Chapter 960: 326. Ambush and Rescue - Additional update for "starsfalling" [2/15]_2
"Oh, is it your faith that’s warning you?"
Miss Biqi’s voice became noticeably "excited," with the sound of metal clashing coming from the carriage. She asked with interest:
"You’ve never told me which divine spirit you believe in since you were young, but I’ve seen you pray. Your way is different from the Old Education and the practices of the Winter Wolf Religion..."
"Miss! This isn’t something you need to worry about. I haven’t told you only to protect you. My god does not wish for His Majesty to be known by too many people here, and I’ve told you since I was young that I am just the eyes of the divine spirit, bringing to Him more of the human affairs He wishes to see."
The tone of the Knight of Liwen became noticeably more serious.
She stopped chatting with her mistress and spurred her horse forward to discuss the choice of roads after entering Transylvania with the leader of the Firefox Mercenaries, who were positioned at the front of the caravan.
Meanwhile, on a mountain range within the borders of Transylvania, ahead of this convoy:
A vast enchantment of darkness overseen by Phemys shrouded the surrounding cliffs, preventing any outside tracking and perception of the force hidden here.
The number of people present was not small.
In terms of NPCs, in addition to the young lady and her few servants, there was also Kudler, the Baron of Hunting, Doris, the boss of the Blood Rat Gang, and the Grey Vulture Knight Valande, along with two squads of Winged Cavalry that had rushed here from the forests outside Westerburg.
On the player side, in addition to the team led by Stick Brother and Wumeioge, who personally triggered this storyline, there was also the Soldier Strike Heroes, who had become Knights under Kudler, the People’s Guard, a group of thieving and assassin players led by Frostfang’s Claw from the Blood Rat Gang.
Lastly, there was Loyal Brother, currently the only apprentice of Count Shuren.
This guy was a manufacturing player whose character level was only at 7 and hadn’t yet escaped the category of newbie, yet he was the most eager to try things out among everyone present.
The reason for this was twofold!
Firstly, Loyal Brother viewed the upcoming rescue operation as a "weapon test" ground.
He carried a special psychic package at his waist, filled with a variety of weapons that he and Count Shuren had created after a "brainstorming" session in recent days.
Secondly, as the predetermined manager of the "Transia National First Arms Factory," Loyal Brother was acutely aware that the cargo transported by the merchant convoy directly affected whether his industry could open on time to make money.
Both sentimentally and logically, he naturally couldn’t allow a bunch of Wolf Poison mongrels to ruin the first step of his grand ambitions in Transylvania!
"Here they come! They’re nearing the border, there are so many of them, carrying big and small packages just like a fleeing crowd! It’s quite a sight, like ants moving house."
Yan Song, hiding inside the darkness enchantment and manipulating reconnaissance magic, suddenly shouted, making the players who were busy polishing their weapons for battle immediately perk up, while the NPCs also stopped their quiet conversations.
The Winged Cavalry mounted their horses, and the Vampires spread their wings.
They didn’t know when the ambush of the Wolf Poison Clan would begin, but those bastards definitely couldn’t guess that a force intent on "reaping the spoils" was already lying in wait here.
Old Qu picked up his hunting gun and began to load it with bullets, only to be stopped outright by Loyal Brother.
"Come on, brothers, throw away those burning sticks in your hands. Let’s fight with the ’new-style weapons’ I’ve brought tonight, treating it as a live fire test to see just how powerful the ’Another World weapons’ I’ve made are."
Loyal Brother threw a large box from his psychic package onto the ground, kicked it open to reveal neatly arranged rifles inside.
"Holy shit! 98Ks!" Giant Shark Burton exclaimed, only to receive a super disdainful roll of the eyes from Stick Brother.
"Stop calling everything a 98K; it just exposes your... ahem, shortcomings, in this area."
The veteran grumbled.
He bent down, picked up an antique-looking rifle from the box, and swung it skillfully. With a click, a shiny bayonet snapped out, locking onto the underside of the barrel.
"A bare-bones version of the SKS..."
Stick Brother performed a few shoulder-firing motions and then ejected a cartridge to examine it. Turning to look at the proud Loyal Brother with a bizarre expression, he said:
"Why use full-power cartridges? And don’t tell me these are hammered out with pliers?"
"Of course not, I only provided the blueprints. These are all the work of my little Tutor. My hands are not that skilled," Loyal Brother laughed heartily.
He also picked up a rifle, holding it in his hands and spoke quietly:
"The engineers here are all monsters; they have very special forging methods that can replicate the design on the blueprints with an incredibly fine degree of machining. But that method can only produce handmade collector’s items. Even with Count Shuren’s production speed, it can’t keep up with the large-scale equipping of weapons.
So, if we really go into mass production, we definitely won’t be able to produce such ’high-quality’ goods, but I’ve already finalized several models of firearms that can be quickly produced in the arms factory to equip Sir Morphy’s soldiers.
As for why I use full-power cartridges...
What kind of absurd question is that?
You surely don’t think that the little ’peanuts’ we use over there could blow open the skulls of Vampires or Jackal and Wolf people, do you? Full-power cartridges in this chaotic fantasy world are what true civilization is about! The concern of too much power isn’t an issue at all. If the standard cartridge tables were complete, I would’ve planned on making Dum-Dum rounds. Those would be considered too extreme in our world, but here, they’re just right."
