Chapter 575 Rest Assured and Sleep!

Chapter 575: Chapter 575 Rest Assured and Sleep!

The father, dressed in a suit and carrying his briefcase, was accompanied by his son in a school uniform carrying his backpack, and the somewhat shy daughter-in-law holding her own arm that had just fallen off.

The three of them stood at the school gate, looking at each other.

"How come it’s off again?" Han Fei’s phone had already turned on by itself, showing ninety-nine missed calls, all from Zhang Yu.

Thin threads of rain landed on the screen of the phone. Fu Sheng saw those ninety-nine missed calls too, and his expression turned a bit strange. After a long hesitation, he finally spoke slowly, "Do you owe him money?"

"How could that bastard who is my arch-enemy at the company lend me money?" Han Fei held the phone, preparing to call back.

"Then why did he call you ninety-nine times? He seems very eager and angry, really wanting to have a talk with you." Fu Sheng suddenly thought of a possibility, his gaze towards Han Fei becoming somewhat disappointed, "Didn’t you have something with his wife... "

"Am I that kind of person?!" Han Fei retorted loudly, startling the pedestrians nearby, "You’ll know when I call him back."

After trying to call Zhang Yu several times without success, Han Fei finally gave up, "Nevermind, I won’t hide it from you anymore, your biological mother will probably find us soon."

"But Mom has been dead for many years."

"Your mother has now become Hatred."

Han Fei looked at Fu Sheng very seriously, but Fu Sheng was full of confusion, and the female student next to them stared at Han Fei curiously as well.

"What’s this ghost doing joining in the excitement?!"

Han Fei’s eyes were slightly moist, as if he was about to cry. Through the haze, he clearly saw the girl who had thrown herself from a building; this must be Fu Tian’s Talent Ability of Ghost Eye.

"What’s Hatred?" Fu Sheng and the female student asked, standing side by side looking at Han Fei.

"Normal ghosts do not harm people and are quite weak, just like this girl here." Han Fei casually pointed at the female student, who puffs up her cheeks unhappily, "Then there are ghosts that are really terrifying, they’ve lost all reason, unable to communicate, utterly dominated by hatred and obsessions, lashing out violently at the slightest provocation. I call these kinds of ghosts Hatred."

Han Fei never imagined that one day he would be explaining the classification of ghosts to a Spirit Communicator and a ghost.

"Impossible." After hearing Han Fei’s description, Fu Sheng shook his head, "Someone as gentle as my mother could never become what you call Hatred."

"Fine, don’t believe it if you don’t want to. But you have to promise me one thing," Han Fei sighed.

"What’s that?"

"Tonight when you sleep, don’t shut your bedroom door. I’m a little scared to sleep alone in the living room." Han Fei didn’t think there was anything wrong with that—who wouldn’t feel scared facing Hatred alone?

"Uh..." Fu Sheng felt his father really had changed.

"Besides, you’re in high school now. I’ll buy you a mobile phone, okay? It’ll make it easier to stay in touch." Han Fei searched online for phone shops nearby, ready to head there now.

"Our school doesn’t allow phones. The teachers are worried they’ll affect our grades." Fu Sheng waved his hands, feeling it was completely unnecessary; their home was already in a rough spot, and buying a phone would be too much of a waste.

"Then you just don’t let the teachers find out, right? Remember never to put it on silent, even take it with you into exams if you must. If you get caught, at the worst you’ll get a zero, but if you don’t answer when it’s critical, I could really be gone." Han Fei found the phone shop and was ready to take Fu Sheng there, while the female student stayed at the school gate, seemingly unable to move too far from the school.

"It’s a pity you can’t come back with us," Han Fei approached the girl and, using a secret that touched the depths of the soul, he reattached her previously dangling arm, "I consider myself quite an open-minded father. I don’t oppose early romance, but your relationship must be positive, promoting mutual growth and improvement. A good love can make both parties better."

The female student, having never heard such things, stood dumbfounded in front of Han Fei, a bit at a loss.

"Fu Sheng is a good kid, and so are you. He will be your strength, and you will be his salvation." Han Fei wanted to say more but was firmly dragged away by Fu Sheng, as the onlookers nearby slowly dispersed.

The female student looked at Han Fei’s face, recalling the warm touch on her wrist, and suddenly felt a bit envious of Fu Sheng, wishing she could go home with them.

"How can you say these things in the middle of the street? People will think you’re a weirdo," Fu Sheng whispered, lowering his voice.

