Chapter 154: Chapter 154: Dark Gemstone

"Woof!"

Before I knew it, the Alpha Wolf had already flipped over and sat down with noble posture, as if the previous scene was just a fabric of my imagination.

Knowing that it’s really not worth my time, I turned my head to Sylph, who was staring at the Alpha Wolf with a confused expression.

Bramble and Iris were behind her on either side, which really started to make me wonder what was the deal between the three.

Iris seems to put a heavy emphasis on Sylph’s safety at all times, while Bramble, although less obvious, seems to be mediating conflict for Sylph and his sister’s sake.

"Wolfy..?" Sylph tilted her head as she stared at the ’majestic’ Alpha Wolf.

"Alright, that’s enough, Sylph. Don’t you see that the poor pup is embarrassed enough?" I said while I folded my arms, using a finger to point to the Alpha Wolf.

While I did that, I also took the chance to observe the Alpha Wolf’s reaction.

I’ve only noticed it now, but it seems that the Alpha Wolf had already been cured of its poison. Sylph’s healing skill was more potent than I thought and must’ve cured the poison while she was healing its injuries during the battle.

However, from the way the Alpha Wolf was behaving, it didn’t seem to have noticed this fact; otherwise, why would it still stick around him and the others?

"Really? Are you embarrassed, Wolfy? Sorry, I didn’t realize!" Sylph quickly apologized to the Alpha Wolf as I watched its tail curl up and claws dig into the ground.

I couldn’t empathize with what the Alpha Wolf was going through right now, but I could roughly guess it.

With a sigh, I turned my gaze to Iris and Bramble, "So, what are you all doing out here?"

Iris frowned in response to my question and turned to look away while Bramble smiled and replied back, "Sylph wanted to play with the wolves, so we brought her out under the escort of Sir. Romero."

I followed the direction of Bramble’s finger and eventually came across the lone figure of Romero standing by a tree.

He was also looking at me, so I nodded my head to him as a greeting. I saw his gaze sweep through me and Kate and the Guardian following behind us.

Only then did he turn back to me before nodding his head.

"Well, since everyone’s here, I guess we can move on to our next agenda on time."

"Hm? Are we still going to do more today? I hope you know I still haven’t had time to recover my mana after the fight earlier." Kate frowned as she looked at me.

"It’s fine, you won’t have to do much anyway for the next part."

Kate raised an eyebrow at my reply but patiently waited for me to continue.

"Since we’ve hunted the Bison herd, our team has already gathered enough points to pass the exam. So from one point of view, our primary objective has been achieved."

"All that remains now is to hunt at our own pace and wait until the time runs out, but again, since we’ve gathered enough points, we can also just choose to sit back and relax within the Stronghold walls."

"...But that isn’t what we’re going to do, is it?" Kate spoke from behind me as a smile appeared on my face.

"Nope! Since we’ve gained all this spare time, we’re going to go on a quest to drive the Myriad Bay to the brink of extinction!"

"...."

Silence descended as everyone stared blankly at me. Even Romero and the tag-along Guardian seemed to be staring at me like I’m crazy.

"...Huh? Sorry, I think I’m still unfamiliar with the human language. Because I could’ve sworn you just said you want to drive this place to the brink of extinction." Iris was the first to speak up as she shook her head.

"Nope! You’ve heard me correct."

"...."

"...Sylph, I think it would be wise to leave this team immediately. That bastard has completely lost his mind." Iris turned to Sylph with a worried expression on her face.

"Come on Iris, how could you say that about me? I’ll have you know, I’m perfectly sane-"

"Bullsh*t!" Iris cut me off before I could finish my sentence, "I may not have been in your human realm for long, but I at least know that this place you call a Field isn’t something that can just be cleared out!"

"Oh, if that’s what you thought I said, then there really must be something wrong with your understanding of our language."

Iris nodded her head repeatedly, "Yes, yes, I thought I heard wrong-"

"I said ’brink of extinction’, not complete annihilation. Please do not mix those two up in the future. Even for me, it would be impossible to drive an entire field to extinction."

"...."

Silence descended once more as I felt someone grab onto my arm.

Turning my head, I saw Kate staring at me with a gentle smile. It was the first time I ever saw her smile like that, so I was taken a little off guard.

