Chapter 817: Mitosis

Chapter 817: Chapter 817: Mitosis

The Taboo is the presence that all residents in the building fear the most, they have no scruples and even dare to challenge the Divine Spirit. Every time the Taboo appears, at least an entire floor would be offered in a Blood Sacrifice.

The Club K in the chubby kid’s hand changed shape; he never thought the Taboo would appear on his floor.

The Papermen blocking the way were easily torn apart, the Black Fire trampled the toys of the Divine Spirit, and the woman in red moved as if through an uninhabited realm.

"Why are you coming after me? Why does all misfortune have to befall me! I have never done anything!" The child hid behind the Paperman parents, naively; protected by his parents since childhood and later by friends.

In his friend’s deliberate care, he became a delicate flower in a greenhouse. His friend deprived him of the ability to be independent and to endure pain, leaving him only with endless delight and joy.

The boy remained this way until death, never growing up, always crying and wetting himself, always hiding behind others.

A hand tainted with Black Fire pressed down on the Paperman father’s head. The flame mixed with the Curse burned through its body instantly; a tattered, pus-filled heart fell to the ground, very much like the oft-repaired leather ball in the boy’s hand.

"What on earth are you! Get away! Get away!" The boy, wearing pants wet with urine, abandoned his Paperman mother and scrambled away.

The Black Fire burned more vigorously, and the woman followed slowly behind the boy, the curse on her body silently mending the cracks in her sleeves and wailing to tidy her appearance.

...

Han Fei heard the boy’s screams, and not only did he not stop, but he also urged Big Evil to speed up.

The northernmost corridors on the fifty-first floor were plastered with Talismans, making the area seem sealed off.

"Sealing the Taboo is difficult, but releasing it should be quite simple."

The Papermen did not pursue them, and Han Fei let out a long sigh of relief, sliding down from Big Evil’s back, looking at the rows of doors.

In the Deep World, most Talismans and Curse Spells were just there for display; they had no effect on Ghosts and Monsters, serving only as psychological comfort.

Han Fei reached out to tear off a Talisman from the door, but the moment his hand touched the Talisman Paper, his spirit flickered. Turning his head, he saw the light in the corridor become distorted, and the ordinary floor began to tilt; each door seemed like a crying face.

Lightly biting his tongue, the pain failed to clear Han Fei’s mind, his vision blurred, and amidst the haze, he saw a shadow at the end of the corridor.

He couldn’t clearly see the face, nor the clothes the other was wearing, but it gave Han Fei a strangely familiar feeling.

The shadow approached Han Fei, and as he moved, all the Talismans in the corridor seemed to be blown by the night wind, rustling like a rushing river.

"Number Two?"

The shadow waved at Han Fei; unable to approach him, it beckoned Han Fei to come to it.

Forcefully tearing off the Talisman on the door, the world in Han Fei’s eyes did not return to normal; the descent into the Abyss was irreversible.

Other residents in the building would mostly panic and flee at this time, clawing at anything for support, but Han Fei opened his arms and sprinted towards the Abyss.

Talismans were torn away one by one, and Han Fei became confused about whether the floors or the world were tilting.

He moved through the sealed corridor, past all the sealed doors, listening to adults inside telling stories of the night, chanting the names of the New God.

"Is this the power of the Taboo? Making people irresistibly want to approach, to be assimilated, to offer everything in worship."

Behind every door was a home, each home had its own memories. These rooms were like treasure boxes, connecting to form the treasure chest of the Taboo.

Children chattered and laughed, adults wept and quarreled, and death became a wind-up frog, bouncing from room to room.

Tearing off the Talismans, Han Fei chased the shadow, the room doors behind him slowly pushed open, snippets of death memories slipped out from inside.

This Taboo sealed on the fifty-first floor had abilities related to death, capable of collecting the memories of the dead and manifesting them as figments of its imagination.

"Death is the endpoint of life, the place where all Souls set forth. Abilities related to death are terrifying, no wonder the Divine Spirit imprisoned this Taboo."

The shadow that once beckoned Han Fei appeared again, leading him through corner after corner. As the building and world nearly tilted completely, Han Fei saw a unique door.

That door existed at the corner of the world, impossible to hide in any normal floor; invisible from any angle, just like an integer folded between 1 and 2.

"Is this the Safe House that the Dancer mentioned? How absurd!" Han Fei looked around; the floor overhead, the world unconsciously tilted to ninety degrees, and the extraordinary brain constructed a unique structure.

Pushing the door open, Han Fei saw a dusty Shrine.

The Shrine was modest, placed upon a desk, with the Divine Door sealed, the shadow that beckoned Han Fei was the shadow of the Shrine.

"Is it you? Number Two?"

Han Fei saw the Unspeakable power, something beyond his understanding; if it wanted to kill him, he likely wouldn’t even know how he died.

Slowly stepping forward, Han Fei moved beside the Shrine.

The Shrine on the desk was plain, differing from others; besides the Divine Door, it had multiple small windows, all sealed shut.

The windows seemed like the eyes of a Shrine or perhaps the hope of a Divine Spirit. It didn’t like to be confined in a closed space; it wanted windows in its world through which it could see outside.

Eternally curious, never ceasing to think, never halting its forward steps.

The shadow of the Shrine leaned against Han Fei’s shadow; this Shrine was very kind to Han Fei as if it were family.

Ordinary people are afraid when they see ghosts, but a child would only happily embrace a departed loved one.

"I’m here to set you free."

Han Fei reached for the Talisman Paper on the Divine Door. As soon as he touched the Talisman, his body became immobilized.

