Chapter 537: Chapter 537: Undying and Endless Love (5200 Votes for Monthly Ticket)
"What happened!"
"Is anyone hurt?"
More and more colleagues ran to the door of the storeroom, Han Fei also got up with Zhao Qian’s help, "Sorry, I just accidentally tripped and knocked down the shelf, I will clean this up properly."
He apologized to the approaching colleagues, not mentioning anything related to Zhao Qian.
"Team leader! You didn’t run into anything, did you!"
The other members of the design team crowded around Han Fei, "We are a team, it is better if we clean up together."
"The leader is really nice, doing the dirty and tiring work himself, letting us stay in the room with the air conditioning while he went here to tidy up."
The other members were asking Han Fei if he was hurt, but Li Guo’er looked suspiciously at Zhao Qian, the mature and delicate woman supporting Han Fei, her face full of concern, yet her gaze somewhat distracted.
"Team leader, let’s clean this together." Li Guo’er wanted to enter the room but Zhao Qian subconsciously blocked the entrance.
As Li Guo’er was about to continue moving in, Han Fei had already intercepted her, "You all hurry back to work! Today you must give me the modified game plan, I have made a military order, if this game isn’t done well, then I will have to pack up and leave!"
Han Fei became stern, "Disperse, there’s nothing to see here."
All sorts of props in the storeroom had been properly arranged, and those with a discerning eye might notice something amiss. It should have been Zhao Qian’s concern, but Han Fei took the initiative to defuse the crisis by refusing others’ help, and specifically diverted the topic to prevent anyone else from entering.
"Old Fu, you should be more careful with your work, don’t let the game turn out poorly and then get injured as well," Brother Zhang Yu, the fair middle-aged man, taunted Han Fei, then left contentedly with his subordinates.
"Team leader, can you really handle this alone?"
"Hurry back to work, leave this to me!"
The crowd dispersed, and finally, only Han Fei and Zhao Qian were left at the storeroom entrance.
"You should also go back to work, big shot." Han Fei turned and entered the storeroom, acting as if he hadn’t noticed anything, but if he really hadn’t noticed anything, he would be severely injured by now.
Zhao Qian also realized Han Fei knew everything, but since Han Fei didn’t point it out, she didn’t continue to talk.
"Be careful when cleaning the cabinets." Zhao Qian’s tone seemed a bit softer, usually she spoke very harshly, exuding a big sister’s aura.
After everybody left, Han Fei began to clean little by little, first collecting the sharp props on the ground, then removing all the heavy items from the shelf.
"This storeroom is rarely entered by anyone, it’s the most suitable place in the company for murder and hiding a corpse, I must clean up everything here, and get to know every corner."
Han Fei had worked as a counter clerk in a department store and was very experienced with organizing and cleaning up.
"I feel like I’ve inadvertently learned a lot of skills."
Compared to tasks like fighting fierce ghosts, cleaning was simply too easy.
Han Fei cleaned up most of it from morning till noon, just when Brother Jia Shu also came to call him to eat together.
"Team leader, I really admire you, daring to run into the storeroom to clean it up alone." Brother Jia Shu was leading Han Fei to the cafeteria, his casual remark caught Han Fei’s attention.
"Was there anything that happened in the storeroom?"
"I heard that before our company moved here, an employee from the previous company committed suicide in that room, but the specific reason is unknown, anyway, no one used that room, later Sister Qian turned it into a storeroom." Brother Jia Shu treated it just like a Kaidan, but Han Fei took it as a piece of news.
"Was the employee who committed suicide a man or a woman?"
"Seems like it was a man."
"Oh." Han Fei breathed a sigh of relief and lost interest in asking any further.
"Because someone died, everybody doesn’t like to clean that room, feeling it’s bad luck. We used to be in charge of the Eternal Life project, the ace team in the company, now it’s like a tiger that has fallen to the plains and is bullied by the dogs." Brother Jia Shu was quite sentimental, "But no worries, team leader, we all believe in your strength, under your leadership we will definitely shine again."
Han Fei smiled and nodded, setting aside what kind of person Brother Jia Shu really was, he had thoroughly understood the workplace.
