Chapter 538: Chapter 538: Teacher, Is There Still Hope for My Son?

"Hatred towards me from Li Guo’er decreased by five points?"

Han Fei was somewhat startled; his recent rescue of Li Guo’er had been a purely instinctive bodily reaction, and he hadn’t expected that no good deed goes unrewarded, having directly diminished a portion of Li Guo’er’s murderous intent.

’Rescued by the person she most wants to kill, Li Guo’er’s heart must be riddled with indescribable turmoil. That girl is actually quite nice, very considerate towards me, willing to kill me in the most comfortable way possible, without inflicting pain, quite empathic,’ he thought.

Glancing back, he saw the crowd had cordoned off the accident scene so tightly that Han Fei’s view was blocked.

"Why is Shen Luo wearing a hospital gown? It looks like there was an advertisement for a Plastic Surgery Hospital on that truck. Could it be that he’s escaped from the Plastic Surgery Hospital?"

"In Fu Sheng’s youth memory, the Plastic Surgery Hospital and Paradise coexist within the same city; what influence have these two buildings had on his growth?"

Through the information provided by Chou Ba, Han Fei knew that the Plastic Surgery Hospital owned by Eternal Life Pharmaceutical was originally built by Fu Sheng; after his disappearance, it was managed by Fu Tian.

From a distance, the crowd let out gasps as if someone in the truck was preparing to climb out, and seeing this, Han Fei hurriedly ran off into the distance.

He didn’t yet have the ability to take Shen Luo with him. He shouldn’t be a rubbernecker and risk his life for it.

After taking a detour, Han Fei finally arrived home, by which time it had already grown dark.

Entering the residential complex, he noticed an unfamiliar electric scooter parked at the entrance to the stairwell.

Not thinking much of it, Han Fei was now focused on getting home to cook, aiming to reduce his wife’s hatred a bit further.

"I’m home." Taking out his keys to open the door, Han Fei, glancing at the shoe cabinet, noticed one less pair of slippers and immediately got a bad feeling: "Today, Fu Tian hasn’t come to open the door for me."

After changing his shoes and walking inside, Han Fei saw a demure and elegant strange woman sitting on the sofa.

His instinct was to back away, but at that moment, Fu Tian came running over with a glass of juice, rattling on: "Teacher Liu, have some orange juice."

"Teacher Liu? The surname is Liu?" Han Fei felt a slight relief; among Fu Yi’s ambiguous relationships, there was no one with the surname Liu.

"I came for a home visit today. I mainly wanted to talk to you about Fu Sheng’s situation," Teacher Liu spoke softly, showing Han Fei a very polite smile.

Finally meeting a normal woman, Han Fei put down his briefcase and sat on the opposite side of the sofa: "Teacher Liu, I was actually looking forward to consulting with you."

Hearing Han Fei’s voice, Teacher Liu smiled gently: "Fu Sheng’s dad, when did you start caring about your own child?"

The female teacher’s voice was soft, but her words seemed to carry thorns.

"I indeed didn’t care enough about my child in the past. I feel like my educational philosophy was the problem." Since Fu Yi had always been out gallivanting, he never had the time to take care of Fu Sheng, so Han Fei acknowledged his fault, "Teacher, do you think there’s still hope for my son?"

"Your son should still have hope," Teacher Liu said gently, looking at Han Fei and in a quiet voice added, "But you might not be so lucky."

Looking at the gentle and quiet Teacher Liu, Han Fei’s heart skipped a beat.

Just then, the kitchen door opened, and his wife came out with a fruit platter, smiling warmly as she offered it with great enthusiasm, "Teacher Liu, please have some fruit."

"Thank you, Fu Tian’s mom." Teacher Liu addressed Han Fei as Fu Sheng’s dad but called his wife Fu Tian’s mom. Such a small term of address made Han Fei feel a whiff of crisis.

"Teacher Liu, could you tell me what kinds of things Fu Sheng has encountered at school? There are many reasons he’s reluctant to go to school, and I suppose some of them have to do with the school, right?" Han Fei wasn’t going to hold back any longer; Fu Sheng was the key to everything, and he urgently needed to understand everything related to Fu Sheng.

"At the beginning of his freshman year, Fu Sheng’s performance was excellent. He is one of the most intelligent children I’ve ever seen, with a photographic memory, comprehending any problem after just one explanation, and he is especially responsible and has a strong sense of justice. The only strange thing is... he always thought he could see things that others couldn’t."

