Chapter 54: Chapter 20 Prenatal Check-up (Part 2)_3
Mo Feng and the others did not follow back to the Ke Family; their curiosity about Du Xixi had been satisfied. They had seen the sister-in-law and tasted the delicious food; content, they each returned home.
And upon returning to the Ke Family, the first thing Du Xixi did was place the prenatal checkup report in a small box in the room. This was what she and Ke Lian had agreed upon—to keep a record of every check-up, to review them one-by-one after the child was born and grew up.
This was undoubtedly the promise between Ke Lian and Du Xixi, that they would still be together after the child grew up, with no reason for separation. They wanted to use their lifetime to record, preserve, and then, in the final part of their lives, reminisce about their most beautiful years.
Ke Lian followed Du Xixi upstairs and, seeing her doing so, held her from behind, somewhat greedily lowering his head, burying it deep in the nape of her neck. There, a few strands of Du Xixi’s long hair scattered, and the fresh scent of her shampoo combined with her sweet fragrance, mesmerizing Ke Lian.
"Xixi, you smell so good." Ke Lian chuckled lightly, his warm breath spraying on her skin, causing a shiver.
Du Xixi smiled helplessly but wasn’t startled by Ke Lian’s sudden attack, for this scene was something Ke Lian enacted almost every day. Initially, she would be shocked and shy; now? She could completely ignore it!
Yet Du Xixi remained curious. Ke Lian always said she smelled good, but she never noticed it herself. They shared the same toiletries, and since she was pregnant, she hadn’t used perfumes or cosmetics. Du Xixi was sure her scent was clean to the utmost.
Du Xixi raised her hand to touch Ke Lian’s head, starting to daydream. Could it be that after a wife gets pregnant, the husband’s hormones also spike? Otherwise, why would Ke Lian exude such springtime vibes every day?
Ke Lian, naturally, was unaware of the whimsical thoughts swirling in his wife’s mind, so he continued holding Du Xixi for a while. Watching her obedient demeanor softened his heart, but remembering the mountain of military duties in his study, he reluctantly let go of Du Xixi.
Ke Lian always thought Chen Yin was an incompetent majesty; it was his military affairs that should have been handled, yet all were delivered to the Ke Family, showing a typical hands-off style.
Ke Lian bid farewell to his beloved little wife and sat at the desk in his study, coldly glancing at the military affairs, fully understanding Chen Yin’s intentions.
Ke Lian knew well about the relationship between Chen Yin and Du Xixi; it was purely that of siblings. Chen Yin was eager to give half of his "kingdom" to Du Xixi to ensure her happiness.
To Chen Yin, a sister-controlled brother, Ke Lian was nothing but a rotten pig who had claimed their precious cabbage. If it weren’t for the fact they were clearly mutually affectionate and had already come to a boil, Chen Yin would probably have taken charge to end this "arranged marriage" promptly.
Having been promoted from brother to uncle, Chen Yin pondered for several days and decided to keep Ke Lian busy. This way, even if he and Du Xixi stayed under the same roof, the time they spent together would significantly decrease.
Though it’s not quite fair, Chen Yin nonetheless chose to mischievously inconvenience his brother-in-law.
Too bad, Chen Yin’s "great" idea was going to flop...
Ke Lian looked at Du Xixi, who quietly knocked and came in, nestled herself in a soft chair with a book to accompany him, a satisfied smile tugging at his lips.
He was content not only because Chen Yin’s plan had failed but also because Du Xixi held him in her heart, knowing to take time out to be with him, the "busy man."
Ke Lian began to seriously handle the military affairs, and Du Xixi occasionally glanced at him, feeling sweet and tender inside. Actually, she understood why Ke Lian suddenly got so busy: most likely, it was Chen Yin’s antics. However, Du Xixi didn’t stop it because she knew that Ke Lian’s busyness was once his norm.
The reason she felt Ke Lian suddenly became busy was because of his recent rest and companionship, which made her forget his identity and the fact that he was destined to handle mountainous military affairs.
Of the three Imperial Marshals of the Blue Star Empire, the youngest and the most competent was the currently busy Ke Lian. His exceptional role destined him to shuttle back and forth between work and family.
Du Xixi looked at him gently and smiled. She wasn’t someone swept away by romantic sentiments, nor was Ke Lian. They both understood what responsibilities lay upon their shoulders.
Du Xixi would strive to spread Blue Star’s cuisine throughout the empire and, in the future, throughout All-Star, while Ke Lian’s burden was the future of the entire Military Department, concerning the empire’s safety and the safety of the interstellar.
Family is a small home; the nation is a large one. Du Xixi would patiently wait under Ke Lian’s protective wings, wait for him to finish his duties, to accompany her, and to let the cuisine enter the entire Star Era!
