Chapter 417: Whose Face Did You Steal?

Chapter 417: Chapter 417: Whose Face Did You Steal?

The man pulled out a handkerchief from his pocket, already stained with blood. He skillfully wiped the edges of the wound with the handkerchief, suggesting this wasn’t the first time he had done this.

With a somber face as dark as ink, the man walked out of the women’s restroom just in time to see Han Fei, his teeth clenched, his eyes filled with undisguised hatred.

It had been his idea to impersonate a victim’s relative to attack Han Fei. He had spent a lot of money and planned for a long time, but not only had he failed to ruin Han Fei, he had also elevated Han Fei’s popularity to new heights, which infuriated him greatly.

"You’ve built a nice public image, but remember, the more people like your image, the more they will despise you when it collapses." He tried to stay calm, recovering from the abnormal state he had just been in.

"Is that why you ran into the women’s restroom?" Han Fei pulled out his phone, which was recording, and switched it to video mode, "A company CEO, and you have this kind of hobby?"

"I just walked into the wrong one," the man said, tossing the handkerchief into a trash bin, his face turning somewhat green with anger.

Just as he was about to say something else, his phone suddenly began to vibrate again.

Glancing at the caller ID, the man quickly walked past Han Fei, only answering the call after putting some distance between them.

"I know, give me those white shoes, I’ll take care of them!"

"Damn bad luck, not a single thing goes smoothly."

The man argued with the woman on the other end of the phone, and as he rounded the corner, suddenly, a noise came from the men’s restroom—heavy like something had been overturned.

Han Fei thought the painter should still be in the restroom, so he immediately went to check, but to his surprise, only a knocked-over bucket of water was inside.

"What happened?"

Exiting the restroom, Han Fei looked down the other end of the hallway.

The man, still on the phone, did not enter the main venue but instead headed towards the underground parking garage behind the venue. Not far behind him, the painter appeared again, carrying a small bucket filled with red paint.

Even though the painter followed him so suspiciously, the man was completely unaware, still arguing with the woman on the phone.

"Didn’t the painter go into the restroom with him? When did he come out?"

Han Fei felt this situation was not so simple. His mind was now fixated on what the man had just mentioned—Mr. Butterfly, who lived on the 24th floor, and the child with white shoes.

"What’s the relationship between the child with white shoes and Mr. Butterfly? Why is he looking for Mr. Butterfly? Is that painter the one with white shoes?"

Thinking this, Han Fei looked again at the painter, and indeed, he saw the man was wearing a pair of white shoes.

Without hesitation, Han Fei immediately followed them, as they were about to enter the underground parking lot, a hand grabbed Han Fei’s shoulder.

"What are you doing here? The event is about to start, Director Zhang has saved a spot just for you by his side." Bai Xian had entered earlier, but after waiting a while and not seeing Han Fei come in, he found it strange, so he came out to look.

"I came here on a shuttle bus with other staff, but I remember you drove here yourself?" Han Fei showed no intention of going back to the hall.

"Yeah, what’s wrong?" Bai Xian looked at Han Fei blankly, unable to grasp what Han Fei was thinking.

"Tonight’s event is just a warm-up activity, and with your capabilities, you’ll definitely be eligible for nomination and the grand prize," Han Fei spoke quickly.

"Indeed," Bai Xian felt emotional. "I’ve been a runner-up for several years now, always getting nominated, but the final award always eludes me."

"Since you’re certain to be selected, missing tonight’s event shouldn’t be a problem. I see many top leaders didn’t show up either," Han Fei said, grabbing Bai Xian’s arm, seemingly not wanting Bai Xian to leave.

Originally, Bai Xian had come to call Han Fei back, but now it was his arm that was seized by Han Fei.

"That’s true, but I’m not a top actor yet, so I still need to attend these events..."

"Brother Bai, are you interested in doing something big with me?" There was a glint in Han Fei’s eyes, and his tone made it hard to refuse.

"Now?"

"Yes, you drive, and we’ll follow that man ahead to see where he’s headed," Han Fei said, pulling Bai Xian towards the underground parking lot. "That man seems off; if not handled properly, something might go wrong."

