Chapter 1314: 444. Unite Vertically and Connect Horizontally with Intrigue and Maneuvering - Additional Update for "Blue Eyes" Brothers【11/25】
"The situation report on the Polluted Swamp" was posted on the forum, and several forces related to the Polluted Swamp incident under Murphy’s command began their frequent activities.
There was no need to mention Hog; the Smugglers’ Forest where it resided was the force most closely connected to the Polluted Swamp.
After fleecing the Toxic Town for the last time, the Blood Claw Chief completely cut off contact with that area and had already started sharing all the intelligence about the swamp that it had collected to the student parties active nearby at extremely low prices, practically giving it away.
Speaking of which, the student party really hit the jackpot this time.
During the capture of "Necromancer" Bella, they were certain there was a hidden major plot in the Polluted Swamp and decisively made the Smugglers’ Forest their temporary guild base for the "Crimson Beast Group." With the plot emerging here, these brave students became the first player force under Transylvania to set foot in the swamp.
They had been preparing for this plot all along, no longer rashly relying on luck but on the experience they had gained over time, continuously gathering supplies necessary for long-term activity in the swamp.
They even stockpiled dozens of boxes of alchemical potions to prevent mosquito and insect bites, and when they decided to make their move, every Spiritual Energy user in the student party had at least one commanding Magic Wand, regardless of their level or rank.
As the leader of the student party, Lead Dove even achieved the game’s first "Blood Claw Friend" achievement.
As the first person to raise the reputation of the Bloodclaw Clan to worship, Good Pigeon received a gift from Chief Hog and successfully rode the cool Skeleton War Horse that Sir Morphy had ridden before.
Other team leaders had also switched to impressive Throne Wolves to ensure their travel speed in the swamp.
While other teams were still making preparations, the student parties, following the map hand-drawn by Hog, had already reached the forward outpost in the Polluted Swamp belonging to the Bloodclaw Clan.
Of course, ostensibly it was these vampire pioneers who had expelled the weak Blood Claw Jackal Wolf People and successfully occupied their outpost. After all, everyone in the player faction knew that Hog had become Murphy’s dog, even Colonel Fraser from the Goldenrod Kingdom was aware of this fact, but superficial disguises still had to be maintained.
If news of a truce between vampires and Wolf People were to spread at this critical moment of the Black Disaster’s impending outbreak, it would cast an undeserved shadow over the currently stable situation in Transylvania.
Of course, although the student party was quick to act, this didn’t mean they had a firm advantage because the situation in the "new map" of the Polluted Swamp was unlike any area the players had conquered before.
It was so huge!
The Polluted Swamp lay in the center of Transylvania and the Dark Mountain Range, including the small unknown area of the Swamp Forbidden Area, the currently mapped area was already larger than the whole of Transylvania, and just the undead activity area near Toxic Town was as big as the entire Dark Baron Territory.
Such a huge swamp played an extremely important role in the Continent’s ecosystem.
The Avalon Church’s claim that the ecological system of the entire continent would suffer a devastating impact if the Polluted Swamp was polluted by the forces of the Netherworld was not fear-mongering; it was a conclusion reached after numerous discussions among several Witch-hunting Masters within the church.
Avalon would not sit back and watch the Polluted Swamp fall into the hands of Natural Enemy—it would signify the beginning of an ecological disaster.
"This is really troublesome, isn’t it?"
Atop the watchtower of the empty but well-preserved Jackal Wolf People’s outpost, Good Pigeon looked at the front of the swamp, exuding strange smells and green haze, with a worried face.
One could visibly see wandering undead back and forth in the distant mire, and while leaning on his Psychic Magic Wand, he complained to Ayu beside him:
"Although Hog reminded me before departure that we absolutely cannot split up, it was only after seeing the situation firsthand that I realized how damn huge the hidden plot laid by the developers is. It’s simply not something our guild alone can handle.
The idea of going straight to the heart of it now seems a bit naïve. We have to find others to cooperate with, otherwise, forget attacking Toxic Town, we can’t even get close to the outer defenses of the Wolf People."
"When have you ever seen a new map update in any game that could be tackled by a single players’ guild? Probably no one but you thought we could push through here on our own.
Be assured!
We just need to maintain our advantage over the other guilds."
Ayu, as always, had the demeanor of a great general, soothing the somewhat antsy Good Pigeon while opening the swamp map acquired from Hog.
This was "high-end merchandise" they had only bought after raising the reputation of the Blood Claw clan to worship. Hog had annotated all the information it had explored on it; as long as they followed the map, it would help the student parties to avoid most of the troubles that could arise in the swamp.
The terrain of this swamp was quite complicated.
There were many diverging paths and even "death bogs" that couldn’t be distinguished with the naked eye, just like quicksand pits—if by chance one fell in, there wasn’t a hope of climbing back out.
"According to Hog’s personal map, there are three approaches to the terrain of Toxic Town, guarded by different forces under the Jackal Warlocks. We have to choose one."