The department’s five people sat at a table for lunch, the other four either intentionally or unintentionally left the seat next to Li Guo’er empty.
Han Fei eyed the drinks that Li Guo’er had bought for everyone and felt somewhat reluctant to drink.
"Team leader! Come sit!"
"Alright."
Han Fei sat next to Li Guo’er awkwardly, and Brother Jia Shu, sensing the tense atmosphere, immediately grabbed the drinks Li Guo’er had bought: "Our new project is definitely going to succeed. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen such great copy and plot. I suggest we all toast to pre-celebrate our new game selling big."
Han Fei had not intended to drink, but with Brother Jia Shu saying that, everyone picked up their drinks.
Staring at Brother Jia Shu, Han Fei also naturally lifted his drink: "Let’s all work hard and prove ourselves. Even a small, overlooked project can become a big hit."
"The team leader is right!"
"Once we hit it big, let Zhang Yu clean the storage room alone—I’ll hide inside and play a ghost to scare him to death!"
"Great idea, include me too. Let’s play Black and White Impermanence!"
The employees regained their motivation, and Han Fei gently sipped his drink before starting to eat.
During the meal, Li Guo’er took out her phone and placed it in front of Han Fei: "Team leader, I have another new idea."
Han Fei looked at the phone, and Li Guo’er had devised the eighth way to kill a scumbag that morning—the male lead was crushed under a container, his brain matter smashed out.
"Although our game is adults only, I wouldn’t recommend making scenes this gory," Han Fei gently pushed the phone aside.
"So, do you think getting hit by a car or crushed to death is better?" Li Guo’er rested her chin on her hands, staring at Han Fei intensely yet her tone sounded curious and even a bit cute.
"Neither is too good; I think we shouldn’t make it so gory. The cleaners have it tough enough without having to slowly scrub blood from everywhere," Han Fei said as he buried his head and began to eat earnestly: "You should eat quickly as well. I’ll go sort out the storage room later. Try to finalize the plans before we leave."
After hastily finishing the meal, Han Fei slipped away first.
Closing the door of the storage room, Han Fei leaned against the door panel and finally breathed a sigh of relief: "If time could be reversed, I would definitely cripple Fu Yi’s lower body after Fu Sheng was born."
Counting on his fingers, there were already four women who wanted to kill Han Fei now; the key issue was that there were still three people chatting ambiguously with him through Fu Yi’s alternate phone number who hadn’t shown up.
"I better quickly erase their hatred, otherwise, as the world progressively changes, I might end up facing not seven women, but seven hatreds."
Han Fei continued to organize the storage room, staying busy until the sun was almost setting.
Reaching the last row of shelves that needed organizing, Han Fei touched the dust on the shelf: "How long has it been since anyone used this shelf?"
It seemed like everyone in the company was afraid of the rumors about the ghost, rarely venturing deep inside, mostly piling things up at the entrance, which caused more and more clutter at the entrance of the storage room.
"Finish organizing, then go home to cook before it gets dark. Try to reduce some hatred," Han Fei thought, wanting to make up for Fu Sheng’s regrets.
As he wiped the last row of shelves, Han Fei suddenly noticed something hanging behind the shelves—it seemed to be a painting, still covered with a cloth.
"Usually, the things hidden in the deepest part of the storage room are not auspicious, and I wouldn’t touch them." As soon as these thoughts entered Han Fei’s mind, the old cloth fell off by itself.
As the cloth fell, Han Fei’s mood also decreased slightly.
Having previously completed the Shrine Inheritance Task, Han Fei, without any hesitation, turned and walked towards the outside, but found his legs extremely heavy.
Turning his head, he saw under the old cloth was a mirror, in which a male corpse swung back and forth.
The corpse seemed to belong to a staff member who had previously committed suicide; he hanged himself in front of the mirror, and after death, his ghost entered the mirror.
Han Fei was standing exactly in the spot where the male staff member had hanged himself.
"Why should the oppressed oppress each other? I’m squeezed too! If you’re really unsatisfied, how about I fetch our leader for you?"