"Are you planning to capture a fugitive?" Bai Xian was shocked. He had played many roles, but doing such a thing in reality was a first for him.

"Hurry! He’s getting in his car!" Han Fei quickened his pace. "You just need to drive; leave the rest to me."

"But Director Zhang reserved seats for both of us, and if neither of us goes..." Bai Xian was a fine actor and generally a good person. He reacted like any normal person would, filled with concerns. But by the time he realized it, he was already being dragged by Han Fei into the parking garage.

"Where’s your car?" Han Fei kept his eyes on the man. The painter who had been following him had now disappeared, but eerily, the man’s walking posture alternated between seductive and staggered, as if there were two different souls inside his head fighting for control of his body.

By the time the man’s car left the parking garage, Bai Xian was already driving Han Fei, following the man.

"Logically, I should be in the Golden Hall right now." Bai Xian had never imagined that he would one day be tracking someone; he was always the one being followed by paparazzi.

Despite expressing various concerns, Bai Xian was fully focused on following the man.

His trust in Han Fei was mainly because Han Fei had done too many righteous hero deeds, almost like a legend; he felt that since he had encountered such a situation, he should also contribute his part.

The car left the main venue and headed towards the outskirts of the Smart District.

"He’s supposedly the boss of a company; how can he not afford a house in the Smart District?"

"Maybe he’s not going home but preparing to go somewhere else," Han Fei stared intensely at the other’s license plate, unsure if he was mistaken, but he had a strong feeling that the painter was hiding in the man’s car.

Driving on the main road, the man left the Smart District, and his speed began to soar, apparently heading for Xinhu Far Suburb.

The buildings on either side of the road gradually became lower, the lighting softened considerably, and many residential buildings remained dark at night, far from the city center, with a low population density.

"Are we still following?" Bai Xian’s palms sweated; he rarely drove this fast and felt nervous.

"Of course."

When the two were conversing, the video inside the car was connected, and Director Zhang’s voice came through, "Bai Xian, where are you? Didn’t I ask you to find Han Fei? Why have you disappeared too? I’m sitting right in the middle, with both sides empty. Others might think I booked three seats just for myself!"

"I found Han Fei, but I might not be able to return for now," Bai Xian was totally focused on driving, his voice trembling slightly, "We’re almost at the suburb."

"Suburb?" Director Zhang’s voice changed.

"Director Zhang, I discovered a very suspicious person near the main venue, and he seems related to a previous case, so I asked Brother Bai to drive after him," Han Fei explained the situation clearly to Director Zhang, but Director Zhang still couldn’t grasp the situation after listening.

"We’re going to catch a fugitive, you could put it that way," Bai Xian said somewhat nervously.

"Is it so sudden?" Director Zhang didn’t know what to do. The event had already started, and it was just his turn to go on stage, so Director Zhang helplessly hung up the video.

"Director Zhang is an old hand, he can definitely handle this small problem," Han Fei was unconcerned about Director Zhang.

"Hopefully," Bai Xian felt as if he had boarded a thief’s ship; he just kept his head down and drove forward.

The traffic on the road gradually thinned out, and the lights on both sides almost completely disappeared, as they drove directly from Xinhu Smart City District to Xinhu North Suburb.

After bypassing several small roads, the man drove into a large semi-abandoned leisure park.

There were several sanatoriums, children’s paradise, and Eternal Life Pharmaceutical had built technology museums and resorts here.

This place must have been particularly beautiful before, but now it was almost desolate, with no person in sight, and only the occasional faint light flashing by.

"Where is that guy going?"

It was truly frightening to come to such a place at night. Bai Xian followed the man from a distance; they circled the roads for quite a while before finally entering deep into the park.

After driving a few hundred meters more, the man’s car finally stopped. He took out a huge suitcase from the trunk and limped into a building.

"Could there be a body inside that suitcase?" Bai Xian’s voice seemed to tremble; after all, he was just an innocent actor, "Should we call the police?"

