Chapter 488: Chapter 488: The Five ’Tiger’ Generals (Seeking 4000 Monthly Tickets)

Han Fei discreetly withdrew his hand and then rubbed it on the little cart behind the door.

The fact that Huang Ying’s Luck Value was already absurd at one, and now here was another at zero.

It’s crucial to know that a starting value of zero is fundamentally different from one, because in the Shallow World, initial luck can’t be negative; no matter how unlucky one is, their Luck Value can only go down to zero.

It’s like someone scoring ninety-nine because their capability is only ninety-nine points, whereas Shen Luo could score a hundred because the perfect score is only a hundred.

Noises emanated from the Spiritual Altar, Li Zai had already sensed an ominous air and began to get agitated, making it almost impossible for everyone to keep the lid of the altar closed.

Han Fei took a step back, then began to converse with Shen Luo, "Where are your companions hiding now?"

"I don’t know, I got separated from them," Shen Luo said with a strong hint of misfortune, "They mentioned going to the seventh floor earlier, but because there are Slaughterers outside, I dare not run around, so I still haven’t reunited with them."

"Are you sure they didn’t just deliberately leave you behind to escape?"

"They shouldn’t have, everyone is really nice," Shen Luo looked at Han Fei curiously, "Brother Youfu, why can’t I see your attributes? What level are you?"

"My mask is a rare item that can block players from prying; it’s normal for you not to see," Han Fei had checked the "Perfect Life" game leaderboard during the day, where the highest level still belonged to Huang Ying, who had just reached Level 19, followed by another formidable player at Level 17.

After a moment of thought, Han Fei disclosed his own level, "I just advanced to Level 15."

"Holy smokes! I’ve encountered a great player!" Shen Luo spoke softly, but he was genuinely astonished, "There’s hope for us now!"

Shen Luo had started playing from the server launch, but up until now, he had reached only Level 8; leveling up in this game was extremely difficult.

"Don’t get too excited, level isn’t everything," Han Fei glanced inside the room where the Spiritual Altar clanged noisily, worried it might frighten Shen Luo, "Let’s go, lead me to the seventh floor, hurry and meet up with your companions."

"Just go straight over like this?" Shen Luo was worried, "This hotel is very dangerous, full of Slaughterers, it’s like a supernatural movie."

"No worries, someone as lucky as you ought to be the protagonist in a supernatural movie," Han Fei said while checking the other’s information on his Attribute Panel, because after touching him, he could see all of Shen Luo’s attributes.

Apart from the Luck Value of zero, Shen Luo’s Initial Brainpower was above average, starting at seven. He had allocated all his Attribute Points gained from leveling up into Brain Power, so his Brain Power had reached fifteen points now.

However, through his observation, Han Fei found that the attribute points in the Shallow World weren’t quite the same as those in the Deep World, at least Shen Luo didn’t seem like someone with a Brain Power of fifteen.

It’s noteworthy that Shen Luo actually possessed a C-grade Hidden Talent—Desperate Escape.

This talent was obtained only by players with a Luck Value of zero, and its effect was straightforward: when a player was in a deadly predicament, there was a chance to obtain a slim chance of survival.

Although it was a C-grade Hidden Talent, it was rarely used by regular players.

For casual players in the Shallow World who didn’t need to undergo life-and-death struggles, this talent was rather useless; however, a flicker of light passed through Han Fei’s eyes as he thought that Shen Luo seemed rather uniquely talented indeed.

"He didn’t have any supernatural-related talents and ended up here purely by his own misfortune. He’s a tough one."

After learning that Han Fei was Level 15, Shen Luo was filled with confidence. He turned to lead the way when suddenly a crisp sound came from the room behind Han Fei.

The Spiritual Altar fell to the ground, and just as Li Zai was about to crawl out, Xu Qin slapped him back in.

"Brother Youfu, did you hear any noise coming from the room?" Shen Luo’s Adam’s apple trembled slightly.

"Don’t be scared, let me introduce her." Han Fei held Xu Qin’s wrist, "This is my family, her name is Xu Qin, and we were planning to do a task together tonight."

"Another big shot?" Shen Luo hurried to greet Xu Qin; just seeing her attire, he felt she was extraordinarily remarkable — her delicate features, her incomparable aura, her manic blood-red pupils, and that indescribable, bone-chilling dark energy...