Han Fei couldn’t open his Item Bar now and without the Rebirth Saber, it was difficult for him to kill the ghost.
"Brother, did you want to kill me after hearing I have a wife and six girlfriends? You’ve misunderstood!"
The swinging amplitude of the male corpse in the mirror gradually increased, resembling a fish struggling to breathe, and Han Fei gradually realized the male corpse did not show strong murderous intent towards him.
"Do you want me to help you?" Han Fei looked puzzled, but soon the puzzlement in his eyes turned into fear.
There was not only him and the male corpse in the mirror but also a faint, faceless woman!
That woman now seemed to only appear in the mirror, initially standing far away, but she slowly approached and appeared behind the male corpse in the mirror.
Both Han Fei and the male corpse in the mirror began to struggle, as the world had not yet transformed, and the faceless woman herself was severely injured; it appeared she still needed some time to recover her strength.
A cold aura filled the storeroom, and the faceless woman violently hit the mirror, startling both Han Fei and the male corpse.
The faceless woman continually hit the mirror, and a large number of cracks began to form on its surface.
"Before her strength recovers to a certain level, it seems she can’t come out of the mirror."
This was good news for Han Fei, but not so much for the male corpse.
Han Fei grabbed something nearby and hurled it at the door, hoping to attract someone’s attention, but the male corpse wasn’t so lucky; he was directly torn apart by the faceless woman.
As the body was torn apart, Han Fei’s legs finally returned to normal, as if pulling out of a mire, and he hurriedly ran to the door to open it.
He desperately shook the door lock but couldn’t open it; Han Fei, out of desperation, kicked the door fiercely.
A kick with a physical strength of thirty failed to break the lock, and Han Fei’s heart suddenly chilled by half, his mood value plummeting rapidly as the faceless woman in the mirror stuffed the torn male corpse into her body.
She stood in front of the mirror, her featureless face pressed against it, facing Han Fei, and slowly, the facial features of the male corpse began to appear on her face.
Just as her face was about to fully appear, footsteps sounded from the corridor outside, and someone opened the door from outside.
The remaining light of the setting sun shone into the storeroom, and the bone-chilling cold inside slowly dissipated.
"Team leader?" Li Guo’er, wearing glasses, appeared at the door. She guessed that Zhao Qian might also want to kill Han Fei; she had been paying attention to this place and therefore ran over first when she heard the urgent knocking.
Han Fei, leaning against the shelf, looked at the mirror again; the faceless woman had already disappeared.
"Damn, that thing ate the male staff member. Could she be able to leave the mirror next time?" Han Fei was full of worry; without the Rebirth Saber at hand, he felt completely insecure.
"Team leader! What are you doing?" Li Guo’er frowned at Han Fei, "Is there anything else in this room?"
"Probably just saw a ghost." Zhang Yu and the others also came out of the office, joking about various things, "Fu Yi, it’d be great if you could also make such a big commotion at work."
Han Fei was too lazy to bother with them; he re-entered the storeroom, covered the mirror with a cloth, and then came out.
"Let’s go, let’s head back," Han Fei said as he passed by Zhang Yu, patting him on the shoulder, "I indeed saw a ghost; she told me she would visit your home’s mirror tonight."
Without waiting for Zhang Yu to say anything else, Han Fei returned to the office with his subordinates.
"Team leader, you didn’t really see a ghost, did you?" Brother Jia Shu was very interested in this.
"Have you finished your work?" Han Fei did not want to reveal the truth, fearing he would scare his subordinates.
"No way, there’s too much work," Brother Jia Shu pointed at his computer and reported on his progress, "It’ll probably take another day; maybe I should work overtime tonight."
Before Brother Jia Shu could finish speaking, the alarm on Han Fei’s phone went off; he took out his phone to turn off the alarm: "You must finish tomorrow; never mind working overtime, go home and rest."
Overtime was not a word in Han Fei’s dictionary; he walked to his desk, saved his progress in Plants vs. Zombies, then shut down the computer and prepared to go home.
Li Guo’er at the side also started packing up her things, seeing this, Han Fei immediately quickened his steps.
When he reached the elevator and realized there was still a long wait, he decisively ran into the safety passageway.
