Chapter 155: Chapter 155: What It Means To Be A Hunter! (1)
After Lake settled down his team, he led them alongside the wolves to clear out the remaining creatures of the grassland for the next few hours.
He had already checked up on the other Rank Two creatures that resided in the grassland and decided against fighting them.
The Electric Viper didn’t seem like it was willing to leave the bay anytime soon, and the Fire Mane Lion wasn’t something Lake was confident in taking on just yet.
As for the other creatures in the field, anything below Rank Two wasn’t worth mentioning to Lake and the others. Lake had already reached the level where he could kill most Rank One creatures with just one attack, and the wolves could easily overpower any Rank One or lower creature through teamwork and sheer numbers.
During these battle, the main person in command wasn’t actually Lake, but Kate.
Since her mana was exhausted and still recovering, she took up the role of commander alongside Sylph, leading the wolves into battle from atop the Alpha Wolf.
Sylph’s main responsibility was to translate Kate’s commands to the Alpha Wolf, an ability that surprised Lake when he learned of it. Although he knew that Sylph had the Blessing of Language that allowed her to comprehend any language in the world, he didn’t expect it to extend even to animals.
To satisfy his curiosity, he asked her about it and she told him that it was more of a unique ability of the fairies and not the effects of the blessing. Lake thought that it made more sense this way as he didn’t believe every creature spoke a language since most animals relied on gestures to convey their intent.
However, Lake had to admit, whether it be in works of fiction or an entirely different world, fairies always seem to have a connection to nature.
Amidst the strategic coordination led by Kate and Sylph, Lake himself was busy fighting on the frontline like an unstoppable killing machine. Running around, grabbing the pieces of fates constantly disconnecting from the fallen monsters.
With his already high stamina and Mana Heart’s recovery function, Lake never grew tired, and the refreshing feeling he felt every time his RP increased kept him full of energy and bloodthirst.
Iris and Bramble were also fighting alongside him, but when they compared themselves to Lake, they realized they hadn’t even contributed to ten percent of the battles combined!
Lake, who was more monster than the creatures he hunted, and Kate, who led the wolves, could be described as the true hard carries of this team, and it made Iris feel utterly depressed. However, the hunt must go on, so no matter how depressed she got, she continued to swing her fist around, crushing and exploding any monsters that dared to come in contact with it.
With Lake, Iris, and Bramble acting as the main force, and Kate commanding the wolves to surround the enemy to prevent their escape, an indiscriminate slaughter had begun in the grasslands of Myriad Bay.

Once night descended, the team returned to the Stronghold, covered in blood and accompanied by a thick metallic smell that permeated through the air. Bits and pieces of various monsters stuck to their clothes and hair but none of them seemed to mind.
Romero and the random hunter Lake had found, Ria, were completely numb at this point.
Both of them felt like their worldview had crumbled to dust and debris as they stared at the five ’monsters’ in front of them.
Students, no older than eighteen years old, had run through and entire ecosystem teeming with hundreds, if not thousands of monsters and killed everything that was unfortunate enough to come across them. This was a feat that even professionals hunters would find struggle to accomplish within a day, much less a few hours!
That’s right, from start to finish, less than 6 hours had passed yet these kids had slaughtered close to eight hundred monsters in that short span of time!
Romero’s reaction was a little bit better than the random hunter next to him who had her mouth open throughout the entire trip, but even he felt that this was a little ridiculous.
’If these two are already like that, what the hell are the others like?’
Romero swallowed his saliva at this thought.
When he returned to the guardian’s resting area, he was going to have a long conversation with his fellow guardians. If he found out that they were even half as ridiculous as his one, he was seriously going to consider if he had wasted his youth.
As for the other hunters passing by, they were looking at the five students with a mix of astonishment, fear and greed.
Many hunters were working in the field, and the groups rampage wasn’t exactly easy to miss. They had seen the brutal slaughtering of the monsters living in the grassland and were shivering when they found out that it was a group of students that committed the act.
Thankfully, even though these students had killed most of the prey within the grassland, it didn’t affect the profits of the hunters working there, and in fact, even raised it!
That’s right, to these shameless hunters, the students who callously slaughtered hundreds of creatures, leaving their lifeless corpses scattered in their wake, were akin to a treasure trove—one that was constantly spitting out treasure! The hunters eagerly scurried about, collecting the bodies strewn across the battlefield to claim as their own once the students left.
A normal team of Apprentice level hunters would usually have a haul of around twenty to forty monsters at the end of a day of relentless hunting. Yet today, most people were able to add an additional thirty corpses to the pile, essentially giving them a day’s worth of income for the price of nothing!
