Chapter 126: Chapter 126 rules of engagement

She didn’t say anything. Silence means consent.

I walked behind her, looking at her pure white neck and delicate collarbone. From my angle, I could even see the deep groove, which made me feel a surge of heat.

As I helped her in putting on the necklace, my fingers accidentally brushed against her delicate skin, causing my heart to race. Once the necklace was in place, instead of stepping away, I leaned in close to her ear and softly whispered, "You look stunning today, like you’ve just walked out of a fairy tale! Thank you for coming tonight. Will you be my girlfriend?"

Her body stiffened slightly, her breathing quickened for a moment, and, most interestingly, her ears turned red. She was nervous.

"William, I..."

"Trust me, I will treat you well; I won’t let you down."

I held her crystal-clear earlobe. She hummed softly, leaning weakly against the chair. "William, don’t, don’t..."

I slowly changed tactics, kissing her neck. "The hickey I gave you last time has disappeared. Today, I’ll leave you some new ones!"

"No," she said weakly.

No use saying no!

I lifted her onto my lap, gazed at her enticing red lips, and leaned in closely, the scent of champagne on my breath heightening my excitement. I eagerly relished the sweetness, and she reciprocated by clutching onto my neck with both hands.

"Will you be my girlfriend? I will treat you well."

She didn’t say anything, just passively accepted. Slowly, she began to respond to me, and it became more and more intense.

I felt increasingly hot all over, thinking, "Since we’re in a private room and the door is locked, with no one coming in, why not..." But as I reached her breasts with my sly hands, she suddenly snapped out of it and pushed me away, saying, "No, we can’t."

I immediately halted, noticing her innocent eyes, her face flushed red, and her fragrant breath. She was incredibly captivating and alluring.

She breathed slightly. "William, I won’t allow you to do this."

I quickly said, "I’m sorry. You’re too beautiful, too lovely; I couldn’t help myself."

If you say sorry, it’s my fault; she’ll definitely get angry.

"Lily, will you be my girlfriend? At work, we’ll be the same as before, but outside, we’ll be in a boyfriend-girlfriend relationship, okay?"

She hesitated, "This isn’t good; it’s easy to be found out!"

I scoffed in my mind, "She’s already figured it out, and now her tsundere side is acting up again."

I wrapped my arms around her slender waist, determined to move forward. Resting my head on her fragrant neck, my breath gently caressed her delicate skin. "I understand your concerns. I promise to respect boundaries at work. I will prioritize you, cherish and support you, and treat you like my princess," I whispered.

Who needs to set rules when you’re in love? Isn’t that restricting yourself?

"I... I..."

Noticing her hesitation, I grew impatient and leaned in closer. After a moment of lingering, she felt a bit dizzy from my proximity, and my hand began to wander toward her skirt. She swiftly caught my hand, preventing me from going any further. "William, if you try this again, I will be mad."

"I just want to protect you, be your rock, okay?" I looked at her earnestly.

She gritted her teeth and said with difficulty, "Okay, but I have a condition!"

"We need to set some ground rules."

Damn, she really said that, so all that talk I just did was in vain.

"Ah, do we really need rules for dating?" I feigned a pitiful expression. "Who sets rules for dating anyway? Doesn’t that defeat the purpose of dating?"

"I don’t care; if you’re dating me, we need ground rules."

Lily snorted, "If you don’t want to, let go now! There are plenty of people willing to set ground rules with me."

How could I let go? I held her even tighter. "Can’t let go, can’t let go, if I let go, I’ll lose my wife!"

"You are lucky!" she huffed. "First, you can’t hug or kiss me without my permission! Second, we can’t make our relationship public. Third, you must obey me. We can’t share a bed until I’m ready!"

Damn! These were not three rules; they are clearly a long list. Was that what people call dating? I seem to have found myself a challenging one!

"Well... isn’t it normal for couples to be affectionate? Besides, we’re already at this stage, how about skipping the first rule?"

"No way!" She was firm.

I suddenly felt a surge of anger. Not listening, huh? Obviously a sub, but trying to play the dom with me? I’ll show you!

Without saying a word, I moved closer again, this time more confidently, my hands exploring. She pushed me away, fists pounding my chest, slowly relenting.

After a while, I stated, "Having separate beds and keeping our relationship private is acceptable, but certain things are non-negotiable. Kissing and hugging you is my right as your boyfriend. You know how alluring you are to me. If I can resist, then I may have difficulty in certain situations."

I lifted her chin and continued, "The separate beds are to give you time to adjust, understand who I am, and prove that I, William, will succeed and thrive."

"Keeping our relationship private also protects you. I don’t want to feel like you’re pitying me. I don’t want that kind of relationship, it’s doomed to fail!"

"I do want to be with you, but that doesn’t mean I want to be a pushover. Do you like someone who is a pushover? I doubt it. I can be possessive and a bit traditional. If you can accept that, then we can be together. If not, then today never happened."

Damn, the ball’s in my court. If this doesn’t impress her, I might as well go home and sleep!

The atmosphere was tense, and I was a bit nervous, but I knew she didn’t like weakness. We locked eyes, sincere and determined.

Forgiveness and a New Beginning

She bit her lip. "You jerk, after all this, you are acting like nothing happened. What do you take me for?"

I was delighted. "Does that mean she’s agreeing?"

Despite my inner excitement, I maintained a sincere expression. "Of course, I see you as my girlfriend, my future partner."

She snorted and turned her head away, appearing to be angry, but the slight curve of her lips betrayed her true feelings. I felt elated, realizing that we were making progress.

But there’s still a long way to go.

"Lily, can you forgive me for not being angry?"