"Bramble." Kate called out.

In a flash, Bramble appeared in front of Kate.

"Yes, my Lady?"

"Grab his next arm."

Whoosh!

I turned my head to the right as I stared at Bramble who had latched onto my arm, "What happened to bros before hoes?"

"What interesting words you speak, Sir Lake. Why would you compare something as noble as brotherhood to a meager gardening tool?"

"Iris." Kate called out next.

"Yes." I saw Iris crack her knuckles as she rotated her head, looking like a gangster ready to beat someone up.

"Knock some sense into him."

"With pleasure!"

Swoosh!

Iris kicked off the ground, flying towards me with tremendous force, her fist primed to crash into my face.

"Hahaha! Since when did you three get so close?" I smiled as I saw how well coordinated the three of them had grown.

Was it because I made them work together during the Bison hunt? They’ve certainly developed the basics of teamwork in that short time.

"However, if you think this would be enough to stop me..." As I spoke, Iris had already arrived in front of me.

Without hesitation, I kicked my feet upward, intercepting her punch with the sole of my feet.

Boom!

A shockwave was sent out from the impact as a dust cloud was kicked up.

"...You’re sorely mistaken."

Whoosh!

Before they could even react, I pulled my arms to my center, using my right arm to grab onto Kate who stood on my left, and my left hand to grab onto Bramble on my right.

"Hup!"

With a light shout, I pried their grip off each of my arms, before flinging Kate over and Bramble underneath my still raised leg, launching them both to the side.

Bang!

As Kate and Bramble were flung to the side, I violently brought down my leg, dragging Iris’ hand down with it before grappling her by the collar and judo throwing her onto the ground.

Boom!

"Urgh-!" Iris groaned in pain as the other two crashed into the ground on either side.

I dusted my hands off as I spoke, "Alright, now that all objections have been dealt with, Sylph, heal them back up and let’s begin the hunt, shall we?"

I looked over to Sylph who was staring at me with wide eyes and mouth agape. It seems she still hadn’t caught up to what was happening around her.

With a sigh, I shook my head before walking over to wake her up from her stupor.

In another part of the mystical Field, along the shore of the bay, many hunters could be seen priming their fishing gear, ready to begin their ’hunt’.

The Myriad Bay was a popular spot for mid and low-tier hunters due to its wide array of creatures, and the bay was the hunt spot of the mid-tier ones.

Many aquatic creatures exist within the crystal-clear waters. Even many Rank Two creatures could be spotted living deep within the waters with an uncountable number of Rank One and Low Rank creatures swimming about.

This was the place that many hunters come to when they wished to have a relaxed hunt. As long as they don’t leave the shore, most creatures couldn’t even get to them.

With just a specially made fishing rod in hand, they cast their hook and enjoy the beach breeze as they wait for their prey to take the bait.

Currently, there were a few groups of hunters lining the shore.

Some were throwing spears with a rope attached to it into the water, before dragging the prey back to land before finishing it off. Others used bows or fishing rods, but there was a common point among them all: none of them entered the water.

To one side of the bay, a lone man was standing along the shore on top of a large boulder stretching into the water.

His long brown coat and messy hair fluttered in the sea breeze as many sea creatures jumped out of the water, trying to take a bite out of him.

However, when those creatures reached a certain height, they would abruptly slow down before falling back into the water, flapping their tail as they swam away. No matter how fast or how large these fish were, once they reached that certain height, they would turn around before falling right back into the water as if some unknown force was preventing them from getting any closer to the man.

The man was humming a song as he held a mysterious dark gemstone in his hand.

"Fighting since time immemorial~"

"Our children sing his song~"

"Let the world know of his presence, let them know his reign~"

"The time has come, let chaos come!"

As the man finished his last phrase, he gently brought the gem to his lips, before propelling it high into the sky.

The dark gemstone glowed as the sun cast its brilliant rays down unto it. If one were to look closely, they could see various colorful energies swirling deep within the gem. The energies combined in a jumbled mess, evoking a feeling of wonder and amazement.

As the gem fell from the sky, it landed directly in the middle of the bay with a plop, slowly sinking to the bottom.

By the time the gem landed in the water, the man on the rock had already disappeared, only the pleasant ocean breeze blowing past the shore.
