Chapter 626: Chapter 626: D-level Shrine Inheritance Task - Fu Sheng
Countless face balloons drifted out from the paradise, the laughter of children echoing through the night, as if the long-silent park had reopened for business tonight.
The painter at the front stopped walking, as the paradise tonight seemed completely different from the last time he had entered.
The wound on his arm started to bleed, and the painter looked back at Han Fei. The change in the paradise began when Han Fei entered.
Words from number four flashed through his mind, the paradise was once built for him alone.
"The paradise has a new master..."
All the buildings surrounding the paradise seemed increasingly twisted, making the entire area feel like a child’s dream where buildings might vanish at any moment, and any peculiar thing could appear the next second.
Black fire burned in the eyes of the three Hatred, and the painter didn’t think the paradise could resist in this situation.
Holding the black blood that flowed from his wound, the painter moved slowly forward. He had reasons he must enter the paradise.
"Be careful around!" Li Zai shouted loudly, while Xu Qin slowly moved next to Han Fei.
With Wei Youfu on the left and Xu Qin on the right, and Big Evil behind him, Han Fei didn’t think the Joker could get through the crowd and hurt him.
"I just saw a Joker near that window, and it seems he can hide all his aura."
"Window?" Zhuang Wen entered the building directly, and moments later, she jumped out from the window: "There’s nothing inside."
"Has he already left?"
"The ghosts in the paradise are very special; each possesses terrifying abilities. This is just the periphery. Once inside the paradise, you’ll see even more horrifying things."
The massive paradise drew closer, and countless balloons in the sky seemed like faces staring at them, the children’s laughter also gradually becoming clearer.
"Here we are, this is it."
The gates of the paradise were open, but as everyone looked inside the paradise, each saw a different scene.
Some saw a mountain of corpses and a sea of blood, lanterns made of skulls, carousels wrapped in human skin, a red Ferris wheel dripping with blood, and roller coasters leading to the Abyss; others saw countless children playing joyously in the park, laughing as if it were the happiest place in the world.
"What do you see?" Wei Youfu wiped his eyes, turning around in disbelief: "Why do I see my father waiting for me in the paradise?"
Everyone gathered at the entrance of the paradise, chattering amongst themselves, only Han Fei stared at the paradise, remaining silent.
He saw a child sitting alone on a swing, back turned to the crowd, in the silent depths of the paradise.
"Is that me?"
Footsteps rang out, and the painter was the first to walk forward, but as he was about to reach the paradise, a black and white Joker appeared at the entrance.
The Joker on the left was entirely white, and the right was completely black, comically advancing with a white children’s toy flag in his left hand and cradling a pitch-black shrine in his right.
The three Hatred were on high alert, the shrine that the Joker held in his right hand was unlike any they had seen before — a complete, undamaged shrine!
"What does this Joker mean? Even a vicious and malicious ghost carries a white flag?" Yinglong blinked his one eye, unable to discern the opponent’s intention.
In front of everyone, the black and white Joker tore his clothes and laid them on the ground.
Placing the shrine on the ground was disrespectful; the Joker seemed crazy, but he still seemed to care about the shrine.
His grin grew wider, and the black and white Joker’s hand grabbed the Divine Door of the shrine, his eyes sweeping over the three Hatred, finally resting on Han Fei.
After confirming something, he started to slowly pull open the Divine Door!
The hovering balloons in the sky continuously burst, stirring up the entire Paradise Area, all buildings started to blur, and the children’s laughter gradually morphed into piercing cries.
The shrine seemed to hide a power that transcended Hatred, and that power was the foundation of the entire paradise.
Black fire ignited on the three Hatred, the blood beneath their feet spreading around, facing the unspeakable power inside the shrine, no one dared to be distracted.
The Joker holding the white flag laughed out loud, enjoying everyone’s expressions, then suddenly flung the doors of the shrine wide open!
The pitch-black interior of the shrine, empty, not even a God Statue inside.
"How is this possible? The most important thing in the paradise was the shrine left by that man! It’s the only complete shrine in this area! It’s where he stored his biggest Memory Fragment!" Seeing the empty shrine, the painter’s numb eyes slowly widened; he felt deceived for decades.
As the Joker laughed heartily, Han Fei felt a hand land on his shoulder.
He turned to look, it was a wooden arm, covered in mold and painted with some special patterns.
Following the direction of the arm, he looked back and saw Han Fei standing behind a masked puppet.
