Chapter 489: Chapter 489: I’m Pure Physical Strength Focused (Seeking Monthly Passes at 4000)

The few people inside the room hadn’t noticed anything unusual when Han Fei suddenly became tense. They looked at each other in confusion, not quite understanding what he meant.

"Go downstairs? There seems to be a Slaughterer below," Tie Nan whispered to Han Fei. In his mind, that janitor had already become an extremely terrifying boss.

The other players were more of the casual type and had no experience with this kind of horror game.

"There’s no time to waste! I’ll hold them off for you, you guys take the stairs and get down as quickly as you can!"

Han Fei kicked the door open with one foot, his eyes firmly fixed on the other side of the corridor.

The other players also helped each other run out of the room, looking left and right at the stairways, not daring to make any reckless moves.

"It seems... nothing is coming?" Tie Nan had added Physical Strength and was proficient in fighting. After changing his profession to a Fighter, his senses were a bit sharper than the average player.

"I’m not sure from which direction it will come yet, but remember, as soon as it appears, you guys must run in the opposite direction immediately," Han Fei spoke quickly. Through the cold chills transmitted by the landlord’s ring, he had roughly estimated the enemy’s strength to be between that of a Medium-type Resentment and a Large-scaled Grudge.

If Han Fei didn’t borrow the power of the neighbors, it would be somewhat tricky; at least he didn’t have the confidence to protect the five "plagues" behind him under such circumstances.

All the players were standing in the corridor, the emptiness and silence invoking discomfort. Aunt Li’s legs had already gone weak; all she had wanted was to enter the game to tend to her garden and cook. But in the blink of an eye, everything had changed.

"Sister Li, we can definitely escape. Brother Youfu told me before, this place is actually a Hidden Map. Many players want to get in but can’t," Shen Luo, who had a kind heart, protected the older woman behind him as they both stood next to the elevator.

The once unresponsive elevator began to light up its indicator light when Shen Luo approached, and Han Fei also felt the Dark Energy closing in.

"It’s the elevator!" Han Fei turned his head abruptly. The elevator doors were slowly opening, with countless black hairs flowing out of the crack, engulfing Shen Luo and Aunt Li in the blink of an eye.

"Why did you have to stand with him!"

Han Fei reached out, but Xu Qin was faster. She grabbed Aunt Li’s arm and used the Dinner Knife to cut through the hair.

The elevator doors closed, the hair and Shen Luo disappeared without a trace, leaving only Aunt Li collapsed on the ground, too scared to stand up.

They had just regrouped when they lost a member again, but it seemed the others had grown accustomed to this kind of thing.

"Every time we encounter danger, Shen Luo is the first to have something happen, and he’s gotten separated from us several times. But it seems his Luck Attribute is the highest among us; he always manages to make his way back to us," Liuli Cat explained to Han Fei. "Shall we go downstairs first?"

"An even more terrifying thing hasn’t come yet." Perhaps it was the gathering of five people that finally caused the dense misfortune to change qualitatively, awakening the ghosts that lay dormant within the building.

At the end of the left corridor, a distorted human shadow appeared, standing at the dark doorway, with blood traces at its feet.

One could vaguely discern a human silhouette, only its limbs were folded into inconceivable angles. Instead of a person, it looked more like an insectoid creature.

After that figure appeared, the temperature in the corridor began to drop, as if it had suddenly moved from early autumn into the depths of winter.

"I think I saw her in a painting on the fourth floor," Yantang, who had been silent, spoke up: "This building has various kinds of artistic paintings hung on the walls of every floor, but the number of paintings on each floor is different. The fourth floor has five paintings, and their content mainly depicts a story about a five-person travel group entering a hotel, where a murderer got mixed in and killed the other four."

Yantang, whose initial Brainpower was as high as nine points, had been observing their surroundings: "This distorted figure is wearing the clothes of the travel group, with limbs folded and twisted. In the third painting, the female tourist was stuffed under the bed in this posture after she was murdered, and the killer even slept on the mattress above her for a night."

Yantang spoke rapidly, "What’s worth noting are the fourth and fifth paintings. In the fourth one, the murderer hid the other three members of the travel group beneath the bed as well. These four bodies were entangled and bent together. Now we have only seen one ghost, but I feel the other three must also be here."

