Chapter 1299: 439. Treasure Hunter Tear Flesh’s Ominous Premonition - Additional Chapter for "Jade Little Wheat" Brothers [6/25]
"Tear Flesh, sir, Plague Tooth’s death was truly tragic! Those damn Transia Knights not only killed it but also hung its head as a trophy over their camp to deter our Wolf People brethren still resisting human tyranny.
I risked my life to escape and bring you this report!
Those humans deserve to die!
You must send your army to annihilate them at once."
In the Pestilence Town within the Polluted Swamp, Hog lay prostrate in tattered "battle-damaged" leather armor before the wrathful Tear Flesh Magician. The slim Jackal Tribe Chief was bruised and swollen, his body still sporting unhealed wounds and bloodied armor hanging in tatters. Even his mouth and neck bore swollen welts, trembling with pain at every word he spoke.
Although there was certainly exaggeration in his account, Tear Flesh could feel the fear surging in the heart of the creature as it reported the outcome of the battle.
It was an undeniable emotion, sufficient proof that what had transpired on the border of Transia was no fabrication.
The troops it had sent to attack the Transia Armament Factory and barracks had indeed suffered an unexpected disaster.
"How could you lead them this way!"
Tear Flesh felt both anger and helplessness, cursing aloud,
"Weren’t you ordered not to cross the Transia border and provoke the Goldenrod Kingdom’s army? Why did you end up near Malo Town? You should have headed north through the Smugglers’ Forest!
Speak!
Were you the one causing mischief?"
"It’s unjust, sir! I’ve been wronged!"
Hog cried out, burying its head lower, betraying fear and cowardice.
It trembled as it explained the entire situation, but Tear Flesh neither responded nor believed immediately, instead waiting with a sinister aura.
Hog had not returned alone.
According to its account, it had exhausted all its trusted aides on the battlefield and saved a Plague Warlock, the unfortunate individual who had lost an arm and a leg and was now "receiving treatment" in the lower levels of the Mage Tower.
Several minutes later, a Jackal Magician covered in blood from a fresh "surgery" hurried over and whispered to Tear Flesh:
"I’ve questioned Buck Tooth, and it recounted the whole process, which matched what this cripple has said. They were strictly following your instructions through the Smugglers’ Forest when they encountered a vampire’s Mage Tower.
These Blood Claw fools didn’t recognize such a Mage Tower, but Plague Tooth knew better and took a side road, a cautious move typical of its nature. Tragically, this overly cautious choice led to an unfortunate encounter with a Goldenrod Kingdom patrol.
The battle that broke out ended in a wretched fight.
Plague Tooth released a Netherworld Curse in the end, causing the dead near Malo Town to rise until all of them had been eliminated, which, by the number of those who died there in the decade-long war, meant their raid wasn’t entirely fruitless.
That continuously functioning ritual will draw the attention of the Exploration Corps. If the Goldenrod People can’t eliminate its effects within two months, the area will become a source of troops for us again when The Army of Dark Disaster arrives!"
"This counts for nothing as a victory! Not only did we not achieve our initial goal, but we’ve also drawn even more attention to ourselves! Indeed, it’s beneficial for the Black Disaster, but a threat to us! Stupid! Plague Tooth deserved to die!
A good riddance!"
Tear Flesh was almost driven mad by the truth.
The current situation was intolerable; they had their mission to accomplish in Pestilence Town, which was now not only hampered by nearby Transia People, but also noticed by Ceylan People.
It was the worst-case scenario for the Pestilence Clan.
However, given the circumstances, there was nothing more it could seek.
Indeed, it could kill Hog there to vent its anger, but for a cunning Magician like Tear Flesh, every piece of rotten flesh had its use, especially Hog, who was both cunning and unfortunate.
It waved its claw, ordering the Jackal Magician responsible for treating Buck Tooth to send the half-dead creature to the construction tower to be handed over to Lame Claw for "waste utilization." It then stared at Hog with icy, sharp eyes.
Blood Claw Chief curled up on the ground in fright.
Hog was much smaller than the average Wolf Person, let alone compared to the more robust Dark Mountain Jackals. Its disgraceful appearance quickly bored Tear Flesh.
The Jackal Magician huffed, speaking harshly:
"You’ve made a mistake, Hog, and I should punish you severely for that, but our clan needs everyone right now, so I’ll give you a chance to atone! Return to your clan immediately, take your people, and attack those Transia People who are building fortifications outside the swamp preparing to enter.
I don’t expect you to inflict any harm on them, nor could you achieve that.
All I want is for you to hold them off, delay them, until the Pestilence Clan’s mission in the Polluted Swamp is completed.
It won’t be much longer."
"Eh?"
Hog was taken aback by this suicidal order.
It trembled with its mouth wide open, seemingly in a fierce mental struggle. After several seconds, Hog let out a sigh.
It said,
"I understand, sir. I will throw all my elite tribespeople at them to buy you time, but I hope... I mean, if I lose my clan in this operation, may I join your Pestilence Clan?"