This puppet that everyone had overlooked was also a resident of Happiness Residential Community. After Xu Qin failed the challenge of the Old Building Chief, it, like Xu Qin, was confined in the same room by Old Building Chief Fu Sheng, as though it too was a challenger of the former Building Chief.
After completing the Building Chief’s task, Han Fei had rescued Xu Qin, and, incidentally, had also saved this broken puppet.
This puppet was reportedly brought out of Paradise by Fu Sheng personally more than a decade ago; its main consciousness was severely damaged, making it seem just like a wooden person, silent and uncommunicative, without any presence, not interacting with anyone.
Gradually, everyone started to ignore it, or rather, it seemed to possess an ability that kept it hidden.
Usually, Han Fei rarely took it out, but this time he brought all the neighbors out mainly to focus all efforts on exploring Paradise.
When the Shrine opened earlier, including Hatred, everyone was deterred by that unspeakable, horrifying power, and the puppet took that moment to move behind Han Fei.
"Was all this planned?"
When Han Fei saw the puppet’s hand on his shoulder, an idea flashed through his mind.
Originally, the Old Building Chief might have intentionally locked the puppet and Xu Qin together!
The way Fu Sheng confined the puppet and Xu Qin was very similar; he wanted to create an illusion, making Han Fei mistakenly believe that both the puppet and Xu Qin were people who had failed the Building Chief’s challenge.
At that time, Han Fei had just entered the game, barely surviving the Building Chief’s task, and relaxed from extreme tension. Even if he harbored doubts, he could not truly discover anything.
Because he had too few clues and information in his hands when he first entered the Deep World, the most pressing issue was how to survive.
Countless thoughts flashed through his mind in an instant, but by the time Han Fei’s body responded, it was already too late.
Cracks appeared on the puppet’s body, the decaying heart piled up in its chest fell to the ground, and the mask on its face completely shattered, revealing a face painted with strange patterns.
After the patterns shattered, an unimaginably terrifying aura could no longer be hidden.
The puppet completely disintegrated, and a complete God Statue appeared within the puppet’s body.
The God Statue looked exactly like Fu Sheng. Its eyes slowly opened, and Han Fei felt as if his body was about to be torn apart.
"Player number 0000, please note! You have successfully triggered the D-level Shrine Inheritance Task—Fu Sheng!"
"Fu Sheng (D-level Shrine Inheritance Task): Each completed shrine houses a god. They are unspeakable beings, and it is almost impossible to kill them completely."
"Task requirements: Less than one hundred deaths!"
"Player number 0000, please note! Since your level is far below the minimum level requirement for this task, an additional five tips will be disclosed to you!"
"Tip one: Forget everything to remember everything."
"Tip two: After your one hundredth death, the revived person will no longer be you."
"Tip three: Playing the game you will die, not playing the game you will die faster, please make rational use of the game rewards."
"Tip four: Even the lowest-level D-level Shrine Inheritance Task is far more difficult than an E-level."
"Tip five: Never forget yourself!"
The system’s prompts were too late, Han Fei only heard the words "D-level Shrine Inheritance Task," and all of him was then pulled toward the flawless God Statue.
"Han Fei!"
Someone grabbed Han Fei’s hand, but Han Fei could no longer see clearly.
His consciousness and soul were forcefully pulled into the God Statue; Han Fei felt all his memories being crushed and scattered to every corner of the world.
Just as he was about to forget himself as well, an amulet he carried touched the God Statue.
"He ultimately did not choose me, but he gave you the key to becoming a god. If you do not achieve it, he will be reborn in you, becoming you."
The voice of the Spider emanated from the amulet, nine shadows protected Han Fei’s last bit of memory as it was swallowed along with him by the God Statue.
"Han Fei, never forget yourself!"
...
Opening his eyes, Han Fei blankly stared at the white hospital walls.
His gaze slowly moved; he was lying on a hospital bed, wearing patient attire, his arms and legs restrained.
Seemingly due to having just been administered a sedative, he felt his mind was blank, as if he remembered nothing.
Footsteps sounded, and a middle-aged woman sitting by the door stood up to stop the doctor.
"Doctor Fu, what exactly is wrong with my child?"
"Does your family have a history of psychiatric genetic diseases?"
"Not at all!"
"We now suspect it is amnesia and paranoia triggered by schizophrenia; it’s a difficult illness to cure, and requires good cooperation from the family," the doctor walked into the room, "You must remember, do not provoke him recently, do not support, oppose, or question his delusions outright, and certainly do not try to make him change his mind immediately. We must treat around the subjective suffering caused by his delusional beliefs."
