Chapter 543: A Tailor-Made Hidden Profession? (5000)

Chapter 543: Chapter 543: A Tailor-Made Hidden Profession? (5000)

The campus in the rainy night was completely different from the daytime, devoid of hustle and bustle, wrapped in a thin mist, even the outlines of the buildings seemed to soften a bit.

Han Fei followed the middle-aged man forward. This was the first Shrine Random Task he had triggered, and it was also the beginning of everything that would change, so he was extremely cautious.

"The school didn’t seem to be like this in the past, and this man seems to be happy about the changes happening within the school."

After walking for about fifteen minutes, the middle-aged man stopped at the entrance of Senior Three Class Four. He stood at the back door of the classroom, observing the situation inside through the glass window, his not-so-large eyes now exceedingly sharp.

His gaze swept over the empty desks one by one, finally resting on the lecturer’s podium, as if he were worried about the teacher’s performance.

The middle-aged man had a stern look in his eyes; it seemed like he saw something in the empty classroom.

A few minutes later, the middle-aged man finally withdrew his gaze. He appeared to be quite satisfied with the teacher’s performance and quietly left.

As he walked up the stairs, the temperature around him grew colder, and Han Fei’s mood score dropped slightly.

He felt that something was wrong, slowed down his pace, and hesitated a moment, "There are ghosts in this school besides the middle-aged man and female students, there are other things as well!"

Seeing that the middle-aged man did not stop, Han Fei had no choice but to keep following him to complete the mission.

Third floor, fourth floor, the middle-aged man eventually stopped on the staircase leading to the rooftop on the fifth floor.

Under the shelter that protected against the rain on the rooftop stood four male students with pale faces and partial deformities. They took off their school uniforms and sat on top, with cigarette butts scattered on the steps.

When the middle-aged man approached, the four students immediately stood up straight. They had previously acted as if they didn’t care about anything, weren’t afraid of anything, but they were very submissive in front of the middle-aged man.

The man walked up to the four of them and said a lot to them. Han Fei, standing back, couldn’t hear clearly. He only saw that although the middle-aged man spoke sternly, his eyes were filled with sympathy. He seemed to know what had happened to these four kids and kept urging them.

Soon, three of the male students lowered their heads, and one of them began to cry.

It was apparent that the four students were not just afraid of the middle-aged man; it was as if they all regarded him as a family member.

Even when they had given up on themselves, there was a stranger who was always paying attention to them, teaching them again and again, willing to communicate with them, holding hopes for them.

Wiping away their tears, the four students ran past Han Fei and returned to different classrooms, disappearing from sight.

The middle-aged man slowly turned around after seeing the children return to the classrooms. He closed the door leading to the rooftop and exited the teaching building.

"Those four students were also ghosts, but how did they die?"

After walking out of the teaching building, the middle-aged man saw the newly constructed office building. He looked at the imposing office building with a slight frown on his face and walked forward without saying a word.

Strangely though, when the middle-aged man reached the entrance of the office building, he seemed to be blocked by an invisible wall and couldn’t enter the building.

"Why can’t he enter the office building?"

Han Fei quickened his pace; it seemed that the invisible wall was only against ghosts, while living people could enter freely.

"Do nothing guilty and you shall not fear ghostly rappings. The middle-aged man’s patrol of the campus softened even the raindrops, and every dead soul of the students calmed down. Such a warm soul, yet barred from the office building?"

Looking around, Han Fei spotted several large black flower pots at the entrance of the office building, with plastic fake trees planted in them.

"Are these fake trees placed here to welcome guests?"

The middle-aged man outside the office building became increasingly agitated when he was unable to enter. He started to repeatedly collide against the invisible wall.

"Don’t worry, I’ll take a look for you."

Han Fei had been to the office building once before. He remembered that there were many fake trees placed there for no apparent reason, and he had thought at the time that the school wanted to add more greenery inside.

Walking up to the flower pot, Han Fei rummaged through it for a long time before finding a small red cloth pouch under the fake tree.

It was only the size of a thumb and contained a congealed black substance.

After opening the pouch, a faint stench wafted out, and Han Fei, drawing on his years of experience, determined that it contained a small piece of rotting human skin.

"Can this thing really keep ghosts and monsters at bay? Whose skin is this?"

The foul, terrifying object that would normally repel anyone appeared to Han Fei as if it were a treasure.

"If it really can keep the ghosts and monsters at bay, then when the faceless woman chases me again, I can completely throw it in her face."

As he searched through one flower pot after another, Han Fei ran to the side door of the office building and found a second red cloth pouch.

After he collected the two red pouches, the middle-aged man finally succeeded in entering the teaching building, and for the first time, he looked at Han Fei with a calm gaze that held a trace of gratitude.

"I definitely need to get on good terms with such a polite ghost."

Han Fei followed the middle-aged man upstairs. The patient and good-tempered middle-aged man’s expression slowly twisted, and patches of livor mortis quietly emerged as he stared fiercely at the fourth-floor offices, like a fierce ghost out to claim lives.

His water-soaked hand caressed the immaculate wall, eventually stopping at the door of the archive room. He wanted to enter, but each touch on the door caused him to display an extremely pained expression, and his body began to dim.

