Chapter 542: Chapter 542: The First Shrine Random Task (4000)
It seemed that due to a poor signal, Han Fei’s phone suddenly went silent, his wife’s voice no longer there.
"Hello? Are you still there?"
"Fu Yi, our son is just taking a long leave at home, unwilling to go to school, did you directly arrange a transfer for him?"
There was a hint of shock in his wife’s voice, as she heard for the first time that a student’s fight had led to a parent beating up the principal. Not to mention putting that into practice, many people wouldn’t even dare to think about it.
"That principal is very bad, definitely taking money for favors. We’re better off not attending that broken school." Han Fei had obtained evidence of the group bullying Fu Sheng, and he was even preparing to investigate the school, so it was better for Fu Sheng to stay away from there.
As she heard Han Fei so protective of Fu Sheng, his wife was worried but felt inside that Han Fei had truly changed.
In the past, he only cared about his work and himself, but now Han Fei seemed to be wholly focused on the family.
"Then... you didn’t hurt the principal too bad, right?"
"Just superficial injuries, let me tell you, this is nothing compared to punishment, I will make them regret it sooner or later," Han Fei said fiercely.
"Please don’t do anything rash." His wife noticed that her husband had indeed changed. Before, her husband had not cared about home at all, as if the place was just a hotel he stayed in for a longer time, but now her husband was really trying hard to protect every member of the family.
"Don’t worry, I seldom do things I’m not sure about." Han Fei hung up the phone and walked downstairs.
After he had gone far, Teacher Liu emerged from around the corner of the hallway. Clutching her backpack, her eyes showed pain and distortion, "Which of your faces is real? The you from before was nothing but lies, selfish and a bastard, you didn’t even care about your own family, even pushing all your faults onto them. But why are you showing this side now? You obviously love your child so much, you become so angry."
Teacher Liu’s fingers dug into her bag as if through the material she had grabbed hold of something.
In the shadows on the other side of the hallway, Han Fei leaned back against the wall; he had heard everything Teacher Liu had said.
Just now, in the principal’s office, Teacher Liu had taken the initiative to bring up the video and allowed Han Fei to copy it, which made him somewhat thankful to her.
"A pretty good girl, would have been perfect if she hadn’t been so set on wanting me dead."
Han Fei left the office building and when he arrived at the entrance of the school building, to his surprise, he saw that girl in the school uniform again. She seemed to have sensed a familiar aura on Han Fei, and that’s why she appeared specifically as Han Fei passed by.
"Are you waiting for Fu Sheng? I’m his father, I agree to your marriage, could you come home with me and help me persuade him?"
Han Fei used his Word Spirit Ability this time, but when he walked over, the girl still disappeared from sight.
"Did I do this too hastily?" Han Fei approached the spot where the girl had vanished. On the clean steps lay a crumpled note, depicting two little figures sitting on the steps eating, and on the other side were a few words, hastily scrawled – Is he alright? Don’t let him suffer.
"He? Is he referring to Fu Sheng?" Han Fei didn’t expect the girl to hope that he would help Fu Sheng, but it also showed that Fu Sheng had a good relationship with the ghost and monsters. The child had always been bullied but was treated gently by the ghost.
After seeing this, Han Fei’s heart became even more puzzled, why would Fu Sheng, who had such experiences, want to destroy the Deep World?
"Am I currently experiencing the memories of Fu Sheng’s student days? Could it be that after Fu Sheng grew up, he went through other things?"
The Black Box had two sides representing destruction and redemption. The person with the Black Box had to follow their heart in making a choice, meaning Fu Sheng’s heart leaned more towards destruction.
"Did the Mortal World retain anything he cherished? But why do my memories of him have not a trace of anything good, and everything about him has been erased by the Mortal World, with no one remembering his existence." Han Fei felt that Fu Sheng couldn’t be simply judged as a good or bad person.
Zheng Zhong carefully put away the note, and Han Fei shouted toward the empty space behind him, "My son Fu Sheng is destined to be a Big Shot who will save the world. Classmate, once you miss this village, there won’t be such a shop again."
The female student did not reappear, and Han Fei sat in place for a long time before finally giving up.
"It seems their friendship is purely platonic."
Han Fei didn’t go back to the company but took a taxi directly home.
