Chapter 1300: 439. Treasure Hunter Tear Flesh’s Ominous Premonition - Additional Chapter for "Jade Little Wheat" Brothers [6/25]_2

"Hmph, if you perform well, I wouldn’t rule out considering it," Tear Flesh said casually.

"Now get out and do your job, and if you botch things up again, I’ll take your head! Let your rotting body become a part of the Skeleton Army, continuing to serve the glorious cause of the Wolf People."

Hog was so frightened that he shuddered again and then limped away from Tear Flesh’s territory with a face full of submission.

As he watched the crippled wretch leave, a hint of cruelty flickered across Tear Flesh’s mercurial, shadowy face. Had it been in line with its former temper, someone like Hog who was more trouble than they were worth would have been thrown into the pit of the undead to be turned into a walking corpse as a warning of the consequences of failure to the others.

However, Tear Flesh was currently experiencing a very complex mix of emotions.

Although it couldn’t pinpoint the source of this sudden worry, as a silver-tier user of Spiritual Energy, the mystical part of its power seemed to be issuing a warning.

Danger was imminent, and it was close at hand.

Tear Flesh decided to perform a divination.

But the result of this divination was much the same as it had been many times before – the pattern of the scattered turtle shell suggested that the upcoming exploration and treasure hunt would be anything but smooth, and it might even encounter mortal danger.

In the past, Tear Flesh would never have embarked on something so perilously risky, but time was no longer a luxury it could afford.

Their clan’s mission to search for the King of Bone Biting’s secret treasure in the Polluted Swamp was a decision made collectively by the chieftains of several Elder Clans of the Dark Mountain Range; it was both an exile and a "test" for the Pestilence Clan.

If Tear Flesh could successfully retrieve the lost treasure of the King of Bone Biting, then its clan could join the "upper class" of the Dark Mountain Range.

If it failed, the Pestilence Clan, even if they managed to return to the Dark Mountains, would be swallowed up by the other Elder Clans.

Society among the Wolf People was not so tenderhearted; once a clan showed weakness and had no powerful allies, it meant catastrophe. Tear Flesh, who had lived and grown up in the Dark Mountains since childhood, understood this all too well.

After contemplating in its territory for a long time, it shakily fetched a pearl bracelet that Murphy would have found very familiar.

Activating the communication spell on it, after patiently waiting a long while, the communication came through.

With a hint of reverence, Tear Flesh spoke to the other end, "Lord Source, we are about to begin exploring Ningkinanka’s territory. We are certain that the King of Bone Biting’s lost treasure is in one of those caves, but we need your help. You once promised that you would assist us at the crucial moment."

"Of course, I remember every word I’ve said, and every promise I’ve made will be fulfilled."

The voice of that mysterious woman who had previously communicated with Triss over a distance emanated from the communication, her tone and timbre no different from before – but Tear Flesh keenly sensed a trace of weakness in the mysterious one’s words.

Was she injured?

How curious...

Tear Flesh thought to itself but showed no outward change.

"I will send a capable subordinate to your side to assist you in finding the symbol of Wolf People civilization. You can return to the Dark Mountains with it and successfully become one of the leaders in this Black Disaster. But Tear Flesh, this help is not for nothing. You get what you want, you help me get what I desire... Hmph, just wait, my envoy will contact you."

After finishing, the enigmatic "Source" cut the communication very decisively, and while Tear Flesh received the promised help, it was not particularly elated.

It knew it was stepping into a quagmire.

Every time it sought power from them, it was pulled deeper into their depths, and unfortunately, the development of the Pestilence Clan had become inseparable from this organization.

And it was aware that it wasn’t just the Pestilence Clan.

Almost all of the major clans of the Wolf People in the Dark Mountain Range, except for the Bonebite Clan who prided themselves as the rightful kings of the Wolf People, were intricately connected to this organization.

What was disquieting was not the dusk’s desperate assist – it was their lack of demand for payback.

This proved that these madmen’s desire was not for conquest or power; their pleasure in destruction itself far outweighed any gains they might make from it.

Such thoughts and attitudes even within the society of the Wolf People were quite explosively extreme.

Sigh.

Tear Flesh hid the pearl necklace away and, leaning on its staff of soul-lost, came to the window of the high tower.

It gazed into the depths of the Polluted Swamp with a chilly look, aware that whether it struggled or tried to prevail, there wasn’t much time left for itself and its clan.

Oh, the legendary artifact.

If it had a choice, it would never have spent the elite members of its clan it had taken a lifetime to amass on such a creature; it was simply too foolish. Yet, having made a pact with power and driven by ambition, it had walked too far down this road of no return, and fate no longer permitted it to turn back.

"Lame Claw, old buddy, I’m here to say goodbye, or perhaps ’farewell forever’ suits better."

The disheartened Hog left the Pestilence Tower and strolled casually down the well-trodden path to the Construct Tower, where he found the madman Lame Claw busily at work.

The latter was currently dressed in a butcher’s apron, using a rusty bone knife to process the unlucky magician that Hog had rescued from the battlefield.
