Chapter 505: Chapter 504: The ’My Friend’ Brought Forth by Beating

"Ambush!"

Xiang Nan’s eyes instantly turned deathly pale. He quickly turned his head, only to see the large iron door slam shut, leaving the warehouse without a sliver of light.

He struggled to recall everything that had just happened, and quickly thought of a possibility.

A show of intimidation.

Where there are people, there are rivers and lakes. It seemed Shao Zifeng’s attention to him had aroused resentment from others.

Pat pat.

In the darkness, the clear sound of footsteps resonated. Xiang Nan held his dagger in a reverse grip but did not act rashly.

Perhaps those people didn’t know that darkness was his home ground. He actually wanted to see what tricks they were up to.

Click.

The dim desk lamp turned on, dispelling the darkness nearby.

"So this is the captain’s recruit from Bin University. He doesn’t seem that special."

Upon hearing this, Xiang Nan narrowed his eyes, his fingers clutching the dagger tightening slightly. Looking in the direction of the voice, he saw a young man walking towards him at a leisurely pace.

Because the man was backlit, his features weren’t clear. He seemed ordinary, as though his face could be easily forgotten the moment one looked away.

The young man stopped about two meters away from Xiang Nan, tilted his chin up at him arrogantly, and said, "Hey, Bin University kid, get back to your school. This isn’t a place for you."

"Oh?" Xiang Nan’s displeasure grew, and his right hand holding the dagger trembled slightly, "If you dare to come one step closer and say that again..."

"Pfft." The young man stood backlit, tilting his head disdainfully, "I want to see what you can do about it."

As he spoke, he took a step forward.

Xiang Nan’s lips curved into a sinister smile, his muscles tensed, ready to launch an attack at any moment.

"Wait a minute!"

Just then, a fragrant breeze brushed by as a young girl spread her arms and stood in front of Xiang Nan.

"Hu... that guy." Li Yiren momentarily couldn’t recall his name and mumbled her way through, "Xiang senior is someone the captain values. You can’t hurt him!"

Hearing her words, Xiang Nan’s expression flickered, and the muscles that were tightly coiled slowly relaxed.

On the other side, Hu Shiwu’s mouth twitched slightly, his expression a mix of laughter and tears.

"Someone he values can’t be hurt?"

As he said this, Hu Shiwu slowly lowered his head, muttering to himself about what gave them the right...

Li Yiren was confused; this wasn’t the script they had set previously.

But with things having come this far, she had no choice but to bite the bullet and continue, "Just because he’s valued by the captain, I can’t let you hurt him!"

"Enough!" Hu Shiwu suddenly raised his head, his eyes red with fury as he bellowed at her, "What’s this about him being valued? It’s just because you all underestimate me!"

The roar echoed in the warehouse, and Li Yiren, looking at Hu Shiwu’s fierce face, was genuinely frightened. She stammered an apology in a low voice, "I’m sorry."

"Sorry, what’s the use of being sorry."

"Do you remember my name?"

"You can’t even remember my name. Why the hell..!"

Xiang Nan stared blankly at the young man opposite him, listening to his roar as if he’d glimpsed his own past.

There was a time when he too was overlooked by everyone in the school team.

He understood this feeling better than anyone else.

Taking a deep breath, he spoke in a calm tone, "Step aside. If he wants to fight, I’ll give him a good fight."

"But..."

Li Yiren stuttered, unable to finish her sentence, stepping aside as the script was now out of her control.

"You really want to fight me?" Hu Shiwu asked, looking at Xiang Nan, his expression gradually becoming calm.

"Of course." Xiang Nan’s face was taut as he looked back at him, "One on one, I’ll beat you until you admit defeat!"

Their gazes met in the air, filled with fighting spirit.

Just as the fight was about to erupt, Hu Shiwu suddenly said, "No beasts and no weapons. Let’s have a man-to-man duel."

Hearing this, Xiang Nan looked deeply at Hu Shiwu, then tossed away the dagger in his hand.

"Fine."

In the dim light of the abandoned warehouse, the two men stood facing each other.

Hu Shiwu flexed his wrists and with a roar exclaimed, "Come on!"

Both of them threw their punches at the same time. The short two-meter distance closed in an instant as their fists bypassed each other, hammering violently towards the other’s chest.