He vaguely felt something was off, but couldn’t pinpoint what exactly it was. Ultimately, Shen Luo decided to trust Han Fei, as he had no other options left.

Leading the way cautiously, Shen Luo walked ahead while Han Fei and Xu Qin followed behind, as if they were on vacation.

"Shen Luo, what are your plans for your life in the game? What profession are you thinking of transitioning to next?" Han Fei asked seemingly casually.

"I work in finance in the real world, and the pressure is too much. I entered this game to change my life and am thinking of transitioning to a gardener." Shen Luo responded without thinking.

"Working in finance, does a company employ you? I mean, do they pay you a salary?" Han Fei tried to phrase his question as delicately as possible.

"Of course, my annual dividends are the highest in the company."

"That impressive? Do you have a secret to making money?"

"There are no shortcuts to making money." Shen Luo, when it came to his professional work, became very earnest: "I constantly carry out site visits, attend annual and semi-annual report meetings of listed companies, communicate with brokers and industry analysts, summarize all the information, and then make my own careful judgements."

"And then you make money?"

"Then the other fund managers, investment managers, and researchers in our company would come over and based on my judgements, perform operations. They would avoid my choices and go for reverse investments, and afterwards, they would all give me red packets," Shen Luo revealed with a laborer’s hearty smile. "I had thought about changing jobs before, but the boss and my colleagues desperately held me back, refusing to let me go. They said I was the company’s mascot, even if I kept losing money, they wouldn’t let me leave, which was really embarrassing for me."

"Sounds like your company has a good atmosphere."

"Not anymore. The boss got into trouble and ended up in jail, and I don’t know when he will be released. I was very worried about him during his trial, so I went to see him once. The lawyer he hired wasn’t good and got him an additional five years." Shen Luo shook his head: "The boss has been very kind to me, once we get out of this game, I plan to find a lawyer for him at my own expense, trying to reduce his sentence by at least a year."

"Are you planning to get him shot immediately with that reduction?" Han Fei kept his distance from Shen Luo, quickly moving closer to Xu Qin.

The three of them arrived at the seventh floor, and Shen Luo, looking at the room number, finally stopped at room 709.

"Brother Tie, Atang, are you there?"

He knocked lightly on the door, but no one answered for a long time, leaving Shen Luo slightly embarrassed.

"Were you abandoned by them?"

"It probably... won’t happen."

After pressing the doorbell, about a dozen seconds passed, footsteps emerged from room 710 across the corridor, followed by the door of 710 opening slightly.

"Little Shen, come here fast." By the sound of it, it seemed to be an older woman speaking.

Shen Luo led Han Fei toward room 710, but as soon as Shen Luo entered, the room door was suddenly pulled shut.

A deep male voice then emitted from inside: "Who is the person following you? How did you even bring a ghost here! We really should have split up earlier, or you’ll curse me to death sooner or later."

"He is also a player!"

"What kind of player can’t you see the level and attributes of? You know too well how cunning the ghosts in this place can be!"

"He has an item that can hide his level. That elder brother is already level fifteen!" Shen Luo was also agitated, as he had finally managed to bring someone along and didn’t want to scare him off.

"Nonsense, do you know what being level fifteen means? In our game strategy group of five thousand people, the highest level is only fifteen!" The deep voice spoke with a tone of frustration: "’Perfect Life’ was never intended to be about healing and leisure; that was just to fool regular players like you. The game was developed to explore human nature, and I participated in the beta test. The darker human nature is, the more terrifying this game becomes!"

Shen Luo found himself unable to refute the deep voice, but he still wanted to try: "Why don’t you ask him personally? Come and see for yourself whether he is a player or a ghost in disguise."

The room fell silent for a while before the deep voice spoke again: "Alright, I’ll trust you one more time."

The door slowly opened, revealing a towering, muscular man at the entrance. His square face radiated authority, and he was rippling with muscles.

Eying Han Fei, who wore a mask, the man was filled with caution, grabbing a wooden chair inside the room and blocking the doorway with his body.

"I’ll ask you one question—if you can answer it correctly, I’ll believe you’re a player."

A chilling breeze blew through the corridor, cold sweat trickling down the man’s forehead as the atmosphere in the room grew unbearably tense, and the surroundings were deathly silent.