Before he finished speaking, the fire escape door on the other side of the corridor was opened, and three intertwined figures began slowly advancing, supporting themselves on the ground with their hands.

"In the last painting, the murderer is lying on top of the corpses and encounters a devil holding an apple. This painting has a very deep meaning. It tells us that although the murderer is terrifying, it is not the ultimate mastermind. The devil holding the apple is the most terrifying. The murderer is just an outsider; perhaps what’s truly dreadful is this hotel filled with dead bodies."

After Yantang finished speaking, a door to a room opened slowly, and a hand covered in blood, holding a knife, gently slid across the wall.

"Brother, I know you are making sense, but please don’t analyze any further," Han Fei admitted he was right, but the problem was that all the terrible conjectures Yantang had analyzed had turned into reality.

Yantang had limited information and had only speculated that there was something wrong with the hotel owner, but if he continued, it was possible that he might indeed attract the hatred of the Plastic Surgery Hospital.

Until he met these five extraordinary individuals, Han Fei had not believed that bad luck could affect fate.

"You guys go down first, I’ll clear the way for you."

There was only one figure in the left corridor and three on the right. Han Fei was about to head left when Yantang spoke again.

"All along the way, the ghosts in this building are the most cunning, and they seem to be interconnected in some way. The key point is, haven’t you noticed that all their voices are the same!" Although Yantang was also scared, he calmly continued with his opinion: "I suspect that there is a most terrifying ghost in the hotel controlling everything and possibly watching us through surveillance. The gap on the left is deliberately arranged to trap us."

After hearing Yantang’s analysis, Han Fei immediately changed direction and rushed towards the right side.

Since Yantang had spoken, even if the mastermind behind the scenes hadn’t thought of it, the left side was likely to become unsafe.

Seeing Han Fei dash towards where the most ghosts were without anything in hand, Tie Nan was terrified: "Big brother, stay calm! He’s just analyzing, only analyzing!"

It was clear that Tie Nan was a decent guy. He knew that it was a critical moment for life and death, and without holding back any longer, he took out a pair of boxing gloves from his item bar and put them on.

"I’ll help you!"

In the Shallow World, Tie Nan was responsible for combat, with all his skills and points allocated to ensure the team’s safety.

As a beta tester, he was very aware that although the level 15 Han Fei was definitely stronger than him, they were only three levels apart, and considering Tie Nan’s main focus was on combat, he felt that their actual combat experience should be similar. Han Fei, being an old player in this hidden map, was likely stronger in his knowledge of the map.

Without further thought, Tie Nan followed right behind Han Fei. They had no choice but to fight for their lives now, and only by carving out a blood path could they survive and leave.

"It would be such a loss to die like this after finally entering a hidden map!" The death penalty in "Perfect Life," this casual healing-type game, is incredibly terrifying; once your game character dies, all previous progress dissipates, as if there are no second chances in real life. Tie Nan is a professional player, and if he restarted his account, he might very well get kicked out of his gaming guild.

"Whether for life in the game or in reality, I’m going to fight this one out!" Clenching his teeth and with skin flushed red, Tie Nan shouted and threw a punch at the ghostly figure nearest to him.

"Die!"

His professional skill triggered, and Tie Nan’s punch was incredibly fast, creating an afterimage.

He struck hard at the twisted human head, but the figure made no attempt to dodge.

The punch, carrying all of his strength, hit the ghost’s skull and then went through it to land on the wall.

The oil painting frame shattered, but the figure in front of him remained intact. It even tilted its head to look at him as if to say, what are you shouting so loudly for?

"My knuckles are a Grade G rare item..."

A pain shot through his abdomen, and before Tie Nan could react, a pale hand was already pressed against it.

Dark energy bloomed like a black flower on his belly, the chill twirling within his intestines, and he felt as if he’d lost sensation in his lower body.

As the twisted figure nearly touched his face, a force suddenly knocked him aside.

By the time he realized what happened, he saw Han Fei standing where he had been.

"Good brother, thanks for saving me, but by doing so, what will you do about yourself?"

