Chapter 556: Kidnap the "Bandit
Chapter 556: Chapter 556: Kidnap the "Bandit
Looking at the business card in her hand, Fu Yi’s mother slowly sat down on the staircase steps.
She knew that Fu Yi was not a police officer, so when her daughter said she had been "rescued by a police officer," she knew for sure that the person who saved her daughter wasn’t Fu Yi.
Twisting the business card in her hand, Fu Yi’s mother leaned against the corridor wall and sat outside for a good while.
She didn’t reach for the phone number in the left pocket of her jacket or dial the number on the business card, and after a brief pause, she stood up again.
Wiping her eyes in the darkness, when she returned to the rental home and appeared in front of her daughter, she had once again become that strong and optimistic mother.
"Mom, did you call Dad? It was him, wasn’t it? He’s the one who saved me, right?" Fu Yi looked at her mother with hopeful eyes.
"You mistook someone else for him, that police officer just looks a lot like your father."
Hearing her mother’s response, Fu Yi felt somewhat disappointed, the excitement slowly fading from her eyes as she had thought that her family would also become complete.
"Let’s eat, everything will gradually get better." The mother served food to her daughter, and while feeding her, she noticed that someone had tied up her daughter’s hair, apparently not used to styling a young girl’s hair and doing so clumsily.
"Did the uncle who saved you do your hair?"
"Yes." Fu Yi sounded clearly dejected, her voice low.
The woman sighed softly. How wonderful it would have been if that person really was Fu Yi’s father?
As evening fell, other stories unfolded in the same city.
Han Fei and his family finished their dinner and walked out of the restaurant, choosing not to take a taxi, but to enjoy a rare family walk instead.
His wife was originally going to pick up Fu Tian from school, and wanted to take the opportunity to visit Fu Sheng as well, only to unexpectedly discover that Fu Sheng was not at school, which instantly worried her.
Since Fu Tian was also quite young, she had no choice but to take him around to contact school officials, busy till now. While an adult might manage, the child was already very tired.
At this moment, Fu Tian’s eyelids were drooping, constantly feeling sleepy.
"Eat well and sleep, being a child is nice." Han Fei carried Fu Tian on his back, walking with his wife and Fu Sheng. Unknowingly, he had become the mainstay of the family.
The family had never walked together like this before. Fu Yi was busy indulging in pleasures and earning money. Fu Sheng and Fu Yi had a terrible relationship and didn’t speak a word to each other.
His wife knew about the things Fu Yi was doing outside, but by herself, she couldn’t support the whole family. Outsiders saw her as a happy full-time mother, but in reality, her body and soul were deeply wounded by Fu Yi.
Apart from the oblivious Fu Tian, this family had long since fallen apart, like a shattered mirror that could no longer reflect happiness, only showing a floor covered with broken memories.
Yet, despite these circumstances, Han Fei somehow managed to mend the broken mirror, bringing the family together again.
Han Fei was an orphan. He had never experienced the warmth of a family. Initially, he strived to prevent his girlfriends from killing him, but unknowingly, he also began to feel the warmth of a family.
Just like how, when night falls, home to him felt like a harbor, always allowing him to sleep soundly.
The dim streetlights illuminated the path ahead for the few of them. Han Fei, carrying the sleeping Fu Tian, walked at the forefront, his figure warm and reliable.
"Player number 0000, please note! Your wife’s hatred for you has decreased by one point, accumulating a six-point reduction!"
It might have been because Han Fei found Fu Sheng that his wife’s deep-seated hatred for Han Fei diminished yet again.
Among all women, his wife was the only one who had helped Han Fei; she harbored a deep hatred for Fu Yi, wanted to kill him, yet she also wanted to keep the family together. Now, she was incredibly conflicted.
The feelings these women held for Fu Yi weren’t all alike.
For his wife, it was love for her husband and family; for Du Shu, it was affection for toys; for Li Guo’er, it was admiration for Fu Yi’s abilities and talents; and for an online female acquaintance, it was a search for the paternal love she lacked.
Love comes in various shapes and feelings, and each corresponding "way of dying" isn’t completely the same either.
When he got home, Fu Sheng, carrying his school bag, locked himself in his room again; Han Fei didn’t say much, as their father-son relationship had improved significantly that day.
After putting Fu Tian to bed in the bedroom, Han Fei and his wife left only after Fu Tian had fallen asleep.
After washing up and changing clothes, Han Fei, too, had a busy day and was somewhat tired.
Once everything was in order, Han Fei exited the bathroom and suddenly noticed his wife sitting on the sofa, holding his clothes.