"Listen carefully." The man raised a finger in front of Han Fei: "You have only one chance to speak."

The clock ticked on, and the robust man posed his question: "Guilty by pronouncement, name a public figure."

"Wu Qian."

After hearing Han Fei’s answer, the muscular man let out a long sigh of relief: "Everyone, come out. He indeed is a frequent online surfer and game player; as soon as I mentioned it, he immediately got the answer."

Han Fei was an actor by profession, so he knew some things about the entertainment industry.

Initially, he hadn’t expected to be asked such a question, but on second thought, it made sense that the natives of the Deep World might not know these things.

The muscular man finally opened the door fully, still looking somewhat embarrassed: "I didn’t expect to encounter a top-level player. Sorry for my earlier behavior; don’t take it to heart."

"Being cautious is necessary, especially since this is a Hell-level hidden map."

Han Fei led Xu Qin inside the room, and the muscular man, upon hearing the words "hidden map," lit up but didn’t mind Xu Qin’s unusual behavior.

Looking at the players inside the room, Han Fei shook hands with them one by one, then asked them to introduce themselves.

The players who had rushed in totaled five. The highest level among them was the muscular man, with the game name of Brother Tie, level twelve, primarily adding to his Physical Strength and had already changed his profession to a Fighter, having participated in the beta test and making a living as a Professional Player.

His Luck Attribute was at two points, but critically, this person had a D-grade Hidden Talent called "Defiant," which resulted in him being specifically targeted by supernatural events.

The second highest in level was a student named Yantang, level ten, with an Initial Brainpower as high as nine points, Luck Attribute at two, primarily adding to his Brain Power, but he had not yet changed his profession.

He possessed a peculiar B-grade Hidden Talent called "Daydream," the effect of which was the more he thought about something, the more likely it was to become reality. This bizarre talent was the highest ranking one Han Fei had seen on any player apart from Huang Ying.

The third highest was a short video creator known as Liuli Cat, who was about to reach level ten, with only one point in her Luck Attribute and usually liked to sing and dance, often posting videos of herself performing in various maps of "Perfect Life."

Apart from her Luck Attribute, Liuli Cat’s other attributes were quite ordinary, but Han Fei had seen her Talent before, called "Sleepwalking."

The last player was a bit of a surprise to Han Fei—a woman in her sixties, gaming ID Sister Li, whose son was a senior executive in a company. Because he didn’t have time to accompany her, he bought her the "Perfect Life" game.

But this dutiful child hadn’t expected that Sister Li would be sent into the Deep World at level three.

Sister Li was completely clueless about gaming, and all the trash and Skill Books littering the corridors were thrown out from her Item Bar.

Among the group, however, Sister Li had the highest Luck Value, a full three points.

Her Hidden Talent was called "Mourning." The more intense her longing became, the more likely it was that the person she wanted to see would appear. This was an extremely rare C-grade Hidden Talent.

Looking at the room full of "lucky" players, Han Fei didn’t quite know what to say.

If you say they’re lucky, they couldn’t enjoy a leisurely game and got trapped in the Deep World, teeming with fierce ghosts, constantly at risk of death.

But if you say they’re unlucky, these five people could actually survive and escape from the Death Building to the hotel in the Plastic Surgery Hospital Area.

"Is this what they call a double negative turning positive?" Han Fei calculated the time, planning to first send these five players into the Fog, and then return to complete his mission: "Follow me; I’ll take you to a safe place."

These people would never guess that the safe place Han Fei mentioned was the very place they had struggled so hard to escape.

"Boss, could I add you as a friend?" Brother Tie approached Han Fei, seeking to gather more information related to the hidden map: "To my knowledge, ’Perfect Life’ once had many deleted maps, and those maps might very well conceal the items mentioned in the will of the Chairman of Eternal Life Pharmaceutical."

The day before the game’s public beta, Deep Space Technology and Eternal Life Pharmaceutical announced the will of Eternal Life Pharmaceutical’s late chairman, and all players knew that Eternal Life Pharmaceutical was willing to exchange original shares for the item mentioned in the chairman’s will.

"Think about other things once you’re safe," Han Fei felt a sharp chill emanate from his ring, aware that something was rapidly approaching: "Don’t talk; when I tell you to run, you must hurry downstairs."
