My Refrigerator Turned Into A Dungeon -
Chapter 371
Giant Ant
"Here, take this, Masaru!"
A giant black ant charging head-on is thrown backward with a tomoe nage, passing it to Masaru. The flung giant ant is then shattered by Masaru's sharp, pile-driver-like kick, scattering into smoke as it vanishes.
(This guy… his kicks are seriously insane.)
Even I’d have my ribs broken if I took one of those head-on—just thinking about it sends a chill down my spine.
"Masaru-chan, nice one!"
"Way to go, Masaru!"
Yeah, on the 6th floor, giant black ants are decent opponents, so I’ve been teaching Masaru about teamwork.
If we were fighting pack hunters like wolves, this wouldn’t be necessary, but Masaru’s a herbivorous kangaroo. His fighting style is kickboxing, like kangaroos battling for mating rights.
So, I have to teach him the concept of group combat. After defeating the giant black ant, it drops sharp mandibles and a magic stone. The mandibles could be used as-is, like knives or stakes.
"Well, they’re not that strong, honestly."
"True, they’re about the same as those giant grasshoppers, ain’t they?"
Nina-san, who just finished off another giant black ant, voices her thoughts as she walks over.
"But this really feels like an anthill of a floor. The ceiling’s low in places, so watch your step, Shizu."
"I ain’t like Manchi, so I’ll be fine. Still gotta be careful, though."
……
Moving ahead without much trouble, we descend to the 7th floor, where even larger giant ants await.
"Hmm… Now this size feels more like a true Giant Ant."
They’ve grown from 1-2 meters to well over 2 meters—a massive upgrade.
Their strength and durability must’ve shot up too. Since I let the other two handle the 6th floor, I’ll step forward here to test the Giant Ants’ capabilities.
"Alright, let’s see how tough they’ve gotten. Take this—Ninja Art: [Five-Stage Mucous Reversal]!!"
Allow me to explain. The [Five-Stage Mucous Reversal] involves grabbing an enemy with a mucus rope and, y’know, slamming them left and right like bam-bam. Then, using centrifugal force, you finish with a one-arm shoulder throw—wham—spiking them headfirst into the ground.
Enemies hit by this can’t break free from the mucus, leaving them helpless as they’re smashed into walls and floors. Their bones and exoskeletons get pulverized, usually resulting in death. A terrifying technique.
(Note: It’s called a "ninja art," but it’s not actually one.)
"One! Two! …Huh, it croaked before the third hit."
After slamming the Giant Ant into the left and right walls, I went for another left-wall impact, but it vanished before connecting.
"Whoa~, still crazy strong as ever!"
"Ehh~, I wanna try that too~!"
"Hahaha. But this move needs space to work right? You’d need at least 5 meters of width."
Yeah, any less and the enemy hits the opposite wall before building enough momentum, halving the damage.
"Oh, then leave the next one to me! Here goes… [Iron Fist Elbow Strike]!!"
<figcaptionattachment__caption"">Next, as another Giant Ant appears from the depths of the passage, Serai charges forward, abandoning her bone hammer, and drives an [Iron Fist Elbow Strike] into its torso.
A dull thud echoes as the Giant Ant’s abdomen caves in, spewing fluids from its mouth before dying.
"Yep, nice form."
Before the strike, her footwork and hand motion deflect the ant’s mandibles upward, leaving its torso wide open. The [Iron Fist Elbow Strike] combines a stomp-powered elbow strike with a palm-heel push from the opposite hand at impact—like a piledriver.
A regular stomp-elbow is strong enough, but this technique also leverages the [Iron Fist] skill, making it Serai-san’s signature move.
Unlike the [Five-Stage Mucous Reversal], this doesn’t need wide spaces, making it perfect for tight battles like this.
"Still, seems acid doesn’t work on these ants either, huh?"
Nina-san, who’d been binding another Giant Ant with mucus while dousing it in acid, shares her findings.
"Hmm, ants use formic acid, so it’s no surprise they resist it."
"Then we shouldn’t waste acid on them. No point burning through magic for nothing."
"Right. Blunt force via mucus seems reliable, so let’s stick with that for now."
"Sounds good. Oh, more are swarming in."
Heh, the 7th floor really rolls out the welcome wagon.