An unimaginable aura of terror rose from the surface of the Shrine. Han Fei felt as though a pair of eyes were watching him, and if he dared to move even slightly, his soul would scatter.

"Are there unspeakable words written on the Talisman Paper?"

Upon Han Fei touching the Talisman Paper, the things written on it became visible. There were no mystical Spells, only a warning: "Those who dare move it, shall die."

The murderous intent emanating from the Talisman Paper grew increasingly intense; thunder rumbled, and the room swayed like a ship in a typhoon, threatening to break apart at any moment.

The situation was critical, but to Han Fei’s surprise, when the aura of the Divine Spirit appeared, the Blood Shadows within the Blood-colored Orphanage also emerged one by one. The children who had been tortured to death were no longer afraid of anything; not even the Divine Spirit could distort their destinies.

The bloody memories vibrated the chains. In the hysterical laughter, there was added cruelty and sadness. Han Fei stood alongside Kuangxiao before the Shrine.

Unlike the broken Seal on the twenty-fifth floor, the one on the fifty-first floor remained intact. The contents of the Shrine could not come out to help Han Fei, but the shadow of that Shrine seemed not in a hurry. It appeared to have confidently lured Han Fei over.

The standoff persisted for a long while, and eventually, Han Fei noticed the Divine Spirit’s gaze shift away from him.

He initially thought it was Kuangxiao distracting the spirit. Glancing behind him from the corner of his eye, the next moment, he was stunned.

A thousand different Curses crawled across the room. Xu Qin stood at the doorway, holding a boy that looked like a mass of flesh.

They had only been apart for a few days, yet it felt to Han Fei like years had passed. His anxiety dissipated entirely, and a sense of security, akin to the comforting sight of an exit sign, enveloped him.

"Stay still, the Soul you separated out has already shared all your true thoughts with me."

A sharp Dinner Knife stabbed toward the Divine Door, and the thousand Curses, like a pack of starving wolves, engulfed the Shrine.

The gaze from the Divine Spirit silently watched Xu Qin. The Hatred turned into Black Fire, inexplicably burning Xu Qin’s own body, creating large scars on her pale skin and rapidly aging her appearance.

The unspeakable was using the Black Fire on Xu Qin’s body to attack her.

Ordinary hatred might indeed catch her off guard, but Xu Qin, being the Origin of Curse, had never relied on Hatred Black Fire as her true weapon, but rather the Curses!

Enduring the pain of her body being scorched by Black Fire, Xu Qin repeatedly manipulated the Curses to attack the Talisman on the Divine Door.

As the Talisman was eroded by the Curses, thin Destiny Threads began to emerge from the gaps in the Divine Door. The Taboo within the Shrine started cooperating with Xu Qin and attacking together.

The main energy of the unspeakable was focused in reality, and its power in the Deep World was held back by the top-level Night Watchman. Thus, Xu Qin and the Taboo within the Shrine succeeded in removing the Talisman Paper without much delay.

The Divine Door opened, revealing a small gray Brain Fragment to Han Fei.

Different from the previous Brain Fragment Han Fei found, this fragment seemed to relate to death.

"How many Abilities exactly does Child Number Two possess?" Guided by the shadow of the Shrine, Han Fei gently picked up the gray Brain Fragment.

"Attention Player Number 0000! You have acquired a D-level rare Fragment—Brain."

"Brain (D-level Fragment): A Brain Fragment of an unspeakable. You have successfully gained its recognition and can use its associated Ability."

"Death Memory (exclusive ability of the D-level Brain Fragment): Understand death. It allows you to see the memories of all the deceased and can reshape these memories, crafting death into a form you desire."

"Attention Player Number 0000! You have discovered the core Taboo of the fifty-first floor—the shadow of the Shrine. The Shrine before you is but a phantom, a Taboo existence reshaped using Death Memories by Number Two. It has been tainted by Number Two’s Divinity and can transform into a House of Death that only you can see, temporarily helping you escape disaster. You may try to use the Brain Fragment to manipulate it."

With the second Brain Fragment in hand, Han Fei attempted to communicate with the shadow of the Shrine. But unexpectedly, the Soul Transfer ability of the previous Brain Fragment activated once more, and all of Han Fei’s memories regarding his own death were absorbed by the shadow beside the Shrine.

Once those negative and painful memories were absorbed, another chain binding the Blood-colored Orphanage suddenly broke, and the Residual Soul symbolizing Han Fei’s goodwill was also taken by the Shrine’s shadow.

When the Soul of Evil was transferred to the Director with Number Two’s Brain Fragment previously, Han Fei hadn’t thought much of it. However, now that the Soul of Goodness had also been removed, he vaguely inferred what Number Two intended.

"The true goal is my brain’s Blood-colored Orphanage! The Soul of Evil, the Soul of Goodness, and the blank Soul representing childhood are the three chains binding the Blood-colored Orphanage. Once these three chains are broken, the Blood-colored Orphanage will hover over my brain!"

In an instant, the Soul of Goodness had merged with the shadow of the Shrine. The Shrine on the desk and the Safe House slowly dissipated, leaving behind only a shadow identical to Han Fei’s silhouette.

Compared to the Soul of Evil, the Soul of Goodness was silent; it hardly spoke and stood quietly in the most dangerous places, doing the most perilous things, never asking for anything in return.

The Destiny Threads slowly emerged from the Shrine’s shadow, rooting into the floor of the fifty-first floor, constantly extending downward, seemingly to connect with the Soul of Evil’s destiny.

Number Two’s brain had shattered into several Fragments. Yet, once they broke through the Seal, the Destiny Threads would reattach them, allowing the Fragments to share their Abilities.
