My ‘Healing’ Game
Chapter 554: I’ve Been Killed by Her Several Times

Chapter 554: Chapter 554: I’ve Been Killed by Her Several Times

Fu Sheng was the most crucial person in the entire Shrine Memory World. When Han Fei heard that Fu Sheng hadn’t gone to school, he immediately became anxious.

Without any hesitation, Han Fei prepared to rush to the school.

Getting in a taxi, Han Fei also made a call to the property management of the residential community where he lived, hoping to view the surveillance footage of Fu Sheng leaving the community that morning.

The community’s property management was very competent. Upon hearing that Han Fei’s child might be missing, they soon sent over the surveillance footage.

"Your son left the community and then went to the bus station, where he got on the No. 24 bus."

"The No. 24 bus goes straight to the school, so it seems Fu Sheng must have intended to go to school, but why does the school say he hasn’t come to class today?" Han Fei hung up the phone from the property management and began to think from Fu Sheng’s perspective, "Fu Sheng often runs to shelter the sapling, where a body is buried, with an umbrella when it rains. The new principal knows that there is a body buried under the sapling; his guilty conscience definitely cannot allow Fu Sheng at school, so Fu Sheng being bullied could very well be indicated by the principal! No wonder, apart from Liu Lina, the other teachers seemed to be targeting Fu Sheng—that must be the principal’s doing."

Han Fei knew that Fu Sheng had suffered a great deal of injustice at school, being bullied and beaten, and in the end, it was he himself who was criticized and educated.

The new principal was forcing Fu Sheng to leave school for a very simple reason: Fu Sheng had a pair of eyes that could see the truth.

"It was only after the new principal was arrested that Fu Sheng was willing to step out of his home; he’s not ignorant, he just didn’t speak of the trouble he encountered."

Han Fei had a very good impression of Fu Sheng. Although Fu Sheng was indifferent to him, Fu Sheng had won the unanimous liking of those wronged souls.

As the new Building Chief of Happiness Residential Community, Han Fei felt that anyone who could gain the trust of ghosts and monsters must be a person with a gentle and kind heart, like himself, for instance.

"Fu Sheng changed into a new school uniform, and his backpack didn’t seem to have anything strange in it; he must have been planning to go to school."

Han Fei had already paved the way for Fu Sheng; he really couldn’t understand why Fu Sheng hadn’t gone to school.

"Could he have encountered some kind of accident?"

Handing a hundred yuan to the driver, Han Fei asked him to stop the car next to the bus station for a moment while he got out to check the route map of the No. 24 bus.

"Master, please follow the route of the No. 24 bus," he said.

As Han Fei passed each major intersection, he would get out and enter nearby shops to check the morning’s surveillance footage.

His professional tone of speech and the particular aura of authority that made him impossible to refuse showed he was no ordinary person—he must be at least a frontline officer with more than three years of duty experience.

Following the trail, at a bookstore two stops away from the school, Han Fei finally found a clue.

"Please pause the footage for a moment," the well-dressed Han Fei said to the bookstore’s staff.

The young man was completely intimidated by Han Fei. Although Han Fei had never mentioned he was a police officer, the aura he exuded and every minute expression seemed to say—I am a cop, I am doing something very important, please cooperate well with me, don’t waste my time.

Pointing at the black-and-white surveillance screen, Han Fei’s gaze was fixed on a student in the footage like a hawk spotting its prey.

"Fu Sheng got off here!"

In the surveillance footage, Fu Sheng seemed to be attracted by something; looking closely, one could see that his hand seemed to be holding that of another nonexistent person.

"Sir, is there anything else you’d like to ask?" The staff member was very nervous, as this was his first time encountering such a situation.

"Has anyone ever died around here?" Han Fei turned to look at the staff member, who could never have expected Han Fei to ask such a terrifying question right off the bat, and shook his head repeatedly.

"No? Then whose hand was he holding?" Han Fei used the bus seat as a reference and tried to make a comparison, "Fu Sheng must have gotten off the bus holding the hand of a child, an invisible child."

"Shall I call the Shop Manager over? He’s lived in this area for decades and is a local." The staff member felt a great pressure standing next to Han Fei and left as if fleeing the scene.

It wasn’t long before a middle-aged man in his forties arrived. He sized up Han Fei from head to toe and came to the same conclusion as the staff member—The man before him must be an undercover officer.

