Chapter 532: Chapter 532: Open the Door, I’ve Brought a Surprise (Seeking 4000 Monthly Votes)
"The last child? What’s his number?" The man’s interest was clearly piqued, and his voice softened significantly.
"I don’t know what you mean by ’number.’ All I know is that he was the last child to undergo personality reshaping. What personality he was meant to have, only his father knows."
"As far as I know, there’s no executive at Deep Space Technology with the surname Yan."
"I really don’t know anything else."
"Really?" The man didn’t believe Xia Yilan. "I’ll ask you one last question. If you can answer it, I’ll give you all the photos."
"Ask away."
"I have the data of twenty-one deceased here. They all visited that plastic surgery hospital before their deaths, with different causes of death, but most suffered mental suppression and chose to commit suicide. You just need to tell me, out of these twenty-one deceased, which ones do you recognize?"
"Give me the photos about me first, then I’ll tell you."
Once again, silence fell upon the room. After about a dozen seconds, the door to the props room was suddenly opened.
Xia Yilan held something as she looked out into the empty corridor, but not a soul was in sight.
She closed the door and quickly left.
It wasn’t long before a long-haired man also emerged from the props room. As he passed the actors’ ready room, he furrowed his brows and suddenly opened the door, peering inside. When he saw no one, he left.
The corridor quickly returned to calm. About half an hour later, the door to the actors’ ready room was opened from the inside—Han Fei had been standing right behind it.
If the long-haired man had pushed the door open just a bit wider, he might have run into Han Fei.
"Such strong vigilance. That doesn’t really seem like the behavior of a regular actor."
Han Fei had obtained some very important information. He quietly entered the props room, where the large props were laid out unchanged, but the petals in front of the mirror and the row of dummy dolls had disappeared.
"Yantang is the last child to undergo personality reshaping. From what they said, it seems that Yantang has something to do with a child who has a number."
Long-haired man Qiangwei was also investigating the plastic surgery hospital. It seemed he was trying to find those numbered orphans.
"I’ve only had ’Perfect Life’ for a few months. Some of those orphans might have already recalled their past and started to act with a purpose."
The more pain one encounters, the more one forgets. Han Fei knew nothing of his past, but that didn’t mean the other orphans were the same.
"If I get in touch with them, they might just become an asset to me."
Nobody likes making enemies everywhere; everyone wants to have as many friends as possible, so that we can ’share our troubles.’
Arriving at the ticket counter, Han Fei bought a ticket for the play. Once the show started, he sat in the audience and watched silently.
Many audience members seemed to have come just to see Qiangwei’s performance. This man’s acting was exquisite, and it was as if he had two freely interchangeable souls within him; whether playing a male or female role, he was particularly captivating.
Han Fei possessed master-level acting. He judged from the most professional perspective and concluded that Qiangwei’s acting was just a hair’s breadth away from the master level.
"So he’s the one who hypnotized Jin Jun? What other secrets is this guy hiding?"
By nine o’clock in the evening, Qiangwei’s performance had already concluded.
As he returned backstage, Han Fei also left his seat, preparing to meet him in person.
Escorted by a staff member, Han Fei arrived at the actors’ lounge, but when he pushed open the door, Qiangwei wasn’t there.
Moving forward, Han Fei saw a line of words written in lipstick on the mirror—I know you, please mind your own business.
"Quite polite," Han Fei murmured. He didn’t linger and instead prepared to go back to playing the game.
"Now that I know Yantang’s identity is not simple, I can definitely summon his soul into Deep World for a thorough conversation."
At eleven thirty at night, Han Fei was getting ready to enter the game when Huang Ying suddenly called.
At first, Han Fei thought Huang Ying wanted to report on the community construction progress, but what Huang Ying brought up was something else entirely.
"Han Fei, things don’t look too good."
"What’s up?"
"Do you remember me telling you about two teams of elite players trapped in the maze?"
"I remember. Did something happen to them?"
"No news of their deaths yet, so they must still be trapped in the maze. But this can’t go on. I just received a notification from Inevitable Truth; they plan to form another elite team to enter the Paradise Maze. This group will consist entirely of top Black Box Hunters with an average level of seventeen, and one ranked player at level nineteen," Huang Ying said with concern in his voice.
