Chapter 198: Chapter 198: Roleplay Missions

[Roleplay Missions are specially designed missions for each role. By completing a Roleplay Mission, the host can earn various role-related rewards, RP points, and even power-ups.]

"Hm?" Listening to the system description, Lake’s interest was piqued. "So there are missions for roles. Are there any available missions now?"

[Responding to host: You can check the updated world map to search for related missions.]

"The world map?" Lake said aloud as he opened the updated world map.

Instantly, a 3D holographic map appeared around him. Using his mind, he could zoom in and out, navigate across it, and even view the layout of buildings by zooming in far enough. It was essentially a perfect replica of the current world.

The map was currently zoomed in on his position in the academy’s back area. With a thought, he zoomed out to view the entire continent.

Immediately, he noticed several differences on the map compared to before the update. While examining the changes, he asked the system to elaborate on the new functions.

[The World Map update introduces two new features: Roleplay Mission Icons and Anomaly Review. Roleplay Mission Icons indicate the location of missions, allowing the host to view their details directly from the map. Anomaly Review enables the host to check details of system-detected anomalies.]

Listening to the explanation, Lake quickly figured out how to use the updated map.

Focusing on the map, he zoomed into a major city where a dagger icon was visible. After a moment, a new system window appeared, detailing the mission’s contents.

[Quest Type: Assassination

Quest Name: Criminal Head

Quest Description: A dangerous Guild of Martial Artists has been frequently committing crimes under the lead of their Guild Leader, Markus Rivervale.

Quest Objective: Infiltrate the guild without being detected and assassinate Markus Rivervale to send a message to the rest of the guild.

Quest Reward Upon Completion: 1000 RP Points, 1 Random piece of Assassin’s gear.]

Reading the details, Lake raised an eyebrow. The mission was straightforward, making it easy for him to grasp the objective.

Zooming out again, he located another icon with a different symbol—a wooden staff. When he focused on it, the mission details appeared.

[Quest Type: Research

Quest Name: Helping Hand

Quest Description: A group of ManaTech scientists is researching volatile mana reactions in an underground facility. Judging by their current research direction, they are likely to cause a massive subterranean explosion.

Quest Objective: Provide assistance to the group of scientists to steer their research back on track and prevent the explosion.

Quest Reward Upon Completion: 100 RP Points, +0.1 Mana Density.]

Reading the description, Lake was able to roughly figure out the details of these missions and how they worked. Zooming out, he saw many icons pop up over the entire continent, most of which were made up of dagger and staff icons, representing Master Assassin and Mage Missions respectively.

Understanding how the new Roleplay Missions worked, Lake searched for a mission related to the Master of Fate role. He scoured the entire continent but came up empty-handed.

’Hm, looks like there aren’t any available at the moment...’

Moving on from the Roleplay Missions, Lake shifted his focus to the final feature of the system update.

Zeroing in on the swirling icon that represented rifts, a new window materialized before him.

[Anomaly Grade: C

Anomaly Description: A small pocket dimension. Estimated difficulty: Low-Rank Martial Master.

Clear Reward: A Low-Tier Role.]

"Huh?" Lake’s eyes widened as he read the system window.

’A Low-Tier Role as a Clear Reward?’

An idea struck him, and Lake quickly began checking the other rifts. Before long, his theory was confirmed.

Low-Tier Role, Low-Tier Role, Mid-Tier Role, Low-Tier Role...

As he scanned the list of rift rewards, a pattern became clear—all the rift clears rewarded a role!

Falling into thought, Lake began to consider the broader implications of the system update.

Originally, he could only acquire new roles through system quests, which appeared randomly and infrequently at best. Now, however, with the introduction of the Primary and Secondary role settings, he could hunt rifts without limitation, amassing a variety of roles. This opened the path to exponential growth, allowing him to become far stronger faster than he had initially planned.

A small smile crept across his lips. Exiting the world map, he opened his status screen. It had been a while since his last check, and after his display at the Blackheart Guild’s training facility, curiosity about his current strength gnawed at him.