After running around all day, Han Fei was quite tired. He hadn’t even entered his house when he smelled the fragrance of the food coming from inside.
When Fu Tian heard his footsteps, he ran over to open the door for him, saving him the need to knock.
"Were you guys waiting for me?"
As Han Fei entered the house, he found his wife had prepared a very sumptuous meal, and neither she nor the child had started eating.
His wife in the kitchen didn’t seem very enthusiastic and still had the same demeanor as before, but Han Fei already felt a clear change in her.
"Let’s wash our hands and eat, you’ve worked hard today." His wife put the last dish on the table, and she also prepared a tray especially for Fu Sheng.
"I’ve had too little interaction with Fu Sheng before, and the kid has suffered a great deal at school." Han Fei took the tray from his wife’s hands, "Home should be a place that gives him strength, but I’ve been dragging him down. I haven’t fulfilled my duties as a father, but I will find a way to make up for it. I owe this family too much."
Picking up the food on the tray, Han Fei headed upstairs.
He gently knocked on the door, and this time, Fu Sheng inside the room did not react too dramatically.
Han Fei placed the tray at the door, took out the small note from his pocket, and spoke softly toward the bedroom door, "The girl on the staircase of the teaching building is very worried about you. She wrote you a sentence, and if you have anything you want to say, I can pass the message to her for you."
He slid the note slowly through the crack of the door and then walked away.
"Let’s eat first." Han Fei was already accustomed to Fu Sheng shutting himself in like this, and he was prepared for a prolonged effort.
Downstairs, sitting with his wife and Fu Tian, Han Fei didn’t bring any negative emotions from outside back home. His face always wore a smile, making this family no longer suppressed.
A father plays a very important role in a family. A good father can support the sky for all family members, bringing strength to his wife and children.
After dinner, Han Fei asked Fu Tian about his day in kindergarten, and afterward, they sat in the living room watching TV as usual.
At around nine o’clock in the evening, after his wife had put Fu Tian to sleep, Han Fei turned off the living room lights and signaled his wife to come to the bedroom.
"Let’s discuss Fu Sheng transferring schools," Han Fei took out his phone, he had noted down information on the schools he had found, "With so many schools, there must be one that’s right for him."
"Do we really need to transfer schools? I think it’s better to ask for Fu Sheng’s opinion again." Although his wife was not Fu Sheng’s biological mother, she had always treated Fu Sheng as her own son.
"You’re right. I’ll visit their school again tomorrow, no matter what Fu Sheng chooses, I want to pave the way for him."
Seeing how earnest Han Fei was, his wife bit her lower lip lightly, as if she wanted to ask some things that had been buried in her heart for a long time, but she held back.
"We should also rest early. Oh, and from now on, let’s cover all the mirrors in the house with cloth before going to sleep."
"Why?"
"Fu Tian always points at the mirror and says there’s someone inside, it seems like children can see things adults can’t," Han Fei wasn’t going to say there was a female ghost hiding in the mirror, chasing after him. It was more convenient to direct the blame at Fu Tian, since he seemed to actually see ghosts anyway.
"Don’t scare me." His wife always lay in bed alone at night, and opening her eyes would bring the mirror into view.
"It’s better to be safe than sorry, there’s no harm in being careful," Han Fei took out the bedding and spread it on the floor. Before he could lie down, he suddenly heard noises from the second floor, as if Fu Sheng’s bedroom door had been opened.
His wife and Han Fei had an unspoken understanding, neither of them said a word, and only when the bedroom door made a sound the second time did Han Fei and his wife go out.
Quietly making their way upstairs, Han Fei saw that the food on the tray had been eaten, and the note the girl gave to Fu Sheng hadn’t been returned. However, there was a new note on the tray.
"Is this for me from Fu Sheng?" Han Fei showed some excitement as he boasted to his wife, "Fu Sheng seems willing to communicate with me."
For Han Fei, Fu Sheng was the key to the entire Shrine Memory World. If Fu Sheng was willing to come out of his seclusion, it meant Han Fei had made a breakthrough in his strategy, and he was, of course, extremely excited.
His wife, unaware of these matters, just saw that Han Fei was particularly excited, as if he was genuinely happy from the bottom of his heart.