Bang!

The two grunted simultaneously, Hu Shiwu’s wrist twisting to grab Xiang Nan’s arm as his other elbow pounded heavily into his ribcage.

Xiang Nan clutched his abdomen and swiftly retreated. When he lifted his head, a whip kick was coming toward the side of his head.

He raised his arm to block hurriedly, using the force to roll backwards on the ground.

By the time he got up, the man was upon him again.

In the dim light, brown curls flashed before Xiang Nan’s eyes.

He paused for a moment, sensing something was off.

But faced with the opponent’s offensive, he didn’t have the luxury to think and struck back awkwardly.

Thump thump thump!

The dull sounds echoed in the warehouse. Punch after punch, each strike landed with a thud.

Xiang Nan only felt an exceptional pain in his chest; he squinted at the shadowy figure that appeared and disappeared in the darkness, harboring a strange illusion in his heart.

It was as if he were fighting several people at the same time.

Shaking his head, Xiang Nan squinted once more.

Under the light, Hu Shiwu’s ordinary face reappeared as he swung his fists and roared, smashing towards him.

"Come on, hit me!!"

Thud, thud, thud!

Facing the fierce torrent of attacks, Xiang Nan tightly wrapped his arms around his head.

He felt as if his chest was about to explode, and his head became dizzy.

He couldn’t lose; he absolutely couldn’t admit defeat!

In the future...

"I don’t want to lose either!"

With a sudden release of his arms, Xiang Nan roared and knocked the person in front of him off balance.

His face flushing red, he bellowed, "Bring it on!!"

Bang!

No sooner had the words left his mouth than someone charged from the side, striking a blow to his cheek.

Xiang Nan turned around, his eyes rolling back as he trembled and pointed at the attacker, "You don’t fight fair..."

Thump.

A moment later, footsteps echoed in the darkness.

Grinning and wincing, Hu Shiwu rubbed his chest, "Goodness, this kid sure can take a beating. A few more hits, and I reckon I’d be down for the count."

"Indeed." Casar nodded.

Li Yiming shook his hand out, "Got a hard head too."

Crouching down, Hu Shiwu looked at Xiang Nan then said looking up, "Are we being too harsh here? Wouldn’t want to knock him senseless."

"No way, you didn’t see just how cocky he was just now." A soft female voice resonated as Li Yiren pointed her phone at the bruised Xiang Nan, "After all, we’re a team. It’s good to temper his edge a bit."

Click!

As the light flashed, Li Yiren grinned and waggled her phone at the three of them.

"Mission accomplished!"

...

Imperial Capital.

After dinner at the research institute’s cafeteria, Shao Zifeng was driven to a nearby hotel in a dedicated car.

"Ooo~"

No sooner had he changed his clothes than the eager call of the Cold River Dragon Whale resounded within him.

It seemed the cooldown time for Sky Control had ended.

Shao Zifeng checked the time; it had been about three hours since the last time.

"Ooo~"

The ethereal whale song began as the massive body of the Cold River Dragon Whale appeared in the room.

The little guy had just turned around in the air when his tail whacked the ceiling hard.

"You..." Shao Zifeng’s ice-blue pupils expanded to fill his eyes, and he beckoned with a hand shrouded in elemental particles.

The Cold River Dragon Whale leapt over, burying its head in his embrace.

Cool and soft to the touch, only the ice horn was a bit of a nuisance.

After playing with it for a while, the little one settled down quietly on the floor, its broad, veil-like fins enveloping Zifeng and rubbing against him.

Amused, Zifeng tapped its forehead and took out his phone.

"Captain, I’ve finished the task you assigned [image]"

Seeing the photo of the bruised and swollen Xiang Nan, Shao Zifeng was taken aback.

Just a few months without seeing each other, and these guys have become such badasses?

If his own ability hadn’t happened to counter Xiang Nan, it wouldn’t have been so easy, right?

After reflecting a bit, he opened the second message.

"My friend, on the road ahead, hardships and dangers will surely not let you walk alone—Xiang Nan."

Shao Zifeng was utterly baffled.

He checked the contact again, it was definitely Xiang Nan.

What happened.

How did getting thrashed turn into calling each other ’my friend’?

Hisss.

Hope they haven’t knocked the kid senseless!
