Chapter 31: Chapter 13 Luxury Buddha Jumps Over the Wall (Part 2)

The kitchen in the palace is indeed as Chen Yin said: it’s just a bit larger than an ordinary kitchen outside, with more complete kitchenware and more abundant ingredients.

Du Xixi is currently standing in the spacious and bright kitchen, picking up a kitchen knife from the knife rack and pretending to chop in the air. The blade is sharp, the knife gleaming, and paired with Du Xixi’s calm and confident expression, it’s more like a battle sword on the battlefield than a kitchen knife.

Chen Yin recalls the "majestic" scene of Du Xixi slaughtering a pig with a blink of her eye back in the Blue Star Time. His legs suddenly feel a bit weak.

He almost forgot that his sister isn’t as soft and cute as she appears!

"You must have spent quite a bit of effort preparing these ingredients?" Du Xixi picks up a cucumber, noticing its freshness, and, satisfied, gives Chen Yin a thumbs-up.

She had worried before that she wouldn’t be able to showcase her skills in the Star Era. She didn’t expect Chen Yin to silently gather so many ingredients, and judging by the quantity, Chen Yin probably has quite a stockpile.

Perhaps... she could sneak some back home? Du Xixi glances at Chen Yin, quietly plotting.

Chen Yin instinctively shivers and takes two steps back. Having been tricked by Du Xixi frequently on Blue Star, he knows all too well what that look from her means.

"Xixi..." Chen Yin licks his lips, awkwardly changing the subject, "Do you remember the last time we met?"

Du Xixi glances at him quizzically. Clearly not understanding why he’s bringing this up, but she obediently answers, "On my sixteenth birthday, when you came to my birthday party and took all my New Year’s money, saying it was for an investment, and you’d give me dividends in the future."

The reason Du Xixi remembers it so well is not only because it was the last time they met, but also because the money Chen Yin took was the total of her sixteen years of New Year’s money.

Because there were so many elders, Du Xixi received so much New Year’s money that her hands would tire. Although there were too many to count, it seemed like a huge amount of money in her memory.

Du Xixi looks at Chen Yin with a sigh, "It’s all because I was too young and naive back then, believing Chen Yin’s ’deception’ and investing my New Year’s money in your company."

"Didn’t I give you dividends..."

"Then how many years of dividends did I receive?"

Indeed, Du Xixi did receive dividends, but it was far from Chen Yin’s promise of a lifetime free from worries about food and clothing. She had only received dividends for a few years before she ’suddenly’ found herself swapped into the Star Era by Chen Yin’s soul exchange.

"On a serious note, I want to eat your Buddha Jumps Over the Wall!" Chen Yin huffed and turned his head away, feeling guilty and embarrassed to continue the topic. So once more, he awkwardly changed the subject.

Was it the Blue Star Empire being too underwhelming, or did his memory fail him? Even though Chen Yin had people from the Cultural Relics Bureau learn to cook from the recipes he brought from Blue Star, the dishes always tasted odd. Even the simplest plain rice was as bland as before.

The matter of the Divine Oracle is actually known to some high-ranking officials. Even though Chen Yin experienced it personally, they still found it hard to believe, leading to Du Xixi’s presence in the Imperial Palace.

As long as they truly saw Du Xixi and genuinely appreciated the charm of Blue Star’s cuisine, the authenticity of the Divine Oracle would naturally be believed. Their speculation and doubts about Du Xixi would vanish.

However, Chen Yin had no intention of telling Du Xixi this. He just needed to "persuade" Du Xixi to make the dishes. Then, by secretly letting the officials taste them, everything would be resolved.

All the things that might trouble Du Xixi need not concern her. Chen Yin would shield her from everything, solving the problems on her behalf.

But Du Xixi’s expression turned stranger. At the birthday banquet, there was indeed a luxurious version of Buddha Jumps Over the Wall she made herself. Regardless of the ingredients or the cooking, it was so enticing that one would want to eat it along with their tongues.

But if she remembered correctly, when she brought the Buddha Jumps Over the Wall to the table, was also when Chen Yin tried to entice her to invest her New Year’s money. By the time they finished their discussion, the dish had already been divided up by the elders.

Du Xixi was fortunate to have been dotingly left with a bowl by the grandfathers, whereas Chen Yin, as an ’outsider,’ wasn’t so lucky and could only drool over a small pot with some remaining broth.

Now, Chen Yin brings up Buddha Jumps Over the Wall again. Is it because he never got to taste it at the time, causing him to be so fixated that he still remembers it now?
