Chapter 508: 175. God, your servant has finally returned to your side_3
"Yay!"
---
"This is the church district that the Lord has assigned to us. Although it is rundown and needs us to clean up and rebuild the cathedral, it is a good start. Congregation, I am deeply convinced that our God has given us enlightenment in the name of Sir Morphy."
At this moment, in a deserted inner city area above the Blood Eagle Corridor, the kind-hearted Madam Jules is leading two old hunters who came to scout Crimson Castle in advance, pointing out the future location of the Avalon Cathedral.
This place used to be a vampire residential area in the inner city.
But those gorgeous and gloomy buildings were all razed to the ground during the Star Realm invasion. Now what remains are just some ominous ruins with Star Realm Shadows lingering within.
Of course, Mother Mary Ann, who had spent her life dealing with these things, didn’t think much of the Star Realm Shadows. She had at least twenty-seven methods to quickly eliminate them.
What truly worried Mother Mary Ann was the Star Realm Injury overhead that resembled a sky rift.
Although no longer visible to the naked eye, Mother Mary Ann could still feel the endless stream of Star Realm aura flowing into the material world through the injury as she lifted her head.
"This environment will be permanently changed, even affecting the life living here. But this change in life forms is long term. If we can build the Avalon Cathedral, the comfort from Natural Psychic Power will restore some vitality to this land."
Mother Mary-Ann smiled at Madam Jules and added an explanation.
The two were worlds apart in status. When the Avalon Church still existed, Mother Mary-Ann was regarded as a high-level monk, while Madam Jules was merely a common missionary traveling in the countryside.
But in this current era, Mary Ann and Jules are among the few surviving human believers in Avalon, and their status is no longer a matter of distinction.
Old Eugene, who was even more sincere, seemed much more excited than the two older women.
He stood in place, looking at the vast area before him. In his eyes, there seemed to be a vision of a magnificent Natural Cathedral rising from the ground. It felt as though he could return to the parish on Gram Island, stroll along the shaded walkways filled with statues of natural deities, experiencing the kind of beauty that calms the soul.
He murmured the names of divine spirits in his heart and walked forward, examining the layout of this place to better plan for the first newly built Natural Cathedral in ten years.
Not only is this fellow a fervent believer and an outstanding silver-ranked hunter, but he is also an architect specializing in theology and belief.
But just a few steps out, Old Eugene saw a wooden sculpture placed on a table with a chisel next to it. It was obviously a wooden Avalon deity statue in the process of being carved.
He turned and looked at the modestly dressed Madam Jules, asking softly:
"Is this your offering?"
"Yes, after Lord Morphy agreed to let me rebuild the cathedral, I started to offer again for my God, as recorded in the scriptures. The natural Avalon detests extravagance and luxury, believers crafting wooden sculptures by hand can please Him," responded Madam Jules in a gentle tone.
Old Eugene looked serious and said:
"Then please allow me to make a presumptuous request! My hands are stained with blood from the war, burdening my soul. I, a brutal person like me, am not worthy to offer gifts to my God. It has been nearly ten years since I last made an offering with my own hands. Allow me to take over your unfinished work.
I wish to declare that my time of war is over. I wish to return to the identity of a servant of God and offer Him my first natural prayer as a returning traveler with this."
"Of course, a brother in faith, you should wash away the dust of war here and return your soul to the bosom of our God."
Madam Jules made a "please" gesture.
Old Eugene took a deep breath, carefully washed his hands, and then stepped forward to pick up the chisel.
He was clearly skilled, finishing the carving that Madam Jules had been unable to complete in just a few minutes. A lifelike wooden sculpture of Avalon blessing its believers appeared on the table.
As he said himself, Old Eugene wanted to completely free himself from the torment of war. Therefore, he knelt on one knee, removed all the weapons and armor from his body, and prayed to the sculpture in a hemp cloth. He used the simplest apprentice prayer.
Evidently, Old Eugene wasn’t just all talk but genuinely intent on "starting over" and offering faith to his God.
A few seconds later, to the astonishment of Madam Jules and Mother Mary Ann, the ordinary wooden sculpture began to be surrounded by green orbs of light.
At first, it was just specks of light flickering in the wind, but soon gusts of green Spiritual Energy formed around the three believers, giving them the comfort and protection as if they were in a forest.
"My God... My God responded..."
Old Eugene’s eyes were wide like he had been struck by lightning.
This was the first time in ten years since the fall of the old church that he had felt the will of nature so clearly encompassing him, like the gentle caress and encouraging words of a divine spirit.
"My God!"
The sincere believer was moved to tears at this moment.
The aged but firm man prostrated himself on the ground among the ruins, kissing the ground covered in wood chips. Under the purple glow of the Star Realm Injury, the old man shouted with joy and sorrow:
"My God!
We, your lost children, have staggered through the desert of hardship. We, the displaced, have crossed the sea of war. We, the descendants of atonement, have climbed the mountains of time.
My God!
Your most loyal children have finally returned to your side..."
During this lament and outcry, everyone in the ruins of Crimson Castle looked up at this moment.
They felt the cool breeze blowing in this midday, and the clouds covered the annoying sun. Gentle raindrops fell in a soft patter, soon forming a curtain of rain, as if an invisible hand was sweeping across this land heavy with hardship.
On September 17th, 1111, exactly two months after Morphy arrived in the different world, the first autumn rain was sown in Transylvania, and the protection of the God of Avalon also descended upon the human believers once again.
