Chapter 1455: Chapter 1448: The Wind Rises (6)
Sometimes affinity is such an esoteric thing, especially within a major family. It isn’t about who’s the most outstanding or obedient that renders closeness, but the primary condition is "this kid resembles me". Coincidentally, Lu Weixi also greatly resembles his birth mother, especially now with her youthful and charming demeanor—observing her and Qin Zhiyou together is like rewinding time, returning to the past.
Although it’s regrettable that these two favorite juniors can’t bring joy under his roof, he still doesn’t want any accidents to happen to them. As the trio went out together, Lu’s mother had already set out the food; although she isn’t too fond of Qin Zhiyou, she holds great respect for Grandfather Qin: "I apologize for the modest hospitality, it’s just some light porridge and dishes, I’m not sure if it suits your taste."
In fact, Lu’s mother rarely cooks, and her culinary skills are just passable. When Lu Weixi was young, he had eaten the meals she made. Once the Bai Family started to prosper, the Bai household employed servants. Later, when she fell ill and was hospitalized, cooking became even more unlikely. It was only recently, when she returned home to recuperate, that she had the time to dabble in cooking.
Grandfather Qin, of course, didn’t mind and politely seated himself. The house had only two bedrooms and a living room; an old slab building with dim lighting and mottled walls, the entire house combined was still smaller than a bedroom in the Qin Family mansion. Yet, this tiny room strangely exuded a sense of home and liveliness. Especially when seeing Qin Zhiyou serving soup to Lu Weixi, and Lu Weixi placing his favorite dishes in front of him. Finally, he felt reassured that this grandson had not only thoughtful ideas in work but could be trusted emotionally as well.
After the meal, Lu Weixi took charge of clearing the table, while Qin Zhiyou went to do the dishes. He naturally took the dirty dishes handed over by Lu Weixi without any sign of disdain. While Grandfather Qin was drinking tea on the side, Lu’s mother said, "Elder, there’s something I’d like to trouble you with."
Grandfather Qin nodded: "Go ahead."
"About the children’s remarriage and the pregnancy, please keep it a secret for now. I know the rumors are rife outside, claiming they have separated and divorced. I am not against them being together, but I hope you can keep this secret and not let the Qin Family know they have reconciled, or about the child. If it’s possible to keep it under wraps for a while, it would be best. The serene and smooth life they’re living now is good for Xixi and the baby in her womb. You also know the relationship between Bai Changyou, Cai Yiren, and Xixi. If she were to rashly return to the Qin Family, it might stir up conflicts between the two sides again. The dispute between Bai Changyou and me, I do not wish to drag it down to the next generation."
Lu’s mother brought this up, thinking that perhaps Qin Zhiyou would feel awkward mentioning it to his grandfather. Her feud with Bai Changyou was a thing of the past; they divorced, settled accounts, and she didn’t want to bring up past events. All she cared about now was for her daughter and granddaughter to have a good life.
She didn’t truly believe Bai Changyou would be vile enough to harm her daughter and granddaughter, but inevitably seeing him would provoke annoyance, so it was better to avoid contact altogether and act as strangers to each other.
Grandfather Qin knew this relative very well; in her prime, Lu’s mother was famously defiant, preferring to shatter like jade rather than remain intact like a tile. The divorce with Bai Changyou was extremely ugly, and the loss of Lu Weixi’s first child was somewhat related to her. He nodded his head, realizing it was getting late, he prepared to leave. Before departing, he went to the kitchen to see the young couple washing dishes.