"I’ll do it."

Han Fei took off his coat, covered the cameras on the fourth floor, then stood by the window and looked outside.

Even if the security guard were constantly watching the monitor without falling asleep, it would probably take them eight minutes to run over, and that was enough time.

"Brother, I’ve learned how to unlock," Han Fei remembered the contents of the unlocking skill book from Huang Ying, but it was only when he got to the door that he remembered he couldn’t open his item bar to get the wire and crowbar.

After an awkward chuckle, Han Fei aimed at the door lock of the archive room and delivered a kick!

"Bang!"

The door lock fell off, and the door itself slammed against the wall.

The huge vibration also shook loose a small red cloth pouch that was hidden on the frame.

Han Fei picked up the pouch and put it away, then gestured for the middle-aged man to enter with a "please" motion.

Looking at the kicked-open door, the middle-aged man recalled Han Fei’s words and couldn’t help looking at him a few more times before entering the archive room.

"I must have made a pretty good impression on him."

The middle-aged man walked all the way to the back of the archive room, stopping beside a particular cabinet.

"Are you looking for something in this cabinet?"

Han Fei once again demonstrated his "unlocking" prowess by opening the cabinet door; he began to peruse the files and documents inside, most of which were quite ordinary.

If it hadn’t been for the middle-aged man’s refusal to leave, Han Fei might have given up.

He searched for a long time, and when he picked up a file that looked no different from the others, the middle-aged man’s face suddenly contorted violently, startling Han Fei as well.

The endlessly kind-faced man suddenly seemed as though he was about to devour someone.

Han Fei quickly opened the file; the first few pages were still very ordinary documents. But as he read further, Han Fei gradually realized something was amiss.

The private high school’s predecessor was Xinhu City Special Education School, which mainly educated and assisted children with hearing impairments, intellectual disabilities, autism, Asperger syndrome, mild cerebral palsy, and mild physical disabilities. The principal of the school was named Liu Yumin, who was the middle-aged man standing next to Han Fei.

Later, the school stopped operating for various reasons, and plans were underway to expand it into a private high school.

Liu Yumin ran around advocating, hoping to provide a place for disabled children’s education, urging society not to regard them as a burden.

His call resonated with many parents, and just as his influence began to grow, married Liu Yumin was exposed for having a special relationship with a female teacher at the school. Many newspapers published ambiguous photos of Liu Yumin and the teacher, such as standing very close to each other, leaving the school late at night together, and driving away in the same car.

Liu Yumin could not justify himself, and the woman did not come forward to refute the claims, and later Liu Yumin disappeared from the city.

There were those who said he died of shame and committed suicide by jumping into the river, and others who said he was a coward who abandoned his wife and daughter to flee to another city.

The once highly respected principal, Liu Yumin, whom parents of disabled children saw as the only person they could trust, had now become a cheater whom everyone felt entitled to step on.

Insulting a wrongdoer lacks interest, but there seems to be more pleasure in defiling someone who once served as a role model.

Liu Yumin’s wife, who had been in poor health, passed away amidst the suppression and pain, and his daughter, Liu Lina, enduring the scorn and gossip of others, not only became a teacher herself, but she also went to work at the school where her father had been involved in the scandal.

She worked extremely hard and performed excellently, always being recognized as the most popular teacher in the school. Perhaps she sought to cleanse her father of the disgrace imprinted on him by others in this way.

"You must have been framed by those people; they slandered you first for cheating and then killed you, making you stink for thousands of years even after death," Han Fei put away the file, staring at the middle-aged man, "You are a good person, and I can help you clear your name."

When Han Fei found out the middle-aged man was Teacher Liu’s father, he felt somewhat afraid.

Considering Teacher Liu’s deep hatred for infidelity, it was no wonder she now wanted to kill Fu Yi. Putting himself in her shoes, Han Fei felt like killing himself.

"If you’ve made a mistake, you have to make amends. I’ll first find a way to restore your innocence."

After hearing Han Fei’s words, the middle-aged man turned and walked towards the principal’s office.

Under the guidance of the middle-aged man, Han Fei opened a hidden compartment behind the bookshelf and retrieved a USB drive and several photos.

The photos were sneakily taken from afar, on a rainy night, of two people in black raincoats digging a hole behind the bushes on the playground, and then throwing something into the pit.

"It seems the new principal kept a backup plan. Was he worried he might end up like you someday?"

Recalling the old man during the daytime who only knew how to play peacemaker, Han Fei’s lips curled with a cold smile, "Keeping silent about crimes, deliberately hiding the murderer, makes you an accomplice. You bullied my child, now I’ll have you all locked up."

Glancing out the window, with no one coming in the dark night, Han Fei, eager to complete the task, directly turned on the principal’s office computer and inserted the USB drive.

There were several videos inside, all secretly recorded.

The first few showed Liu Yumin in the decrepit principal’s office, arguing with several people inside, who were persuading him to cooperate and quickly get rid of the disabled children. The usually gentle Liu Yumin banged the table, demanding that the lot of them get out.

