Chapter 179: Weary Hao

*ROAR!*

The furious Fell Beast roared at Hal, then leapt into the air and turned into an earthen ball, rolling straight toward him.

But Hal wasn’t fazed in the slightest, simply using [Licht Step] to dodge out of the way.

He then summoned a diagonally angled [Ice Wall] that didn’t block the Redlands Bush Hog but caused it to launch into the air instead.

"Shoot it down!" Hal ordered, his voice carrying a hint of viciousness.

But as it turned out, he didn’t need to say it.

His subordinates had fought their fair share of battles and had enough experience to know.

An airborne target that can’t fly cannot dodge.

Various elemental projectiles shot towards the Fell Beast, howling and screeching as they tore through the air, painting a colorful yet lethal scene.

"BAHAHAHA! Die, Fell Beast!" laughed Rocky, casting an Earthen Spike spell aimed at piercing the monster from beneath.

Unfortunately, they had underestimated the beast’s toughness.

Gray smoke billowed as the elemental spells converged at a single point.

However, most of the projectiles merely bounced off the monster’s earthen back, while those that struck its body and face failed to pierce or cut deeply.

All it suffered were superficial wounds as it crashed headfirst into the ground, roaring in moderate pain.

As soon as the visual obstructions cleared, however, the Fell Redlands Bush Hog was revealed to be charging again, but this time at Yhohan’s Squadron.

"Kido!! In position, help me defend!" shouted the short, female squadron leader with a boyish hairstyle.

The tall and lean Kido already knew what to do, standing behind his squadron leader and pressing both hands onto Yhohan’s back, enveloping her with a faint blue aura.

The next moment, a thick [Reinforced Ice Wall] emerged from the ground, stopping the Redlands Bush Hog dead in its tracks.

The defensive spell cracked and was on the verge of crumbling, but it held long enough for dark hands to emerge from a black magic circle on the ground, latching on to the Fell Beast’s short yet powerful limbs.

"Again!" Hal ordered, to which his subordinates answered with another volley of elemental spells, this time using the stronger ones in their arsenal.

A flame tornado roared as ice rained from above, all while a massive boulder fell from the sky, wind slashers screeched, and conjured swords shot forth.

It was a cataclysmic array of spells, all landing on the lone Fell Beast.

Hal even nodded in appreciation at the Dark Orbs, Void Blasts, and Piercing Lights.

It seemed there were a few users of rare elements, though none could match the sheer destructiveness of Vyse’s, Felix’s, and Liora’s spells.

Those three were blessed by the gods, after all.

The Redlands Bush Hog certainly didn’t get off easy this time.

To the Chaos Platoon’s horror, it was still alive, struggling to stand up as the gray smoke cleared.

"F*ck... seriously?" Hal’s eyes narrowed at the Fell Beast’s insane endurance and vitality, then widened a moment later as he sensed danger behind the Hao Squadron.

The short, bespectacled squadron leader seemed to have detected it too.

"Hao, behind you!" Hal warned.

"I know, boss. Leave it to me!" Hao responded confidently, quickly sprinting to the back of his squadron and drawing their attention.

Just as the platoon was down a squadron due to a threat from another direction, Rocky suddenly turned around and sprinted to the back of his squad.

"There’s another headed our way, boss!" the massive baldy declared, prompting his squad members to instinctively turn and face the approaching creature, whatever it was.

It seemed that the mana disturbance due to the ongoing battle attracted more Fell Beasts their way.

"Tch," Hal clicked his tongue in annoyance and slight regret.

Isolde had already warned him about the Fell Beasts’ characteristics, so he had somewhat predicted that they would be swarmed if they failed to finish off the one they were battling before the others arrived.

Still, Hal had decided to run a few tests—mainly on his subordinates’ competence in combat, which clearly backfired, as he had severely underestimated the Fell Redlands Bush Hog’s toughness.

How the hell was it even still alive, anyway?

’I’ll finish this thing off myself, then.’

"Yhohan Squadron, support the Rocky and Hao Squadrons. Leave this wounded beast to me," Hal instructed.

The Redlands Bush Hog was on its last legs anyway...

But then, in the next moment, he sensed two more beasts approaching from different directions. One was closer to the Hao Squadron, and the other was coming from behind Yhohan’s.

’Sh*t... I messed up as a leader, didn’t I?’ Hal cursed inwardly, finally feeling the weight of his responsibility as platoon leader.

The situation wasn’t something that could be solved by merely outwitting the beasts and escaping with their lives.

After all, everyone was of different minds and bodies.

Some of them were probably not equipped for such scenarios and would end up dying if Hal forced the escape.

The Chaos Platoon can only fight its way out of this pinch.

At this moment, Hao was growing frustrated and disappointed.

He knew this was one of the likely scenarios to happen if Hal overestimated himself, and, as it turned out, their leader did.

Now, Hao would have to clean up after his mess and deal with two Fell Beasts.

He was just so weary of situations like this...

But then, just as the two Fell Beasts he would have to face came into view—a two-meter-tall, five-meter-long Fell Zephyr Leopard and a three-meter-tall Fell Thunder Elk—a loud snapping sound echoed from behind him.

Hao instinctively glanced back at Hal and the Redlands Bush Hog.

His eyes widened, and his heart trembled at what he saw.

The Fell Beast they had first fought wasn’t even allowed a final death cry.

It had already been chomped from the head down to the waist by the massive, dark maw in Hal’s hands.

The Fell Redlands Bush Hog was dead in a single second, and their leader was already charging forward alone, fearlessly, at the Fell Thunder Elk.
