Chapter 360: Chapter 360 Han Fei, Not Dead Yet (Second Update)
"I can help you find the head; I know where it is," Han Fei said again, revealing his bargaining chip. In the Death Building Game, the Gate God had even promised to fulfill Han Fei’s wishes to enlist his help, which made Han Fei’s mind actively engage.
The Gate God, whose shoulders bore a vaguely flesh and blood head, did not speak again. It looked at Han Fei with those bloodstained eyes; as if it wanted to see through him.
"I really can help you."
"Did my head also beg you like this?" A sudden phrase emerged from the rotting mouth.
Han Fei couldn’t understand the Gate God’s meaning, but he nodded anyway.
"I just knew it was looking for me too," the Gate God laughed through the borrowed mouth of the head. "In fact, I should thank the one who chopped off my head. Without it, I wouldn’t have been born. My intention in confirming the head’s location is not to have it returned; I want to completely kill it."
"What do you mean?"
"A new consciousness has been born in this body, which is me; now I am the true Gate God of the Death Building. That head only possesses my past memories," the Gate God’s body said as it began to merge with the door of room 4044. "I don’t need you to help me retrieve the head; I just need you to conceal my existence and take me to find it."
"Okay, no problem," Han Fei agreed decisively.
"Survive tonight first; being targeted by the Soul Chaser means you are also one of its choices," the Gate God’s neck tilted forward, and he reached out to steady the head.
"Its choice? Gate God, I was just captured and lost three spirits, tonight I have to..." Han Fei had finally found a ’person’ he could converse with, like a drowning man clutching at a branch on the shore.
"I can’t tell you; I can only say that tonight, both the dead and the living will appear inside the building. The living will remember they are alive and will hide at home to sleep, but the dead often forget they have died. They will repeat their past actions based on their previous memories. If you want to survive tonight, it’s best to stay closer to the living and farther from the dead," the Gate God’s body almost entirely merged with the door of room 4044, its head looking at Han Fei with a half-smile.
Han Fei always felt that the Gate God must have discovered something in his ’Brain Sea,’ as the Gate God’s attitude towards him had shifted significantly. Initially, Han Fei was an ant in the Gate God’s eyes; now, he had enough value to be used.
"Is that all?"
"You should start moving as soon as possible; your soul is likely also under the Death Building’s Death Curse by now. As time progresses, they will slowly forget they are merely your spirits, and begin to develop their consciousness, just like me and my head," the head on the Gate God’s neck revealed a sinister smile. "My head wants to find back the body to reign over itself; but I want to kill my head and exist this way."
"They will also have their own consciousness?" Han Fei realized he had underestimated the difficulty of this Level E mission. The system’s notices were just a small part; a large portion hadn’t been mentioned!
"Of course, better get moving," the Gate God’s hand gripped the head on his neck, pulling it off as long blood silk slowly retracted back into the body. "Let me tell you one last thing—I just saw one of your spirits run into room 4064."
"4064?" Han Fei also looked up, seeing only the walls returning to normal. "How did you see that?"
"Soon you will also be able to see those things. You’re currently in a state of losing your soul, on the brink between life and death. Tonight, you will see some things you couldn’t see before, such as the Soul Chaser. But you must be careful, looking is okay, but if you step beyond that threshold, you can never go back," the Gate God’s body completely merged with room 4044, his hand’s head deforming slowly.
"On the brink of death? Then, right before a living person’s death, during the last moments when the consciousness fades, might they experience something like what I’m going through now?" Han Fei kept watching the Gate God. He still felt something odd in the Gate God’s tone, as if something was being concealed. "Gate God, you seem quite interested in things related to the living?"
"Actually, I’ve always enjoyed interacting with people."
"Really enjoyed?"
"All these heads on the ground, isn’t each one a human head?"
"That’s indeed true."
The dialogue between Han Fei and the Gate God carried a heavy Death Building aura, distinctly remarkable upon hearing.
"Gate God, can you tell me what exactly is inside room 4044? Perhaps I can go through the door of room 4044..."
Before Han Fei could finish, the blood and flesh-blurred head was crushed directly by the Gate God, merging into the door’s blood silk and transforming as if it had never appeared, seamlessly reverting to being part of the door’s ’Gate Heart.’
"Is it gone?" Han Fei took a deep breath, his high-strung heart finally settling down. Only then did he realize his back was soaked with cold sweat, his clothes clinging tightly to his skin.
What constituted a Healing game? To come online for three minutes, hovering around the edge of death countless times—it’s no wonder anyone surviving through this game would cherish real life.
"4064 room, did one of my spirits run into the sixth floor?" Han Fei glanced at the mission panel. He thought he had completed a mission and just needed to stay for three hours to log off, but then, looking at his character status, he discovered a line—The player is in a special state, unable to exit the game.
Struggling to suppress the urge to curse, Han Fei immediately set off towards the sixth floor.
"It seems I won’t see the logout button light up until I gather all three lost spirits,"
Although everything, from his gaze to his expression, seemed as if he was about to curse, Han Fei was still very clear-headed.
This task at least served as a warning—if memories in his ’Brain Sea,’ or rather ’spirit,’ were stolen by a Ghost and Monster of the Deep World, his incomplete self couldn’t log off.
Unable to use the Levelless most powerful Divine Skill to log off, Han Fei now tensed every nerve, more focused than he had ever been before.
After the Gate God returned to the door, the fourth-floor corridor completely returned to normal, just like any ordinary hallway, except the floor was littered with Paperman-folded heads, resembling crushed white lanterns.
Han Fei dared not waste any time; he concealed the Rebirth Saber, avoiding the phone used by the Soul Chaser, and entered the safety passage.
But before he could even start moving upwards, that somewhat piercing dirge already drifted down from above.
The dirge, audible to everyone inside the building, mixed with the Gesheng only Han Fei could hear. After listening for a while, Han Fei oddly felt the two seemed rather well-matched.