Of course, conflicts often arose as fellow hunters competed for loot, but this group of students were seen as a blessing to the weaker hunters who struggled to even hunt ten in day.

(First Person POV:)
I walked through the Stronghold’s wide gate covered in blood.
Honestly, if it wasn’t for the fact that I’ve gotten used to it after so long, I doubt I could’ve withstood the putrid smell coming off our bodies.
My nose, which was enhanced along with all of my other senses, was burning as tears naturally welled up in my eyes.
I could tell that Iris and Bramble were also going through a similar experience to me but were holding back and pretending like they don’t care.
Kate and Sylph walked a little distance away from the three of us, probably trying to protect their own noses. Since the two of them were contributing from the top of the Alpha Wolf and didn’t actually engage in combat, they were covered in significantly less blood when compared to the rest of us.
Right now, all of us wanted to return to our rooms and clean off the blood from our bodies; so we continued to walk through the Stronghold, ignoring the terrified gazes of the passing hunters.
As we reached the Sacred Class Inn, we all rushed into our respective rooms ready to clean ourselves off.
Bramble and I shared a room so we had to take turns using the shower. Thankfully, Bramble allowed me to go first with out asking so I managed to clean myself off fairly fast.
As I walked out of the shower, I couldn’t help but take a deep breath. Although the bloody scent was still there, it was significantly less of a problem compared to before.
"I must say, despite being so skinny, you seem to possess an incredible amount of strength, Sir Lake."
I heard Bramble marveled as he looked at my body. He had a slightly surprised expression on his face, one that I understood.
In the process of forming my Mana Heart I had lost a lot of my previous muscle mass and still hadn’t recovered since then. Although I retained my previous strength, even becoming stronger, I had become significantly smaller in exchange.
"The shower is free." I said as Bramble politely nodded his head and walked past me.
"Well then, if you’ll excuse me."
As Bramble walked into the bathroom, I picked up my wrist watch before putting it on.
Opening the interface, I saw that Conner had sent me a message a few minutes ago.
[Conner: Everyone’s gathered outside. We’re just waiting on you.]
’Just on time.’
As I thought to myself, I quickly put on one of my spare uniforms before walking out the room.
I would’ve liked to bring Kate along for the next part, but she needed to spend the night recovering her mana so I decided to exclude her from tonight’s ’activity’.
It didn’t take long for me to reach outside the Stronghold.
Night had just officially descended as the sun completely disappeared from the sky, replaced by an alluring crescent moon.
Everyone from the first years had gathered on the side of the main gate, seemingly chatting as they awaited my arrival.
To my surprise, I even saw the figure of Bradford and Allen among the crowd. They weren’t apart of my training program so I didn’t expect them to come and join the fun.
A few guardians were lined up on the side as they looked a little nervous at the massive crowd of students that had gathered together during the night.
It was at that moment a few students seemed to notice my presence as they signaled the others to quiet down.
Thankfully, after my ’friendly’ game of Hunter and Prey, most students were a lot more obedient and respectful towards me, so it didn’t take long for the entire crowd to quiet down.
As they all rushed to stand in position, I took the chance to glance through some of their fates and inspect their bodies.
Most of them had light scratch marks and some minor wounds covering their bodies while others looked a little more mature.
It seemed that after putting the skills they learned into practice, they had come to understand how valuable it was to know how to escape.
After watching through some of their fates, I stopped as a small grin appeared on my face. Looking at my classmates who had finally settled down, I finally spoke, "I guess that all of you must’ve had one hell of a day out in the Field, didn’t you?"
Nobody spoke up at my simple question, probably because they didn’t want to admit it.
"How was it to live life as ’prey’ for the first time? Did you managed to fight back against the predators or were you forced to run away?"
Again, silence filled the atmosphere. They didn’t want to admit that my teaching was effective; their pride simply won’t allow it.
"Alright, if nobody is going to answer, so be it," as I spoke, my grin grew wider as a wicked expression appeared on my face, "It just means that you’re all ready for the next part of the training."
Everyone flinched when they heard my words. To make sure my words had every impact that I wanted on them, I deployed my King’s Aura down to the area.
"After today, you’ve all tasted life as prey. Everything wanted a piece of you—the world itself turned hostile. No matter how hard you fought, escape was your only option."
"But why is that? Why is it, that despite your advantage in numbers, your powerful skills and all your life’s training; that you are forced to desperately struggle against even a weaker predator?"
"I’ll tell you why, it’s because that weaker predator knows what it takes to be a hunter while you’ve only learned what it means to live as prey!"
"So on this wonderful night, under the beautiful moonlight, I will take everyone of you, and show you what it means to be a hunter!"