His nerves tensed instantly; Han Fei carefully recounted that there should be no scent of another woman’s perfume on his clothes, nor any marks like lipstick.
"Aren’t you going to sleep yet?" Han Fei walked towards the bedroom, and as he passed by his wife, the silent wife suddenly spoke up.
"Is there something you haven’t told me?"
"Not at all."
"Then why are there bloodstains near the chest and collar area of your shirt, and on the cuffs of your coat?" his wife approached with Han Fei’s clothes in hand. "You also haven’t shown me your medical report recently."
"It’s just the dry weather, a nosebleed," Han Fei didn’t stop walking: "If there were really something, I would tell you, after all, you are my family."
Entering the bedroom, Han Fei took out some bedding from the wardrobe and laid it on the floor. He didn’t feel a significant decline in his physical strength, but he felt dizzy after strenuous activities, a sensation he hadn’t experienced before.
After covering himself with the blanket, Han Fei quickly fell asleep. As his wife’s hatred for him slowly decreased, his guard against her also lowered gradually.
In the dead of night, Han Fei vaguely heard a woman speaking to him in his sleep, but his mind foggy, he couldn’t make out the words.
After a solid night’s sleep, Han Fei was awakened by the alarm, finding himself more sleepy than usual.
Stepping out of the bedroom, Han Fei saw his busy wife; breakfast was already set on the table.
"Thanks for your hard work." Recalling a scene from a TV drama, where a young, diligent wife wearing an apron was making breakfast, Han Fei thought about how he should come up from behind and embrace her, followed by a good morning kiss.
The scene was set perfectly, but in reality, if he actually did that, he’d probably be chopped up with a knife. Whether it was in the Memory World or the Deep World.
"Television is all lies."
Just as Han Fei sat down, the door upstairs was opened, and Fu Sheng walked out carrying his school bag.
"Wait for a moment, I’ve prepared breakfast for you to eat on the go," his wife called out from the kitchen, taking out a homemade lunch box.
He glanced at the lunch box, Fu Sheng paused for a moment, then picked it up and walked out of the room.
Seeing Fu Sheng willing to take the lunch box she had made, his wife was thrilled. As a stepmother, she actually tried hard to gain Fu Sheng’s approval and make up for some past misunderstandings.
"What merits or abilities do I, Fu Yi, the bastard, possess to meet such a wonderful woman?"
Han Fei was very emotional. He hurriedly finished his breakfast and left with his briefcase.
All his female friends’ hatred was diminishing, and life was getting better day by day, but Han Fei’s health was deteriorating daily.
Arriving at the company, Han Fei, in order to complete the Shrine Random Task, acted as if he was injected with a surge of energy, proactively communicating with other departments and checking each subordinate’s work progress.
"The company hasn’t given us much time, this terror love game must be made quickly!" Han Fei knew Du Shu would target him, so to not affect the progress of the game, he could only race against the clock.
"You are not fighting for the company, this game is almost independently produced by us, the company’s share is limited, you are now working hard for yourselves! You are fighting for your own big houses and future!"
"You know, I am very against overtime personally, but given the current popularity of this game, there will definitely be imitators copying us, and you wouldn’t want your hard-thought ideas to be stolen, right?"
"As long as we can preemptively reap the market, and eat the pioneer’s dividends, each of us can get a large sum of money."
"Think about it, we are not working now, but printing money."
Han Fei pulled out data from the marketing department; the game they produced had already stirred a trend in the adult-only realm, the plot alone felt incredibly thrilling, and many players had already begun promoting and advocating it spontaneously on forums and online communities.
The music, plot, ideas, and character design were all top-notch, Han Fei even started thinking about making this game a reality after returning to the real world, as it could make a tidy profit.
"Then I’ll bring Bai Xian and Huang Ying in as shareholders."
As the decision-maker of the group, once Han Fei had laid out the plans, he became the most leisurely person.
He didn’t understand the specifics of game production very well, nor did he dare to interfere; deep down, he felt that in Deep World he was nothing more than the Midnight Butcher.
"I’ll go out and pull in some investments for you guys, don’t slack off these next few days."
After encouraging his employees, Han Fei also found Zhao Qian and, under the pretext of perfecting the game’s music, left the company.
Han Fei didn’t know how much longer his body could hold out, there were some matters he needed to attend to quickly.
Arriving on the second floor of Jinmao Restaurant, Han Fei called Wu Shan, wanting to see Qiangwei.
About half an hour later, a handsome man with long hair, leading four others, entered the private room; they were all players.