Walking down the stairs, when he emerged from the safety passageway, Li Guo’er just came out of the elevator.
Twisting his head slightly, Han Fei pretended not to see her.
"Team leader, why are you using the stairs?"
"Just wanted to get some exercise once in a while."
It was five past five, but there was not a soul at the company’s exit. After all, the leaders still insisted on finishing work at six o’clock.
Han Fei and Li Guo’er walked towards the outside of the company, feeling just like students who were skipping class together.
"See you tomorrow. Let’s try to get that game done as soon as possible." Han Fei looked at Li Guo’er’s backpack, roughly estimating that it could hold various types of knives. "You go ahead and drive. I live nearby, I’ll just walk."
"I didn’t drive today." Li Guo’er held the bottom of her backpack, giving Han Fei a sweet smile. "Sometimes I also want to exercise a bit."
"That’s good, then I’ll go ahead." Han Fei quickened his pace, his attention focused entirely on what was behind him, feeling Li Guo’er might pull something out of her bag at any moment.
As the distance between them gradually increased, Han Fei breathed a sigh of relief. Just as he was about to cross the overpass to the other side of the road, his gaze suddenly froze on something.
A small van painted with ads for a plastic surgery hospital sped towards him from a distance.
The doctor in the driver’s seat was covered in blood and seemed about to pass out, while the man in the passenger seat, dressed in hospital pajamas, was animatedly talking to the doctor about something.
"Shen Luo?"
Seeing the hospital pajamas, Han Fei’s right eyelid twitched violently.
Shen Luo in the van seemed to sense something, looking towards the distance.
Han Fei immediately hid, avoiding making eye contact.
He was already being chased by a bunch of people, and if he took this player with a Luck Value of zero along, who knows what absurd things could happen.
"I need to get away quickly. I won’t take this route to work ever again."
Han Fei was thinking about leaving, but the blood-soaked doctor in the van suddenly slumped onto the steering wheel, causing the van to lose control and head straight for Li Guo’er at the roadside.
Li Guo’er, who had been keeping an eye on Han Fei, hadn’t expected the traffic on the street to suddenly go haywire; she just saw him suddenly running towards her, throwing caution to the wind.
Yesterday, she had driven towards Han Fei in the same manner, determined to kill this man who had deceived her. But in this moment, everything seemed to have flipped—the man who had been avoiding her was running towards her.
Horns honked and the cries of pedestrians rose, only then did Li Guo’er realize something was wrong. She turned her head, and the out-of-control van loomed before her like a massive steel beast, its gaping maw wide open!
"Watch out!"
Just as her fragile body was about to be crushed by the beast, she was knocked aside by a force.
Her body fell, but it didn’t hit the hard ground; in a daze, Li Guo’er saw Han Fei’s pain-stricken face.
"Bang!"
The van crashed into a store, sending a shower of glass shards everywhere, as if the world were raining down glass made from colored glaze.
Han Fei’s back hit the steps hard, even then, he was still protecting Li Guo’er’s head.
Bystanders quickly ran over to help, and Han Fei collapsed on the ground.
Only then did Li Guo’er fully come to her senses, realizing that she was saved by the very person she wanted to kill the most.
"Shouldn’t you be happy if I died? Didn’t you hope I would disappear? Why did you still save me?"
"There’s no time left." Han Fei struggled to rise from the ground. He released his scratched hand and placed Li Guo’er’s glasses in front of her. "I deserve to die. It’s my fault for everything that’s been happening all this time, I’m sorry."
Brushing off the glass shards from his body, Han Fei covered his back with his hands, his expression one of severe pain, yet his gaze was unfalteringly resolute.
"You..." Li Guo’er, holding her nearly intact glasses, watched Han Fei walking away, at a loss for words.
"There really is no time left." Not daring to stay a moment longer, Han Fei quickened his pace towards the other side of the street. "If we don’t leave now, it’ll be over once Shen Luo comes out."
After crossing the road, he had walked a dozen meters when suddenly the system’s notification sound rang in his mind.
"Player number 0000, please note! Li Guo’er’s hatred for you has decreased by five points."