"They’re going in again? Isn’t that like the calabash brothers saving their grandfather?" Han Fei couldn’t go to Lost Paradise at the moment; the Plastic Surgery Hospital stood between him and the Death Building.
"But I can’t dissuade them; they even invited my Blood Doctor identity to join," Huang Ying sounded frustrated. "This group has a huge influence. If they run into trouble in the maze, it might attract more people to explore it, which I fear could lead to very bad things."
"What’s with that Paradise Maze?"
"Actually, I’ve also explored it once, but didn’t find anything unusual. It feels like it might be a matter of chance, or there are certain conditions that need to be met to trigger something," Huang Ying explained over the phone. "The previous two teams had twelve players, and with the six top players this time, if all eighteen don’t come back, it’s going to blow up into something big."
"I’ll check out that maze as soon as I can," Han Fei acknowledged the urgency of the situation. "Send me the data on these eighteen people."
"All right."
Huang Ying began sending over the information. As soon as Han Fei’s gaze fell on the first name, his expression changed: "Qiangwei? Level nineteen? He’s a Black Box Hunter too?"
Looking at the photo of the long-haired man, Han Fei was surprised.
"This Qiangwei is one of the initiators of the Inevitable Truth website and a rather famous Black Box Hunter. He’s been searching for Black Boxes since the third beta of ’Perfect Life’ and has an almost fanatic zeal for Black Boxes and hidden maps."
"Quite the coincidence," Han Fei noted. He memorized all the information and then hung up the phone.
When midnight struck, Han Fei entered the Game Box.
The promised blood-red hue arrived, the city turned into a sea of crimson, and the unspeakable presence in the distance showed no sign of leaving, its aura growing more and more terrifying.
Opening his eyes, Han Fei checked his body, finding all wounds healed. Most importantly, he no longer felt any headache; his mind and consciousness not only had recovered but seemed even more resilient than before.
Pulling out a pig heart, Han Fei summoned Feng Ziyu, instructing him to have a thorough interrogation with Yantang later.
To uncover the truth, Han Fei didn’t hold back this time and mobilized all the Death Building Owners together.
Once everyone was ready, Han Fei tried using the Soul-summoning Talent and, to his surprise, succeeded on the first attempt.
After perceiving Yantang’s location through the fog, Han Fei directed Feng Ziyu and the others to take action.
He himself entered the room where Big Evil hid and began bleeding to help Big Evil suppress the Curse.
After several days of effort, the unspeakable Curse on Big Evil was almost completely under control.
After all, the unspeakable didn’t know who the true perpetrator of the Shrine destruction was, nor had it seen the culprit’s face. It could only broadly curse all "beings" that had touched the Shrine.
This was also why Big Evil was still lively; not only did it not take the unspeakable Curse seriously, but it also saw this as an opportunity to taste the unspeakable Curse.
Being able to consume the unspeakable Curse, merge with its power, and yet not be killed by it was a good thing for Big Evil, at least it seemed quite happy about it.
Time passed by, and around two o’clock in the early morning, Big Evil finally suppressed the unspeakable Curse completely.
When that Curse merged with Death Intent and Blood Pattern, Big Evil’s body began to change, looking different from before.
Perhaps influenced by the unspeakable, it started to resemble an upright person, or maybe ’demon’ would be a more fitting description.
"Butterfly transformed into an incredibly handsome human, yet its soul was hideously vile; Big Evil developed into a terrifically monstrous creature, but its soul was remarkably pure," Han Fei mused, gently stroking the head of Big Evil that lay beside him, his blood dripping between his fingers, a scene both eerie and sacred.
After the changes to its body, Big Evil emitted an even more terrifying aura than before. The Curse-covered black shell fell off, and the new shell was covered with bizarre patterns radiating Death Intent and Disaster.
At the same time, near Lost Paradise, a piercing scream rang out, audible to Ghosts and Monsters in several nearby areas.
Big Evil heard the sound too and instantly sprang up, ready to confront whatever had made the noise, causing Han Fei to quickly hold it back.