"Han Fei, we meet again." Wu Shan greeted Han Fei with a smile, while the others kept straight faces, showing little enthusiasm for Han Fei.
"Did you want to see me for something?" Qiangwei sat down, and only then did the others dare to sit, clearly showing genuine respect for Qiangwei.
"You might have felt it too, nights in this city have been getting more and more chaotic recently." Han Fei poured himself a glass of water; the world’s current state of anomaly was related to Fu Sheng, who was the person closest to the true nature of the world.
"What? Are you feeling the pressure and deciding to join us?" A female player sitting next to Qiangwei looked down on Han Fei—she was Qiangwei’s assistant. Having previously received information from Big Fish, she knew Han Fei had seven wives and was subsisting in this world by being supported by them. No normal woman would show a good face to such a man.
"The pressure is indeed getting greater, but I still don’t plan to join you," Han Fei fiddled with the teacup. "My brother joined you and disappeared after just two hours. You don’t plan on denying this responsibility, do you?"
"Your brother disappeared, and our people also haven’t found him." The female gamer wanted to say something else, but was cut off by Qiangwei.
He stared at Han Fei for a long time before asking a rather odd question, "The person outside the props room that day was you, right? And later, you also saved that entertainment journalist?"
"That’s right," Han Fei knew what Qiangwei was referring to. "I also overheard your conversation with Xia Yilan, knowing that you were investigating Eternal Life Pharmaceutical’s Plastic Surgery Hospital."
Qiangwei’s gaze visibly shifted, seemingly filled with a hint of murderous intent.
"Don’t be nervous, I have something more important to tell you," Han Fei put down the teacup as he spoke with significance. "Actually, we come from the same place and have been burdened with a number since childhood."
When Han Fei finished speaking, Qiangwei suddenly stood up and said to the nearby gamers, "You guys go out first."
The gamers, seeing Qiangwei as their leader, didn’t ask why and simply left the booth.
After closing the door, Qiangwei returned to the dining table with a cold and frightening expression, "The more you know, the faster you die. You understand that simple truth, don’t you?"
"This is the cutest threat I’ve ever heard." Han Fei picked up the chopsticks, and with a casual flick, thirty points of Physical Strength suddenly burst forth, the chopstick grazing Qiangwei’s hair and piercing through the door panel.
If Han Fei had aimed slightly differently, or if he had targeted his eye, Qiangwei might already be a dead body right now.
"I forgot to tell you, my main attribute is Brain Power."
Han Fei acted as if he had done something trivial, leaning down to continue drinking his tea.
Looking at the few strands of hair that had fallen onto the table, Qiangwei’s pupils shrank. He hadn’t expected Han Fei to actually carry out his threat—he truly felt he had just brushed past the God of Death.
"Why are you here exactly?"
"I want to save you. A company like Eternal Life Pharmaceutical backs that Plastic Surgery Hospital. Do you think you and that Inevitable Truth website can stand against it? A mere firefly’s light daring to compete with the bright moon?" Han Fei almost laughed, the disdain and contempt in his eyes making Qiangwei quite uncomfortable.
"You don’t need to worry about these things." Qiangwei stared at Han Fei. "If you don’t want to join us, then forget it, let’s keep out of each other’s way."
"It’s not about me wanting to join you, but rather I’m offering you a chance to join us."
"Us? Are there other players like you around you?" Qiangwei disliked the confidence exuded by Han Fei, who seemed to hold the truth he had been wanting to uncover.
"You do not have the right to know right now. All you need to understand is that in the game, I can lead you out of any Hidden Map, and in reality, I can make the entire Xinhu police force cooperate with me," Han Fei said with a smile, clearly a man of high connections. "Whether it’s Eternal Life Pharmaceutical or Deep Space Technology, their headquarters are all in Xinhu."
Without saying much more, Han Fei got up and walked toward the booth door, "If you want to know the truth, then prove your worth first. The breakthrough at the Plastic Surgery Hospital lies with a woman named Du Shu—behind every profitable business in this city, there are traces of her family."
"So, do you want me and other players to help you find her?" Qiangwei clearly hadn’t grasped Han Fei’s real intention.
"Finding her is only the first step; severing her ties with the hospital is what’s most important," Han Fei opened the door to the booth. "I’ll give you three days to think it over. In three days, I await your answer."
After Han Fei left, Qiangwei carefully pondered over Han Fei’s words, "Cutting her ties with the hospital? Does Han Fei want us to kidnap her to another location?"
Looking at the refined man who’s first suggests kidnapping one of the city’s most powerful women, Qiangwei was quite taken aback.