"My home is on this street, and I’ve never heard of any unfortunate incidents happening here." The middle-aged Shop Manager furrowed his brows in thought.

"No one has ever died on this street? The deceased would be about this tall and probably still a child, known to ride the public bus." Han Fei gestured with his hand to indicate the height.

The Shop Manager had never heard such a strange description, and after thinking for a while, he said, "About ten years ago, a small restaurant caught fire. The young couple running it perished in the blaze. Before they died, they managed to push open the door and thrust their child towards a relatively safer place. Later on, their child was taken to the hospital, but ultimately failed to be saved. I’ve lived here for nearly thirty years, and I think that’s the only child-size casualty we had."

"Parents perished in the fire, and the boy died in the hospital, maybe he’s always wanted to come back and be reunited with his parents." Han Fei murmured to himself, while the Shop Manager beside him didn’t dare to speak and just mumbled to himself, this detective’s line of reasoning is very Underworld-like.

Han Fei looked at the route map of the No. 24 bus again, which conveniently passed by that very hospital.

"After his death, the boy has always wanted to go home but couldn’t find the way, so Fu Sheng helped him return, reuniting him with his parents?"

Han Fei looked at the middle-aged Shop Manager again, "Where is that restaurant that caught fire? Can you take me there to have a look?"

"It was built deep inside the street, and now it has been converted into a small hostel. Due to its remote location and the fact that it was once the scene of an incident, the lodging prices are exceptionally low, making it suitable for poor people coming to the city in search of work." The Shop Manager led Han Fei through the alleyway behind the bookstore, the deeper they went, the more ominous it felt.

The sun was now almost setting, and the light was dimming, Han Fei felt the streets begin to twist slowly.

The night and day in this city are two different worlds.

The noise around him slowly vanished, and it became very quiet. Han Fei’s gaze gradually moved away from the middle-aged Shop Manager and turned to other places.

Ever since they entered the alley, an ominous premonition had crept into his heart, and he felt extremely uncomfortable as if something particularly terrifying was lurking in the midst of the alley.

After sending a message to his wife, Han Fei quickened his pace, following the middle-aged Shop Manager to the deepest part of the alley.

In front of them was a four-story building painted white, which, from the outside, looked very neat, with all traces of the fire having been erased.

"There are no surveillance cameras inside the alley, and I can’t be sure whether Fu Sheng really came in." Han Fei stopped in front of the white hostel, looking up, his pupils suddenly shrank.

The window of a room on the fourth floor of the hostel was open; a little girl almost stuck out half of her body from the frame as she desperately reached for the derelict air conditioner unit outside the window.

The girl’s movements were awkward, as if she had a leg disability, and she struggled to move her body and continuously reached forward with her hands.

It was already dark, and Han Fei took a long time to notice a wounded stray cat curled up on the broken air conditioner unit outside.

The girl seemed to want to pull the cat into the room, but she was always just a bit short of touching it. Intent on saving the stray cat, she supported her body with one hand while stretching out the other towards the cat with all her might.

Just as she was about to grab the cat, the injured stray might have thought the girl was going to hurt it, lashed out violently, and swiped at the girl’s hand.

The little girl was startled by the stray cat, and she lost her balance as she pressed against the windowsill, tumbling outwards.

"No good!"

Han Fei yelled as he extended his arms forward.

The girl’s leg muscles were atrophied; she couldn’t keep her balance. Just as she was about to fall from the building, her hands grabbed onto the already broken air conditioner unit outside the window.

In the glow of the streetlamp, her body appeared like a white sail about to be torn to shreds.

"Hold on!"

Without a second of hesitation, Han Fei rushed into the inn.

"Are you staying overnight, or do you need a room for a few hours? Hey! Don’t rush inside like that!" The inn’s front desk tried to stop Han Fei, but he was too fast. By the time the front desk clerk reacted, Han Fei had already dashed to the second floor.

He didn’t know how long the girl could hold on, so he had to move fast!

"Bang!"

Kicking open the wooden door of a room on the fourth floor, Han Fei stepped over the luggage and quilts on the floor and lunged towards the window: "Whatever you do, don’t let go!"

Hearing Han Fei’s voice, the girl, who was on the verge of losing her grip, slowly lifted her head. When she saw Han Fei, he too got a clear look at the girl’s face.