"Does a crane among chickens still need to bow and scrape, bending its knees, hunching its back, pretending to be a chicken?" Han Fei and Fu Sheng walked on the sidewalk as cars occasionally passed by, "It’s fine to be modest, but you can’t keep yourself buried in the dust forever; otherwise, your sharpness will rust."

Entering the phone shop, Han Fei let Fu Sheng choose a phone for himself and got him a SIM card.

"Now I’ll be able to contact you at any time." Han Fei entered Fu Sheng’s phone number into his own phone.

Fu Sheng held his cell phone and entered the first number into his blank contact book.

Having written down the number, Fu Sheng began to type in "Fu Yi" for the name, but hesitated for a moment before editing it to "Dad."

"Are you done? Let’s go, back home." Han Fei put away his phone cheerfully, planning to borrow a phone to call Fu Sheng’s number the next time his ex-wife called, to let mother and son talk through the phone.

Fu Sheng’s childhood experiences had made him very sensitive, and he could tell that his father was truly happy now.

Having set up his new phone, Fu Sheng’s mood also seemed to have improved a lot. He silently followed Han Fei, and father and son walked together towards their home.

Arriving at the new home, his wife had already prepared the meal. As soon as Han Fei entered the house, he was greeted by the aroma: "Did you make such a feast because you somehow knew good things would happen today?"

"What good things?" His wife was busy in the kitchen. Hearing Han Fei’s voice, she came out holding a ladle.

"I’ve found a new job, and Fu Sheng went back to school this afternoon."

"Really! Wait a moment, I’ll fry up a couple more dishes!" She dashed back into the kitchen. After changing his clothes and washing his hands, Han Fei also went in to help.

Fu Sheng took his backpack to his room. He had the impulse to close the door, but then he remembered what Han Fei had said before.

The hand ready to shut the door slowly stopped, and he seemed to understand the real reason Han Fei had said that: "How could an adult be afraid of sleeping alone in the living room? He must not want me to keep my door closed anymore."

Looking toward the kitchen, Fu Sheng saw Han Fei and his stepmother busy at work. He felt that this cramped old house gave more of a feeling of home than any place they had lived before.

The dinner was quickly prepared. The family sat around the dining table and his wife thoughtfully opened a can of beer for Han Fei: "Today is really worth celebrating."

"Dad and brother are so amazing!" Fu Tian was the ultimate cheerleader and mood maker. Still young and not understanding the deeper meaning, he simply knew his dad and brother had done something impressive, and it allowed him to enjoy a delicious meal.

"Being a part of your family is truly a happy thing." Han Fei drank his beer and ate the delicious food. His kind wife was full of tenderness, his eldest son had stepped out of his psychological shadow, and his youngest was growing up strong. Everything was developing in a good direction.

"The feeling of home is really nice."

A certain emotion seemed to flow from the bottom of his heart. Han Fei tried to smile, but it wasn’t quite there yet.

Just as he was about to try again, a sudden stabbing pain shot through his brain. Fu Yi’s grimacing face swelled within his skull, possibly out of jealousy and hatred, as if it wanted to burst forth from Han Fei’s body.

His hand resting on his lap under the table clutched tight. Han Fei switched on his master-level acting from within his brain sea. He remained composed, setting the slightly distorted beer can on the table.

"This beer is so cold."

"Just took it out of the fridge. I’ll take it out earlier next time to let it warm up a bit." His wife placed a piece of pork rib into Han Fei’s bowl: "You worked hard today, eat more."

"There’s nothing too hard about it, you all eat more as well."

After a hearty meal, his wife cleared the dishes, Fu Sheng went back to his room to study, and Fu Tian laid beside Han Fei, still wanting to play hide-and-seek with him.

"This room is very small, I’ll definitely find you!"

"I won’t go easy on you!"

Despite the change to a new room, the outcome of the hide-and-seek game was still the same, and the resilient Fu Tian was almost at the brink of tears from the intensity of the play.

Seeing how serious Han Fei and Fu Tian were, his wife thought the two were being silly and childish, but she still couldn’t help smiling.

As night deepened, after his wife had put Fu Tian to bed, she also returned to her own room.

Han Fei laid out the bedding on the living room sofa and placed his phone on the coffee table. Before going to sleep, he couldn’t forget to glance toward Fu Sheng’s room.

Once he made sure Fu Sheng’s door was not closed, only then did he cover himself with the blanket, reassured.

"The living room door is three meters from the sofa, and the sofa is one and a half meters from Fu Sheng’s bedroom. No matter how you calculate it, I’m closer. The advantage is mine, sleep time!"