Family was so important to him.
"Player number 0000 please note, your wife’s hatred for you has decreased by one point, for a cumulative decrease of three points,"
Han Fei received a response from Fu Sheng, holding that small note as if he had found the most important treasure.
His wife saw Han Fei’s happy demeanor and did not disturb him. She carried the tray into the kitchen and washed the dishes thoroughly.
Holding the note, Han Fei sat at the dining table. As he unfolded the note, a system prompt appeared in his mind.
"Player number 0000 please note! You have triggered a Shrine Random Task—What is the right thing to do?"
"What is the right thing to do (Shrine Random Task): Many people, even adults, still do not understand what the right thing and the wrong thing to do are."
"Mission requirement: Find the missing previous principal, he can tell you what the right thing to do is."
The first Shrine Random Task was finally triggered, and Han Fei also saw the few words written on Fu Sheng’s note—It’s raining, please hold an umbrella for the sapling.
Almost as soon as Han Fei read the note, a light pattering came from outside the window, as raindrops fell on the glass.
"Is it really raining?"
Holding Fu Sheng’s note, Han Fei entered the kitchen, "I need to go out for a bit."
"Going out this late?" His wife seemed to think of something unpleasant. Fu Sheng had done something similar before, going out late at night under the pretense of work, which actually meant fooling around with other women.
"Do you remember what Teacher Liu said? Fu Sheng would run to hold an umbrella for the sapling when it rained," Han Fei showed his wife the note: "It’s raining again outside, and I plan to go to Fu Sheng’s school to find out why he wanted to hold an umbrella for the sapling."
"But..."
"I must believe in my child. If even we don’t trust him, who in this world will?" Han Fei put away the note firmly: "Everyone thinks my son is a madman, but in my heart, he will always be my pride, and I will prove it to everyone."
He picked up an umbrella, dressed himself, and left the house.
His wife stared at the door, her gaze drifting between the kitchen knife and the umbrella, but in the end, she also picked up an umbrella and followed him out.
Rain washed over the city. The Memory World of Fu Sheng was much larger than that of the Mirror God. Han Fei hailed a taxi, which after a long drive, dropped him at the school.
Perhaps because the world had not yet started to mutate, the school didn’t feel too terrifying in the dark of night.
Han Fei climbed over the wall and entered the school. Walking inside, he actually felt a sense of relief that he hadn’t during the daytime.
Avoiding the surveillance cameras, Han Fei first walked up the steps in front of the teaching building. After a long wait, he finally saw the girl in a school uniform.
This time, it seemed the girl was leading the way for him. After appearing, she walked down the steps and headed towards the back of the school field.
The rain passed through the girl’s body as she led Han Fei through the school during the rainy night.
For Han Fei, this feeling was strange: he knew the girl was a ghost, yet he felt no fear at all; his heart even had an inexplicable sense of kinship.
"No matter where I go, ghosts seem to treat me better than people do. Am I a friend of fierce ghosts?"
The girl entered a thicket at the very back of the sports field, standing beside a small sapling.
"Is this the sapling Fu Sheng has been taking care of?"
After approaching the sapling, Han Fei’s heart surprisingly found peace, feeling a touch of warmth.
This warmth wasn’t physical; it felt as though his soul had been wrapped in a thin blanket.
"On a rainy night, even with a ghost standing beside me, this sapling makes me feel warm."
Standing beside the sapling, Han Fei held an umbrella over it, just like Fu Sheng would have done.
He stood guard until midnight, when Han Fei realized his mood score had risen by two points.
"Normally, when a ghost appears, my mood score would suddenly drop. This is the first time I’ve encountered my mood score rising."
As Han Fei wondered, a plainly dressed middle-aged man appeared. He placed a handful of soil beside the sapling and then walked towards the sports field.
The rain passed through his body. He looked somewhat confused, as if he was acting entirely on the instincts from his life.
Crossing the field, he checked the various pieces of equipment and then entered the teaching building, checking each classroom in turn.
With white walls and new desks, the classrooms were also fitted with air conditioners. Seeing all this, the middle-aged man smiled contentedly.
"He seems to be caring for the students in the school."
Han Fei followed the middle-aged man silently, the two of them walking together in the dark night.