The following sections of the videos were more disturbing, showing people paying a hefty sum for a young female teacher at the school to slander Liu Yumin, moving close to him in public places and making affectionate gestures.

The special school had many issues and a large workload, but not enough staff, which meant Liu Yumin often worked late into the night.

The conspirators instructed the female teacher to wait in the school for Liu Yumin, so they could leave together.

The whole thing was a setup, simple yet effective.

"An innocent man was slandered, and now I, a bastard who’s done it all, will help him clear his name. Perhaps this is also a form of atonement."

With the evidence in hand, Han Fei did not linger. He retrieved the USB drive and his coat, cleared the remaining water trails, packed up his things, and left.

"The Shrine Random Task is not yet complete, it seems I need to thoroughly help the old principal clear his name. What is the right thing to do? What I am doing now should be the right thing."

After Han Fei went downstairs, a woman stepped out, took off her coat, and meticulously wiped away the remaining shoeprints left on the ground.

Han Fei scaled the wall to leave the school, holding his umbrella, frowning in thought, "Fu Yi is a playboy, and coming from him, revealing the truth won’t have much credibility. People love to see others through colored lenses. If I really want to help the former principal, the best way is to tell everything to Teacher Liu, letting her vindicate her father."

"If the principal comes into work tomorrow and notices things are missing, he’ll surely try to move the body, and that would complicate things."

It’s better to do less than more, Han Fei also wants to finish the task as soon as possible. Without the Rebirth Saber, he feels completely insecure.

After pondering for a moment, Han Fei took out his phone and dialed Teacher Liu’s number.

It rang a dozen times before the call was picked up, and Teacher Liu’s icy voice came through, "Fu Yi, what do you want from me at this time? You couldn’t have been thrown out by your wife and now have nowhere to go, so you thought you’d turn to me?"

"Can we meet? I know your father was wrongfully accused. I’ve got the evidence, and I’ve found where his body is buried."

After Han Fei finished speaking, there was no sound from the phone for a long time until Teacher Liu finally said, "You’ve lied to me too many times. If you’re using my father’s case to deceive me this time, I will kill you myself."

"Let’s not go to your home. Come to the internet café near the school."

"Alright, I’ll be there soon."

Half an hour later, Han Fei saw Teacher Liu at the entrance of the internet café. She was dressed in sportswear and carrying that bulging backpack.

Han Fei waved to Teacher Liu, "Did you bring your ID? They won’t let me on the computer."

"You, who go around staying in hotels, wouldn’t leave home without your ID?" Teacher Liu didn’t believe Han Fei in the slightest. She entered the internet café and found a secluded spot to boot up a computer.

"It’s all on the USB drive, take a look for yourself. I had a hard time getting it," Han Fei handed the USB drive to Teacher Liu and also took out several blurred photos.

Teacher Liu opened the videos that were secretly recorded. As she watched, her hands clenched involuntarily; her eyes became swollen, and tears slid down her cheeks.

Her father hadn’t done anything to wrong her or her mother, he was a noble and upstanding man, always committed to doing the right thing, but everyone thought he was a man who had made a mistake.

The hidden truth surfaced. Teacher Liu stared at the screen, her jaw clenched, tears streaming down her face.

She watched the videos over and over again until finally, she looked down at the blurred photos.

The spot where Liu Yumin had been buried had not yet sprouted weeds, but now a small sapling was growing there.

Han Fei bought a pack of tissues and placed it beside Teacher Liu; he then took out paper and pen to write down the process in detail for guiding the police to the scene and organized the evidence, completing the chain and examples of logic.

"Go to the police first thing at dawn, take this stuff, and do as I’ve told you, and you’ll definitely clear your father’s name. Those who killed your dad won’t escape."

Teacher Liu collapsed onto the keyboard, all the grievances of many years bursting forth.

Han Fei stood by, worried Teacher Liu might have some health issues, so he didn’t leave but also didn’t get too close.

After crying for a long time, Teacher Liu collected the USB drive and photos, picked up her bulging backpack, and walked towards the exit.

Just as she was about to leave the internet café, she looked back at Han Fei, seemingly wanting to say something but ultimately didn’t speak. She quickened her pace and ran into the rainy night.

"Player number 0000 please pay attention! Liu Lina’s hatred for you has decreased by five points."

The matter of her father had always been an obsession in Teacher Liu’s heart. On this day, she finally found the truth she had been desperately seeking, but what she hadn’t expected was that the truth would come from the person she hated the most.

"Player number 0000 please pay attention! You once again meet the requirements for the Hidden Profession Pretty Man; after actively decreasing the amicability of three Fierce Ghosts and making them favor you again, do you want to start the Pretty Man Hidden Profession quest?"

"No!"

"No! I’m not interested in dating! And I especially dislike being a Playboy! Especially after completing this Shrine Inheritance Task! Whoever cheats, I’ll cut them down!"

"Player number 0000 please pay attention! You have refused the Pretty Man Hidden Profession quest three times. Congratulations, you have obtained the special title ’Love and Hate.’"

Seeing the system notification, Han Fei’s eyes nearly popped out: "A master at toying with feelings? I’m just trying to survive! How did you figure I’m enjoying this sensation?!"