His heart seemed to skip a beat, and a fear indescribable wrapped around Han Fei, as a terrifying memory he could never forget resurfaced in his mind!

He had seen this girl before!

When he was first carrying out his task as Building Chief Manager, every time he opened the door, the head of a girl would fall down from the door frame (see Chapter 92).

That head looked exactly like the girl he was looking at right now!

The Building Chief Manager task was the first time Han Fei entered Fu Sheng’s memory, where Fu Sheng’s father had died, and his home was occupied by countless wronged ghosts.

Those wronged ghosts included the little girl in front of him; her head was hung on the door frame, and the first thing one had to face to enter Fu Sheng’s home was her.

During the Building Chief Manager task, Han Fei died more than forty times, and on several occasions, it was this girl who killed him.

Han Fei’s movements slowed. The Building Chief Manager task was one of the most difficult tasks he had faced early on. More than forty deaths, each one stripping away a part of his memory, that pain had become a deep shadow in his heart.

"To save her, or not to save her?"

In the Building Chief Manager task, the girl was dismembered, her head hidden above the house door; the girl’s mother was also killed, with her body hidden throughout the house.

Based on Han Fei’s speculation, the one behind all this was none other than Fu Yi.

In reality, it was very possible that Fu Yi had killed the mother and daughter. This insane act might be the real reason that plunged Fu Sheng’s family into the abyss.

"If I don’t save her, would her death have nothing to do with Fu Yi? Would that count as changing fate?"

Han Fei now didn’t know what the relation between Fu Yi and the girl in front of him was. The situation was gradually improving, everything was getting back on track, but just at this moment, the girl suddenly appeared, presenting him with such a choice.

The girl’s hands were gradually losing strength, her pale fingers slowly loosening, that helpless face looking so pitiful.

Slipping down, the girl could no longer hold on, and just as her last finger let go, another hand stretched out from the window and firmly grasped her wrist.

Looking up, the girl gazed at Han Fei’s face and whispered softly, "Daddy..."

With a strong pull, Han Fei yanked the girl back in through the window. He held the scared girl, setting her down on the ground.

Then, without lingering, he stepped on the window frame and reached out for the injured stray cat.

The usually fierce stray cat became much more docile upon seeing Han Fei, and its body stopped shaking.

Holding the stray cat by the nape of the neck, Han Fei also brought it into the room, then finally closed the window.

"You must never do something this dangerous again," Han Fei stared at the girl, slowly realizing there was an issue. The girl seemed to have a congenital disease, her legs were weak, and she couldn’t even walk on her own.

"Mhm," the girl murmured in agreement, her head bowed, her voice as low as a mosquito’s.

"I’ll take this cat to the pet hospital for you, you should rest well at home."

The inn wasn’t large, with just a living room and a bathroom, with the bed placed in a corner of the living room, and a cooling mat spread on the floor.

Han Fei carried the girl to the bed and fluffed the quilt for her, "Where are your parents?"

"I live with my mom, she went out to look for work this afternoon." The girl didn’t mention her father, and kept her head down the whole time, showing a very shy and introverted personality.

"Is it just you and your mom living in this room?" Han Fei glanced at the unwashed dishes on the small wooden table, then at a bank card on the table and an envelope stuck in some high school tutoring materials.

His expression grew increasingly strange; the envelope couldn’t be sealed because it was stuffed with cash.

By all appearances, this family seemed very poor; they shouldn’t be so careless as to leave so much cash on the dining table.

"Did someone come to see you today?" Han Fei crouched beside the girl’s bed, asking patiently.

"A big brother in a school uniform came. He is a very kind person and wants to treat my disease, but my mom didn’t take his money." The girl was of an age to be in elementary school, but due to her disease, she could only stay at home, right between the ages of Fu Tian and Fu Sheng.

"A big brother in a school uniform?" Han Fei asked the girl to describe him in more detail, and he was certain that student was Fu Sheng!

"Did Fu Sheng, with the help of the Little Ghost, learn about some things? So he came here early, trying to make amends?" Han Fei connected all the dots and pondered. He felt that the girl in front of him might be a key figure in influencing the direction of Memory World.

"Child, can you tell Uncle what your name is?" Han Fei tried to appear as gentle as possible, "I want to help you too."

"My name is Fu Yi," the girl looked up at Han Fei, "Memory’s Yi."