As Lake scanned the status screen, he noted that his physical stats had surpassed 15, with his strength reaching an impressive 20.

With his physique in such a state, Lake estimated that he could rival a High-Rank Martial Warrior using his sheer physical prowess alone.

"Hmm? What’s this?"

Lake’s attention turned to his Mana stats. He noticed that the Mana Strength and Mana Capacity fields had disappeared, replaced by a new stat: Mana Density.

Intrigued, he mentally called out to the system for an explanation.

[Responding to the host, during the integration process, the host’s body was modified to optimize its capabilities, creating the best possible physique to fully utilize its abilities. As a result, Mana Strength and Mana Capacity have been merged into a single stat: Mana Density. Each point in Mana Density is equivalent to 10 points in both Mana Strength and Mana Capacity.]

Understanding the explanation, Lake nodded in satisfaction and closed the status window.

Finally content with his checkup, he released the sound barrier spell he had erected around himself, ready to rise from his seated position.

Flutter!

The rapid sound of fluttering wings echoed in his ears. Without even looking, Lake already knew who was responsible.

Sighing, he sank back into his seat, closing his eyes in resignation. Barely two seconds passed before a small figure barreled into his chest, gripping the front of his uniform tightly with trembling hands.

"L-Lake! I tried to... but then they...! And now they’re saying they want to—!"

A torrent of panicked, incoherent murmurs poured out, making Lake reopen his eyes slowly.

The sight of a petite fairy clinging to him, her grassy green hair slightly disheveled, greeted him. Her wings fluttered erratically as though mirroring her anxious state.

Gently, he placed a hand on her head, patting her soft hair in a steady rhythm. "Calm down, Sylph," he said softly. "Take a deep breath. One thing at a time, alright?"

Sylph froze for a moment before shakily nodding. Following his instructions, she took a deep breath, her breathing gradually steadying. Her previously frantic expression softened, though traces of worry still lingered.

Lake waited patiently, his calm gaze fixed on her. He still couldn’t read her fate, leaving him in the dark about whatever trouble had brought her here.

"So, what’s going on this time?" he asked, his tone gentle yet firm. Over time, he had grown more adept at handling her chaotic nature, his patience tempered like steel.

Sylph hesitated, biting her lip. "The... the Clan Elders are here..." she finally muttered, her voice trembling.

Lake raised an eyebrow. "The Clan Elders? And why is that a problem?"

Sylph fidgeted, avoiding his gaze. "They... they started asking about the Academy. You know, how things are going here. At first, it was fine, but then they started asking about me. I answered honestly, but then they got upset, and now—now they want to meet you!"

Her words came out in a frantic rush, and by the time she finished, she was heaving as though she had just run a marathon.

Lake processed her explanation, his calm exterior betraying no reaction—at first. But the longer he thought about it, the more his composure cracked. Cold sweat began to bead on his forehead.

"S-Sylph," he asked cautiously, his voice tightening, "what exactly did you tell the Clan Elders?"

Sylph tilted her head, her expression genuinely puzzled. "The truth."

Lake clenched his jaw. "The truth about what?"

"Their question," she replied as though it were obvious. "They asked what I thought of you, and I answered honestly."

His stomach churned. "What... what did you say?"

"I told them the truth." She beamed suddenly, her previous worry replaced with an earnest smile. "That I love you!"

The surroundings fell deathly silent. Sylph’s voice was loud enough that even the other students nearby heard it, causing them all to pause their practice.

Lake’s mind grounded to a halt. Any hope he had left crumbled into dust. A sense of dread crept over him as he imagined the implications of her "honesty."

He swallowed hard, forcing himself to maintain his composure—or at least what was left of it.

"Sylph," he said, his voice strained, "do you realize what you’ve done?"

Sylph blinked up at him, her eyes wide and innocent. "What do you mean? Should I have lied?"

For the first time in a long while, Lake was utterly speechless.