"I already notified the police when I got into the car," Han Fei squinted his eyes, "Drive a bit further forward, then just stay in the car, I’ll go down and check."

Bai Xian obediently drove further forward, but he hadn’t gone far when he suddenly saw someone in a bright red dress waving at him from the middle of the road.

Slamming on the brakes, Bai Xian stared ahead; cold sweat had already broken out.

"There’s... there’s someone, a person in the middle of the road!" Bai Xian became slightly agitated, but when he looked forward again, there was nothing on the road.

He hurriedly turned on the car’s surveillance to check, but the surveillance captured nothing.

"That’s not right! I really saw it!" Bai Xian gripped the steering wheel, veins bulging on the back of his hands, "Did you see it just now?"

Han Fei said nothing; he stared at the car’s surveillance, and although the screen didn’t show the person, it had captured a blurry shadow.

"There’s a blurry figure here. I saw something similar when I was filming in the Meat Factory Courtyard for Family," Han Fei tried to reassure Bai Xian, "It might just be a ghost, nothing serious. I thought it was a fraudster at first."

"Nothing serious?"

Bai Xian wanted to speak, but Han Fei cut him off directly; he stopped dwelling on the surveillance, "Just stay in the car and wait for police support, I’ll go and check it out."

"Or... I will go with you," Bai Xian, having just watched the surveillance, had a forehead full of cold sweat. He truly didn’t dare to stay alone in the car now.

"Don’t force yourself."

"I’m not forcing myself; I’m volunteering," Bai Xian unbuckled his seatbelt and followed Han Fei out of the car, sticking close behind him.

"If we encounter any danger later, just run, don’t worry about me." Han Fei and Bai Xian quickly walked to where the man had parked his car, curious to see what was inside the car, but unfortunately, the car windows were specially made, and nothing could be seen from outside.

"A boss of an entertainment company, why would he come to such a place at night? Is it the feminine personality controlling him now, or his normal self?"

Han Fei harbored many doubts, and he believed the answers lay with that man.

"Did he just enter this building?"

In the deepest part of the park, after passing through a large forest, there stood a building filled with a sense of art.

The unique beauty of the East was fully exemplified on this building, though it had been closed for a long time, time and the years still couldn’t conceal its uniqueness.

"Building this structure must have cost a lot of money." Han Fei prepared to move forward, but suddenly realized that Bai Xian was still standing in place, "What’s wrong?"

"I remember now, isn’t this the Plastic Surgery Hospital that Eternal Life Pharmaceutical built before?" Bai Xian seemed to know this place, "Over a dozen years ago, this clinic had a batch of high-end clients, and to get their card you needed a referral and to verify your assets."

"Plastic surgery with asset verification?"

"It wasn’t just simple plastic surgery; they offered many other services, the most famous being Personality Reshaping. They claimed to be able to change a child’s personality from a young age, giving them the best character possible," Bai Xian added after a pause, "I heard that many children in Xinhu had undergone similar services back then, and they indeed became the best among their peers."

"Do you know anyone who has had it done?"

"Such things are definitely kept secret. Who would publicly talk about their child having had personality reshaping?"

"Do you know why this hospital was shut down?" Han Fei moved forward with Bai Xian slowly, the closer they got to the building, the more uncomfortable he felt. It reminded him of his first time entering the Meat Factory Courtyard for Family.

"It seems it was because a child went mad. Actually, this hospital had many incidents, but they were all suppressed," Bai Xian shivered, "Let’s not talk about these frightening things anymore, shall we go back and wait in the car?"

"Just wait a moment," Han Fei crouched down and peered through the crack in the door into the building. Someone had written a chilling phrase on the screen inside with red paint—Whose face did you steal?

Apart from that phrase, there were many dirty white shoes scattered on the ground.

Seeing this, Han Fei clenched his fingers tightly; he was now regretting not having stashed a baton inside his suit when he changed clothes.

But Han Fei wasn’t completely unprepared; he pulled a tactical pen from his trousers pocket, held it in reverse grip, and slowly pushed open the door of the building.
