Chapter 189: A Magna Prospect’s Sacrifice

"Bryan!!"

A young woman’s scream echoed in the depths of the redwood forest as a tall young man with black spiky hair and a lean physique, who was running out of blood from having his left hand severed, suddenly turned and dashed in the opposite direction.

Bryan then stopped, stood his ground, and began casting three Reinforced Earthen Walls simultaneously, all of which were on par with Rocky’s.

"Lady Ennya! We must run! Do not waste Bryan’s sacrifice!" roared another young woman, grabbing Ennya’s wrists before she could stop.

This forced the red-haired midget to continue running.

Fury burned and was reflected through her tearful eyes as she retreated, memories of the annoying Bryan flashing through her mind.

Their time together was short.

However, she truly cherished everything and was happy that her subordinates—despite her willfulness—continued to support her.

They even courageously voiced their opinions against her plans and had indirectly called her dumb a few times over the past three weeks.

She knew she wasn’t too smart, so she didn’t take their frustrations too personally.

Nonetheless, Ennya tried her best to become the best version of a leader her lacking intelligence allowed her to be, playing to her strengths and making bold calls, risky as they might be.

What was infuriating was that she couldn’t even blame herself for what happened today.

This day was one of the few rare days she was in a good mood and decided to clear the marked locations with safety as the top priority.

She didn’t try to show off or anything, just basic camp-clearing while working with her squadron.

Yet, it was this day that something went wrong, as the purple-skinned bastards suddenly appeared.

This was her first real encounter with the Fellkin.

The Fire Platoon remained calm, despite having an almost-certain guess of what the humanoid creatures in front of them were.

They worked with their squadrons to try and take on a Fellkin each, while Ennya’s squadron took on two.

Things weren’t too bad in the first ten seconds.

The three squadrons were even winning out in the exchanges.

The only problem was Ennya’s squadron, as they had to face two.

Ennya herself boldly took on a Fellkin Warrior alone, going toe-to-toe with her adversary even though she had barely turned 19.

Her four squadron members, on the other hand, weren’t faring so well.

Ultimately, two of them were killed in the skirmish just around half a minute in, tipping the tide of the small-scale battle in favor of the Fell race.

The situation turned infinitely worse the moment the first death occurred.

As a result, the Fire Platoon lost and was now on the retreat, two members gone forever.

And the count was about to increase to three.

Ennya’s gaze, however, suddenly turned mad, desperation and determination not to let another of her subordinates perish swirling in her eyes.

Everyone who knows her can call it whimsical or whatever.

However, the midget had always stayed true to her heart and wasn’t ashamed to do so, wholeheartedly accepting her identity.

She would always be one of the people who would act on their emotions and not on logic.

It’s fine...she shall keep living this way until fate and the gods decide that her time in this world is up.

Perhaps she could only live until today, but she would live without regrets.

Without thinking too much about her actions.

She wanted to help Bryan, so she sure as hell would, and no one can stop her.

Ennya forcefully freed herself from her subordinate’s grip, quickly turning around, ordering:

"NONE OF YOU ARE ALLOWED TO STAY BEHIND!! RUN! I’LL HELP BRYAN!!"

Her plan was outright stupid and illogical, and it didn’t even seem like she had a plan on how to get Bryan and herself out.

She was simply going to die.

The Fire Platoon members paled in fright, cursing to the four winds.

Why?! Why had their Lady chosen to be willful at this critical moment?!

They were petrified, torn between following her orders or the duty given to them by the empire.

Ennya couldn’t be allowed to die, but at the same time, they were ordered to obey her every whim, absurd as they may be.

What the hell were they supposed to do?!

Some of them inwardly hated her for being so frustrating, but at this moment, they saw the true Ennya Kasai.

She wasn’t very bright and was insanely willful, but she was also selfless.

Which of the other Magna Prospects would be willing to die for a subordinate they had known for only three weeks?

The platoon’s desperate synergy, developed by the need to work together due to Ennya’s whims, shattered at that moment.

Some remained frozen on the spot, others ran with gritted teeth and a guilty heart, while a select few followed their leader and returned to the fray.

Bryan’s Reinforced Earthen Walls easily crumbled to mere rubble as dark Thunder Spears and Void Blasts collided with them.

Two of the Fellkin Warriors then emerged from the mild smokescreen, their fists crackling with thunder as they punched at the tall young man.

Bryan had already closed his eyes and accepted his fate.

But then, the temperature to his left suddenly rose, prompting Bryan to open his eyes.

There it was: a massive fireball, blasting forth from his left.

The two fell bastards’ eyes widened, and they were forced to attack the fireball instead, shooting back afterwards due to the minor explosion of the clash, their arms raised and crossed in front of their faces.

However, there were subtle, victorious grins on their faces.

The dumb humans can’t even prioritize the safety of their most talented youngsters!

"Beran, lock her in!" exclaimed one of the Fellkin Warriors who charged Bryan.

"You don’t need to tell me."

Normally, they would’ve tried their best to capture women, but Ennya was just too important to be left alive.

She had talent rivaling those of the Maligna Seres of their kind—a title that can only be obtained by the most ruthless and talented among the Fellkin.

...Above Ennya, a black magic circle appeared, from which a tall cage of highly durable and flexible, translucent black walls emerged and locked her in.

The spell didn’t prevent her from using spatial magic to escape.

The problem was, she was barely past her first year of wizardry, and her knowledge wasn’t yet enough to learn a complicated spell like Blink, which was the only one that could get her out of the darkness cage.

The situation soon worsened as two massive dark-blue magic circles appeared in the sky next, seemingly gathering power for one, devastating bolt of lightning that would smite Ennya and the area around her.

She could use Flaming Outburst to try and fight the thunderbolt, but she would be in the midst of the clash and would be affected by the explosion as well, possibly resulting in her death.

There was also the issue of timing the outburst perfectly, which, to do so against something as instantaneous as lightning, would be next to impossible to do.

Meanwhile, Bryan was trying to break the cage with Earthen Spikes, Earthen Pillars, and Rock Bullets, but none were working.

It seemed to only be a matter of time before Ennya would perish.

But then, a sudden shift occurred.

The red-haired midget inside the cage transformed into a black-haired young man who, before the lightning struck, teleported out of the cage.

Hal then reappeared beside Bryan and sent him flying back to the other platoon members rushing to aid their lady using [Knockback], before escaping the lightning’s area of effect himself by turning into a ray of thunder that instantly reappeared beside the Fire Platoon members after one loud, violent noise.

The devastating lightning bolt struck nothing but empty, brownish-red ground.