"Is it that he said he could see ghosts?"

"Yes, and he also did many strange things, like going into the bushes on a rainy day to hold an umbrella over a sapling, or getting an extra portion of lunch to leave on the steps in front of the teaching building every day. He never ate in the cafeteria himself, always taking his food to the steps at the entrance of the teaching building, as if he was eating with someone."

Teacher Liu recounted all the unusual behaviors Fu Sheng displayed at school. His wife, upon hearing this, showed a look of concern, but Han Fei did not blindly question his child.

After a moment of thought, Han Fei said to Teacher Liu, "Was there a death in your school before? Did someone die on the steps at the entrance of the teaching building?"

"A few years ago, a child jumped from the building, and indeed, the body ended up on the steps, but this doesn’t necessarily mean anything, as many people know about the incident." Teacher Liu looked at Han Fei with surprise. "You don’t really think your child can see ghosts, do you?"

"I have confidence in my child. Some madmen, after losing control, would take a knife to the streets and stab people, but have you seen anyone who went mad and held an umbrella over a sapling? Even if he’s truly mad, he would still be a gentle and kind madman," Han Fei disliked anyone speaking ill of Fu Sheng and certainly didn’t want his child treated as a madman. "I suggest you take another good look at that sapling, the one Fu Sheng used to shelter with an umbrella on rainy days, and check to see if there are bodies buried nearby or if any murders have taken place there."

"I’m a school teacher. If something like that had really happened, I would have heard about it."

"Not necessarily. What if it’s a scandal? If the school is actively covering it up, and you don’t take the initiative to inquire, nobody will tell you," Han Fei firmly supported Fu Sheng.

"Fu Sheng’s dad, I came here to discuss how to help Fu Sheng return to school as soon as possible, not to encourage you to blindly indulge him, giving him that kind of psychological suggestion, which would worsen his condition," Teacher Liu’s gentle smile had faded, her expression now serious.

"Let’s all calm down," Han Fei stretched out his hands. "This is what we’ll do, I’ll talk to Fu Sheng at home, and I hope you can also take a closer look at what’s happened at school to see if there’s any connection between Fu Sheng’s peculiar behavior and those murder cases."

"Do you really believe he can see ghosts?" Teacher Liu asked this question a second time, unable to understand.

"I don’t know if he can see ghosts, but he is my child. Even if the whole world doesn’t believe in him, I will," Han Fei said calmly, as if it were only natural.

"What you’re doing could harm him," Teacher Liu took out several self-criticism letters from her bag. "All the students who bullied him have been punished by the school, and everyone hopes he will come back."

"What did they do to Fu Sheng?"

"They treated him like a freak, mocking and insulting him, later fighting, which eventually led to isolation and various pranks."

"They did such nasty things, and you think writing a few self-criticisms is punishment?" Han Fei glanced at the nearly identical self-criticisms. "Take these back. When there’s a chance, I’ll bring Fu Sheng to have them apologize to him in person."

"Fu Sheng’s dad, you didn’t use to be like this."

"People always change," Han Fei pushed the self-criticisms towards Teacher Liu, unwilling to accept insincere apologies.

Packing up the self-criticisms on the table, Teacher Liu looked deeply at Han Fei: "I hope this isn’t just talk on your part."

Having organized her backpack, Teacher Liu stood up, ready to leave.

"Teacher Liu, dinner is ready. Won’t you stay and eat something?" his wife quickly stood up, seemingly preparing to see Teacher Liu out.

Hearing his wife’s enthusiastic invitation, Teacher Liu’s gaze swept across Fu Yi’s wife’s face before landing on Han Fei, "Since the family relationship is so harmonious, then why is it you always tell me that you argue every day and live as though you’re suffocating, also yearning for more comfort and encouragement?"

Teacher Liu put on her shoes, "That’s what Fu Sheng used to tell me. I felt he was exaggerating a bit. I hope you can continue to live a content and happy life. A good family can provide a healthy environment for a child to grow up in."

"Thank you for your hard work, Teacher Liu." His wife still had a smile on her face as she followed Teacher Liu out.

"No need to see me out. I know the way." Teacher Liu also smiled warmly as she deftly opened the door.

Just as Teacher Liu was about to walk out, she suddenly paused.

The security door was pushed open, and there was a woman standing in the corridor outside the house!

She wore glasses, her clothes were somewhat torn, and she looked sweet and cute, appearing much younger than her actual age.