The unfortunate unspeakable seemed to have sensed its Curse was fully suppressed and that it could no longer find the perpetrator who had destroyed the Shrine.
The scream lasted a long time before it stopped, as if venting rage caused Lost Paradise and another unknown area to suffer.
Large buildings were severely damaged, and Dark Energy surged out from Lost Paradise’s center like a tide, even dispersing some of the fog that enshrouded the Death Building Area.
Calling on Zhuang Wen, Han Fei hurried to the rooftop to watch the commotion. It seemed that the unspeakable was being held back by something in Lost Paradise.
"Why is it always targeting Lost Paradise?" Han Fei called Bai Sinian over to ask. Only after their conversation did he learn that after destroying the Shrine in Lost Paradise, Big Evil had molted its shell. Worried that the shell, formed of Death Intent, would be discovered, Bai Sinian hid them all inside the damaged Shrine.
With no fog to conceal it, perhaps the unspeakable had detected a trace of Big Evil’s shell’s aura.
"You’ve really made a significant contribution this time," Bai Sinian’s assessment of Han Fei soared in his heart.
An hour after Unspeakable destroyed Lost Paradise and the unknown regions nearby, everyone heard another piercing scream.
Something in Lost Paradise was broken by him, and it seemed that he had paid a certain price.
"What is hidden in that Paradise that can even harm Unspeakable?"
Han Fei and the neighbors were all very surprised, for they were too far away to understand Lost Paradise, merely watching the excitement.
However, what happened next directly excited Han Fei.
Through the fog, Han Fei saw the shrine within the Plastic Surgery Hospital light up, and two terrifying waves of Hatred that could not be concealed rushed towards Lost Paradise like famished sharks, frantically tearing into it.
"Opportunity!"
A flash of lightning seemed to cross Han Fei’s eyes, and his gaze instantly brightened.
"Get ready to move!" He took out the Desire Coat from the Item Bar and had Zhuang Wen wear it, then he called over Big Evil and a few of the strongest neighbors from the Death Building.
"No matter which two Hatreds have left the Plastic Surgery Hospital, we need to take this opportunity to kill the remaining one! Even if we can’t make him scatter soul and body, we’ll at least leave him severely wounded, or destroy the only shrine they have!"
Doctor Yan, whose Soul Body had not fully recovered, also joined Han Fei’s group, and they promptly set out.
"Haha, go inform Mirror God to be ready for support, and let the others proceed with the plan we discussed earlier."
As Han Fei prepared to leave the Death Building Area, Feng Ziyu, carrying an unconscious Yantang on his back, ran over; they had already obtained some information from Yantang.
Yantang’s memories before the age of six were very fuzzy. After he turned six, he felt as if another child had moved into his body, a child who was smart, charming, optimistic, and possessed all the positive Powers.
He didn’t know how that child got in; he only knew the child’s name was a code.
At first, that child was very friendly, becoming the best friend of Yantang.
But over time, the child living inside Yantang changed. It was as if he’d broken free from some restraints and thought every day about devouring Yantang.
This situation continued until Yantang turned eighteen. Throughout the constant mutual devouring, Yantang’s main consciousness got the upper hand. On the night of his eighteenth birthday, he completely devoured the other child in his Brain Sea.
"The events that happened in Yantang’s Brain Sea, no one else knows except for himself. Who devoured who actually isn’t important, after all, the one who remains is the real Yantang."
Han Fei used his Soul-returning Talent to send Yantang back to the Shallow World, then he led his team out of the fog.
After confirming that Big Evil had not drawn the attention of Unspeakable, Han Fei and his group split into two teams ready to enter the Plastic Surgery Hospital.
Neighbors, including Xu Qin and Yinglong, probed the edges of the fog, while Han Fei led Zhuang Wen, clothed in the Desire Coat, along with Doctor Yan and Big Evil, rapidly towards the core building of the Plastic Surgery Hospital.
The Desire Coat could hide the scent of Hatred, Big Evil had the Ability to destroy shrines, and with Doctor Yan, who knew the hospital like the back of his hand, the group combined could certainly present the Plastic Surgery Hospital with a huge surprise.
