Chapter 359: Chapter 359: The Child Raised by Nightmare (First Update)

"Soul-returning Night (Level E Main Quest): Today is April 4th, the fourteenth year after the Death Building’s managerial changeover, it has waited exactly fourteen years for this night, it has finally found a suitable body, and it has also seen that blurred figure in the future."

"Task Requirement One: You are currently neither alive nor dead, and you must retrieve your lost three souls and three spirits before dawn. Please set out as soon as possible, as they may have already been summoned into a room in the Death Building. If even one soul dissipates, you will never be able to exit the game."

"Task Requirement Two: Prevent the Soul-returning Ceremony. If it successfully returns to life, the first one it kills will be you."

"Task Requirement Three: On this special night, the boundary between the dead and the living will become extremely blurred. You will stand on the brink of life and death, witnessing death firsthand. Please try to find as many living people in the Death Building before dawn as possible."

"Task Tip: It is very difficult to kill it, because to live in the hearts of the living is to never die."

"Attention! Due to a large discrepancy between player level and task level! Additional task tip—Butterfly."

"I was born with a special ability, not needing to blindfold my eyes to see a world that is pitch black."

"I know I have a deformed body and am well aware of my biological parents’ disgust and disdain."

"They left me with stripes of red and black calluses, saying this would make me more pleasant and beautiful."

"Day after day, while black blossoms opened on my swollen skull, they stood before my face, discussing how to deal with my corpse."

"I also tried to please them, pretending to forget the words spoken that night, but amnesia brought abandonment; it turns out that they were so eager to sever ties with me."

"My fragmented body was thrown from the cliff. I tried my best to spread my torn arms, scattering flesh and Blood Pearls around, desperately twisting my head to let them also see the wings I had grown."

"Falling into the valley of nightmares, Nightmares and Devils gazed at the silent me, wondering why I didn’t struggle and cry for help? I wondered why they would ask such a question?"

"Isn’t every child in this world just like me?"

"From birth shut in a cocoon, until finally growing wings?"

"Attention! This task is one of the most important tasks in the early stages of the game! Please handle it with extreme care!"

Butterfly is a monster nurtured by nightmares, possessing a soul so ugly it suffocates, and it is precisely because of the deformities in its soul and body that it has painted itself with the brightest patterns.

When the reminder in Han Fei’s Brain Sea sounded, he got distracted and listened, growing more and more surprised as he listened.

The first task tip seemed to provide a way to kill Butterfly, while the second revealed Butterfly’s past.

Upon reflection, each sentence in the second tip contained a great deal of information, but Han Fei had no time to ponder deeply at the moment, his attention completely captured by another sentence.

"If one of the lost souls dies, then I will never be able to exit the game?"

If there is anything in this world more terrifying than death, it is being locked in the Death Building forever.

The reason Han Fei could maintain hope in his heart owed much to the fact that he could disconnect.

Just like how work always ends at the close of the day, as long as one doesn’t suddenly die on the job, at least there is something to look forward to.

"I can ensure I won’t act recklessly, but I can’t guarantee what those souls pulled from my body might do!" Han Fei actually hadn’t figured out exactly what those souls were. He didn’t feel like he was missing anything. If a soul is a crystallization of memories, what memories were contained in the three souls that were extracted?"

"I must find those three souls quickly!"

Just as this thought entered Han Fei’s mind, he suddenly felt a bone-chilling cold seep into the back of his neck.

Turning around, he saw the sharp Beheading Saber suspended right in front of him. Had he stepped back just a moment ago, the blade would have directly hit his flesh.

The Headless Gate God stood next to Han Fei, and the severed heads on the ground all stared at him with wide eyes as strands of Blood Silk appeared out of nowhere and burrowed into his brain through his ears!

"Warning!"

The system seemed to issue a pre-warning. In that instant, Han Fei couldn’t make out what the system had announced; all he felt was an intense pain in both ears, temporarily deafening him. He couldn’t hear anything.

His body fell to the ground, and Han Fei clutched his ears, blood dripping through his fingers.

Enduring the intense pain, Han Fei stared fixedly at the Gate God, gripping the Rebirth Slaughter Saber tightly in his hand.

He was indeed very afraid and very weak compared to the Gate God, but that wasn’t going to make him give up.

Even a god shouldn’t deprive a person of the right to survive.

The body of the Gate God trembled slightly, then it stepped back a few paces to stop beside the door of room 4044, as if it had just recalled something particularly unpleasant.

The severed heads around Han Fei slowly moved aside, each head sporting a strange expression, greed and hesitation evident on their faces, eventually morphing into smiles.

Strands of Blood Silk slid out of Han Fei’s ears, and the Gate God seemed to have gotten what it wanted.

By then, the Soul Chaser’s Soul Bell had shattered, and mournful music was drawing near, as if something was coming down from the floors above.

The Gate God stood by the door of room 4044. Once the last strand of Blood Silk returned to its body, the door of room 4044 cracked open slightly.

All the blood and severed heads in the hallway surged toward the crack, until finally, only one severed head remained on the floor.

That head looked much like what Han Fei remembered the Gate God’s head to look like, its features blurred and bloodied, which was quite ghastly to behold.

After a few seconds of eye contact, the Gate God picked up the gory severed head and placed it on its own neck.

The Blood Silk that had emerged from Han Fei’s ears plunged into the head, and the mangled face gradually began to resemble that of Han Fei.

This bizarre situation left Han Fei somewhat at a loss. He was considering whether to seize the chance to escape, but he glanced again at the huge Beheading Saber in the Gate God’s hand and ultimately dismissed the idea, knowing the Gate God could easily let him run three meters before swinging the blade.

"Don’t be afraid, I just want to make sure you haven’t lied to me," the bloodied head suddenly spoke, seemingly in an effort to show sincerity, the Gate God withdrew the saber.

"Did you peek into my memories?"

"No, I was about to sift through your memories when I sensed a very terrifying and familiar aura from you. It was that same aura that beheaded me, so I believe you weren’t lying," the Gate God, with its gory head, looked quite terrifying.
