Chapter 1185: 401. Damn, how did you guys ruin another Novice Village again! - [Extra 8/10]
Another dawn broke over Transylvania, and in the large den of Smugglers’ Forest, Lord Hog, the thriving Blood Claw Chief who had been enjoying his days, got up and moved out of his cave.
He wiped his cunning, wise eyes and shook his short bald tail, donning his "assassin suit" hood as usual, concealing his face in the darkness.
He stood atop the highest point of this great den and looked below.
Although it was just getting light, the well-managed and very "diligent" clan under him had already awoken.
Groups of Blood Claw Hunters, riding Earth Wolves, followed their captains’ lead around the woodland, securing fresh meat and fruits from the forest during their morning patrol, while the stronger Jackal Barbarian under Captain Martai Dumber advanced towards the outposts in the woodland periphery.
They were there to take over the shift for the day from the Barbarian Soldiers under Captain Van Gore, one of Hog’s strongest and most trusted Barbarian leaders, although a bit less savvy about reading Hog’s mind than Nash.
Furthermore, not only had the Barbarians set out, even the female Jackals, under the leadership of a few of Hog’s spouses, entered the caverns below to fulfill their duties; the leather from the woodland prey they gathered needed to be processed and sent in bulk to Crimson Castle through the channels of the Blood Rat Gang.
There, specialized fur traders of the Batasin Business Association would buy these "dubiously sourced" but high-quality goods and pay with food.
All in all, under Hog’s leadership, the Jackals of the Bloodclaw Clan became famously "hardworking" after they had taken over the fertile lands of Smugglers’ Forest, never indulging in "laziness."
Hog, gifted in all things strategic and following his "Dog-headed Military Advisor’s" advice, had assigned work to every clan member, and as taught by Little Wei Ming, Hog did not want to see his clan members idly wandering.
Keeping everyone busy meant they had no time for senseless thoughts.
Of course, as Chieftain, Hog set an example.
He had his own job!
When a tight-knit group of usually lively young Jackals came with a somber mood akin to visiting a grave to the chief’s tent, today’s "teaching" session began right as the first ray of sunlight entered the great den.
Chief Hog personally taught the lesson!
He even revised the "textbooks" used by the young Jackals, shifting emphasis to "Jackal History" when realizing their undeveloped brains couldn’t grasp more complex knowledge.
He focused on describing the experiences from the four Black Disasters and the rise and fall of the King of Bone Biting.
He wanted the children of his tribe to understand that even though the Jackals of Transia originated from the same root as those of the Dark Mountain Range, they were not "kin," much less connected by racial ties.
This advice also came from his "Dog-headed Military Advisor."
Little Wei Ming regarded Hog as a friend.
She did not wish to see Hog and his clan obliterated, so she suggested that Hog start "reforming" the historical and world view of Transia’s Jackals.
The Jackals from the Dark Mountain Range undoubtedly harbored ambitions to take over the continent and should be thoroughly defeated.
However, these Jackals from Transia were also victims of the Black Disaster War. They could have integrated into the land of Transia if not for the Dark Mountain Jackals’ unwillingness to give up warfare, which resulted in them being dragged into being perceived as "enemies of civilization."
Hog was smart and keenly realized that adopting the narrative suggested by Little Wei Ming could significantly improve the local Jackals’ living conditions.
Most importantly, once the "separation" was made, with the passing of time, he and his clan could naturally become loyal followers under Sir Morphy in the lands of Transia, thereby definitively escaping the fate of being hunted.
However, this "separation" was risky.
Hog knew that with the imminent arrival of the fifth Black Disaster, should his proactive separation actions be discovered by the Dark Mountain Jackals, they would face mad slaughter from these "distant relatives."
In any race, traitors were the most despised.
So this matter had to be conducted in secret.
Adult Jackals were left alone as their mindsets were hard to change, but these youngsters, if well educated, could eventually be ousted from the clan upon reaching adulthood to proliferate elsewhere in Transia, thereby naturally achieving Hog’s desire to alter the status quo.
These were all seeds, representing the promise of beautiful fruits to blossom in the future.
Of course, all this assumed that the Bloodclaw Clan could withstand the current Black Disaster.
In fact, Hog had a contingency plan; while Sir Morphy was still around, he would fulfill his mission and duties as an "ambassador," but if Sir Morphy and his warriors failed, then as the local Jackals’ leader, Hog leading them to surrender to their distant kin was also not much of an issue.
The least they had to ensure was survival.
