relaxed—possessing a natural ease that would soothe almost anyone.
Lake gave a small nod. "Sure. I’ll try to answer them as best I can."
"Great. Then first, I’d like to ask—what is your relationship with Sylph?"
The atmosphere shifted subtly. Rain and Summer remained still, but Lake could sense their attention sharpening.
Beside him, Iris stiffened, her grip on her dress tightening as she shot him an open glare. Sylph, on the other hand, merely looked curious.
"We are friends," Lake answered simply.
Iris exhaled softly, a quiet sigh of relief escaping her lips, while Sylph tilted her head, a thoughtful expression crossing her face.
"You..." Rain’s voice was low as he frowned. He looked as if he were about to say more, but before he could, Seraphis raised a hand.
Rain hesitated, his words caught in his throat. After a brief moment, he swallowed them down and leaned back in his chair, his displeasure evident.
Lake observed the grumpy elder with mild curiosity, wondering what exactly had upset him.
A soft giggle broke the silence. Summer watched Lake with an amused smile, though her eyes remained cold. "Little boy, our princess has openly declared her love, yet you claim the two of you are only friends?"
Lake blinked.
"That..." He was momentarily speechless.
’Is that why he’s upset?’
"No need to dwell on their words, Lake," Seraphis interjected smoothly. "We’re just asking questions, and I’d appreciate your honesty."
Lake nodded slowly, still processing Summer’s remark. He didn’t notice the subtle glint that flashed in Seraphis’ eyes.
"I’ll move on to the next question, then," Seraphis continued. "You’ve stated that the two of you are friends, but how do you feel about Sylph?"