He sat in the corner, watching Han Fei with a knife handle in hand, and a look on his face that seemed to say this time it might be over for us.

At level twelve, he couldn’t inflict any damage on that monster; the man before him was only three levels higher—how much stronger could he be?

Tie Nan had lost all hope. He knew the hidden map was dangerous, but he never imagined it to be this deadly.

The female ghost on the left was closing in, the twisted trio on the right remained unsolved, and the murderer with the knife had also stepped out of the room.

"This is a dead-end." Tie Nan was truly in despair. He tried to get up from the ground but then heard Han Fei’s chilling voice.

"If you don’t want to die, stay put and don’t move." Han Fei had always spoken gently before, and Tie Nan hadn’t thought him any different from the other players. It wasn’t until Han Fei spoke those words that Tie Nan felt an indescribable chill, as if not following his order would result in being erased.

"Let me help you instead, I have all my attribute points invested in physical strength. You might be higher level than me, but probably not as strong." Supporting himself against the wall, Tie Nan hadn’t even gotten up when Han Fei made his move.

The dazzling blade lit up the dark hallway; the warm light pierced right through the ghost and monster’s body.

As one of the men screamed in agony, the other two ghost and monsters intertwined with him pounced towards Han Fei, cutting off all his retreat routes. Yet Han Fei remained unruffled; he drew his knife and sliced at another ghost’s neck.

Dodging adroitly in the cramped space, bloodstained fingers only managed to tear his clothes, completely unable to touch him.

In this moment, not just Tie Nan, but the remaining players were also stunned.

Ferocious ghost patterns flowed over Han Fei’s body, his cold aura mingling with the glow of the Rebirth Saber, and with a mask on, Han Fei seemed like a divine spirit.

"He’s level fifteen, and you’re twelve?" Yantang’s gaze shifted between Han Fei and Tie Nan before uncertainly asking Tie Nan, "Are you hiding your true strength?"

"What the hell would I be hiding!" Tie Nan clutched his stomach, feeling as if his entire understanding of the game had been shattered, beginning to doubt whether his level was a sham.

The blade pierced through the ghost’s heart. Influenced by the Beast-faced Mask, a streak of blood flitted across Han Fei’s eyes as his other hand reached out and grabbed the ghost’s neck.

"Touch the deepest secrets of the soul!"

His fingers closed together, and under the boost of the Nine-life Ghost Pattern, Han Fei forcefully pulled the entangled ghost out.

"More than pain, it’s fear that dominates your heart. It’s clear somebody is controlling you." With the ghost’s head severed by the blade, Han Fei strode forward: "Follow me!"

Yantang and Liuli Cat supported Tie Nan, and the four players quickly ran towards the staircase.

"What was that ability he just used? It seemed like he could tear apart Fierce Ghosts with his bare hands! I’ve never seen such a terrifying and domineering attack skill!" Tie Nan, a beta tester, had his whole perception of the game overturned by everything about Han Fei.

Running downstairs, they hadn’t gone far when Han Fei suddenly stopped.

"What’s wrong?"

"Look at the room numbers in the hallway. We’ve been going downstairs for half a day, but we’re back on the seventh floor." Han Fei had encountered ghostly phenomena more than once before, so he was very calm about it.

"G-ghostly phenomena! We’re actually experiencing this?" Tie Nan was nearly in tears. Before, when he led everyone out of the fog, he found the hidden map quite boring, without even a shadow in sight. And yet, who would have thought that entering a random hotel would lead to countless supernatural events?

"So, what should we do now?" Yantang looked to Han Fei, clever enough to realize that Han Fei was the only one they could rely on now.

"There’s a most terrifying ghost hidden in this hotel, the one who killed everyone, pulling the strings from behind. This ghostly phenomena must be his doing as well." After a moment’s thought, Han Fei shared his plan: "Don’t waste energy recklessly. Carefully observe anything unusual in the hotel to determine the ghost’s location, and then we’ll go and kill it."

It seemed only Han Fei could speak of such a plan so nonchalantly, while the other players were already scared stiff.

"Um... I have something to say." Aunt Li, pale as a sheet, suddenly raised her hand: "I’m not much of a gamer and can’t help you much, but I think I’ve been to this hotel before."