"Li, Li, Li Guo’er?"

Three entirely different women stood at the door, leaving Han Fei feeling like his soul had been shaken out of him.

"This definitely isn’t my problem. It’s absolutely Shen Luo’s problem. If I hadn’t looked at him one more time in the crowd, I wouldn’t be this unlucky! Damn, I really want to find a crack to crawl into!"

Han Fei had never experienced anything like this. He was now very worried about being torn apart right then and there.

The three women looked at each other, the atmosphere was so tense it was suffocating.

"Team leader, I came to return your phone. Your phone fell out when you took a fall." Li Guo’er took out Han Fei’s phone from her bag and carefully wiped it clean with a napkin.

The boss’s phone being taken out of a female subordinate’s bag and returned just as it was getting dark.

At first glance, it seemed like nothing was amiss, but upon closer thought, it felt a little odd. After all, a phone is something most people never let out of their sight.

The expressions on Teacher Liu and his wife’s faces changed, and Han Fei’s face turned pale.

"Little Li almost got hit by a car on the road. I fell when I rescued her, and my phone dropped to the ground," Han Fei took the phone from Li Guo’er, "Really, I guess you will be able to see it online in a bit."

"Sister-in-law, don’t overthink it. The team leader really did save me this time." Li Guo’er said ’this time’, as if there had been another occasion.

"In that situation, anyone who saw it would have gone over to save her, there’s nothing more to it." Han Fei smiled awkwardly, "It’s already dark. You should head back early, or you might miss the bus."

Li Guo’er and Teacher Liu left together, their backpacks bulging as if they were carrying something inside.

The two didn’t chat, walking side by side yet seeming as if they were on different floors altogether, maintaining a certain distance.

Han Fei, holding his phone, closed the door to his room, only to discover the smile and warmth had completely disappeared from his wife’s face.

"Look at the news, I really didn’t lie to you." Han Fei searched online with his phone, but his wife went into the kitchen alone.

Not long after, the sound of chopping meat resonated from the kitchen, each chop against the cutting board sounded frighteningly terrible.

"Why is Mom angry?" Fu Tian scampered over from the sofa, looking up at Han Fei with a puzzled expression on his cute little face, "Mom was smiling just a moment ago."

"It’s because Dad made Mom unhappy," Han Fei squatted in front of Fu Tian, looking into the boy’s eyes, "If one day Dad isn’t around anymore, you have to protect Mom and not let her be wronged again."

Han Fei didn’t know how long he could survive in this world, yet he wanted to help this family as much as he could.

Actually getting to know them, they were all quite nice people: Fu Sheng was kind to both ghosts and humans, Fu Tian was well-behaved and likable, his wife was virtuous and beautiful, and she treated Fu Sheng as her own son. They shouldn’t live in sorrow, they deserved happiness.

"I’ve done the Building Chief’s Manager task. It was a Fragment of Memory left by Fu Sheng. According to the scenes shown in the memories, this family did not find happiness after Fu Yi’s death. Instead, they became even more desperate."

"The Shrine Inheritance Task was probably meant for me to try and change that worst-case future during my limited life span."

Han Fei shook his head lightly. It was easy to say, but hard to do. He was finding it hard to protect himself, let alone change the fate of others.

Letting Fu Tian go back to playing on the sofa, Han Fei walked silently to the kitchen doorway, "Your foot isn’t healed yet. Let me do the cooking."

"There’s no need." The woman had already minced the meat on the cutting board into ground meat, yet she did not stop. It was as though she was imagining the meat to be a certain person.

As Han Fei stood at the doorway, contemplating what to do next, Fu Tian suddenly shouted from the living room.

"Dad’s on TV! Mom! Brother! Come look! Dad’s on TV!"

Fu Tian pointed at the television screen, filled with excitement, and darted into the kitchen, "Mom! Dad’s on TV!"

Hearing Fu Tian’s voice, the woman finally stopped chopping meat. She wiped her hands and walked to the living room with a puzzled expression.

The local station was airing the news about Han Fei’s act of heroism. The shop’s surveillance had recorded that harrowing moment.

The delivery truck came barreling in. Han Fei pushed Li Guo’er to the side, and then the truck plowed through the store’s display cabinet and into the store.

"According to witnesses, the rescuer left without providing any contact information after saving the person!"

"Righteous Heroism, this spirit is worth learning and spreading."

"The whole city is spreading the word. Let’s join the search for this Nameless Hero who saved a life!"
