Chapter 509: Hooray, the era of the Twelve Strong Blood Vultures has arrived_1
"This task, it wasn’t issued by me..."
In the Blood Eagle Corridor, Morphy listens to the autumn rain falling on the ground, using the strong perception capabilities of a vampire.
The sound of the rain and the clouds blocking the sunlight provided a comforting feeling, but the heart of the vampire lord wasn’t calm at the moment.
That’s because he had just discovered a task that hadn’t been issued by him while retrieving the connection between the Core Bead and the lower-grade beads.
It was the profession-related "hidden task" that Meow Brother took on, but it wasn’t issued by Morphy or any other NPC that wields a Calculating Pearl.
"Avalon..."
Morphy strokes the Core Bead.
A strong unease wells up in his heart at this moment. The little players think this is a game and that all tasks are produced by the system, but the truth isn’t like that! The so-called "task system" is merely a blindfold that Morphy developed for them using the peculiar properties of the Calculating Pearl.
Theoretically, this is a privilege belonging only to Morphy’s faction, as the encryption of the administrator system prevents other models of the Calculating Pearl from deciphering this special form of communication. But now, Meow Brother has received a task from "outside the system."
Morphy doesn’t believe that someone is playing tricks. His first reaction is that the Avalon god has really appeared, because this isn’t the first time that Avalon has "manifested" here!
Previously, when he was hunting deranged vampires entrapped in subspace pollution with the old knight, he completed a "communication" with the god Avalon using godly scrolls that the old knight had copied.
Although that was just the other party unilaterally examining him, and the cryptic words that the old knight said before he died, like a prediction. Regarding the use of the Calculating Pearl to issue tasks, it wasn’t strange. If even a 432-year-old elder sister vampire can learn to use the Calculating Pearl, then to the mysterious Star Giants, it is just a matter that can be mastered in one glance.
"My god watches over you, my god blesses you, my god walks with you, spirits will walk with you upon the sea of stars, Alpha, keep moving forward."
Morphy’s vampire memory is very good.
He repeated the last admonition of the old knight in his heart.
Now it seems, the words spoken by the old knight weren’t just babble, Avalon seems to really be paying attention to him, the vampire... isn’t it? The god of nature, did you suddenly have a strange interest in shit?
I’m clearly an Immortal Sinner!
Morphy vehemently complains.
Then he thought of the unlucky vampire girl, Mary, who had been rescued from Bataxin City. She said she had heard a voice in the hopeless situation reminding her that Morphy would come to save her... that wasn’t Avalon playing tricks, was it?
The vampire had already mentioned this to Cui Si, and Cui Si promised that she would investigate, but Morphy felt anxious, so he decided to consult a "professional expert" beside him again.
"Flat"
Morphy opened the door to Cui Si’s office, only to see her resting her head against the desk with a wine bottle, sleeping soundly.
Well then.
Cui Si was a traditional vampire. For them, days like this when it rained without sunlight were the perfect moments to rest. Peaceful slumber to the rhythm of the rain was not only a privilege of humans – vampires likewise enjoyed it.
Morphy shrugged his shoulders, not wishing to disturb the rare moment of sleep Cui Si was enjoying.
He gently placed a cloak over Cui Si’s shoulders and then quietly retreated.
The entire Blood Eagle Corridor was exceptionally silent at this moment.
All the vampires except him might have already drifted to sleep during their rare leisure time, even Adel and Maxim. They inherited Morphy’s blood, so they only had a tiny bit of resistance to sunlight, which couldn’t hold off the drowsiness that came during the daytime.
Morphy even guessed that Lady Shani and her Thorn followers should have also fallen asleep by now.
Just as he was thinking this,
The moment he turned around a corner with his hands behind his back, he saw Count Andre of White Mountain, holding a cup of red tea and reading a book of poetry at a table in the corner.
Andre was staying awake with his red tea to stave off sleep.
But it was evident he was struggling, intermittently yawning, which severely disrupted the "serious," "rational," and "mature" impression he had been maintaining.
This little guy is actually quite handsome too.
However, the path he chose and the overt "handsomeness" of Sir Morphy are not the same concept.
"Why aren’t you sleeping?"
Morphy approaches him, asking gently:
"Are the coffins we prepared for you guys not comfortable enough?"
"No, the walnut wood coffin is filled with quiet fragrance, more conducive to enjoying peaceful dreams in this region of Transylvania than the coffins we make from cold wood."
Count Andrei respectfully lifts his teacup to Morphy, answering:
"I have yet to adjust to life as a vampire. Some human habits are still stubbornly opposing... You don’t seem to have such concerns? You are just like me, a vampire fledgling who has only been converted for a year."
"Ah, there’s a knack to this kind of thing."
Morphy sits beside Count Andre, grinning as the latter politely pours him a cup of court black tea. Morphy fabricates a story in response:
"When I was still human, trying to make a living in Cardman City, I heard some locals talking about the story of the ’day-walkers’ Legends. I guess it’s just a city folklore but it’s quite interesting."
