Chapter 333: The Dream of Foreseeing Death

Chapter 333: Chapter 333: The Dream of Foreseeing Death

"Shall we go in together and take a look? Aren’t you curious about the Manager’s secrets?" Han Fei asked casually, holding the Rebirth Slaughter Saber.

"No, it’s too dangerous!" the bridal ghost spoke directly, interrupting quicker than Han Fei had ever seen before.

"It is indeed quite dangerous, how about we find someone to scout the area first?" Han Fei took out the cursed Pet Chain from his Item Bar, which was covered with animal fur and looked eerily chilling, "I am the Security Guard of this community, and it’s my responsibility to protect the Owners here, but we can catch a ’person’ who isn’t an owner, tie her up with the chain, and send her in."

Han Fei didn’t mention the black-clothed old woman, but she felt as though he was talking about her. If she remembered correctly, Han Fei had just mentioned that once she left Building One, she would no longer be an owner of the building.

"I think it’s possible, but why would a Security Guard carry a chain?" Madman crouched by the bed, grabbing a sheet to cover himself; he was seen as a Madman by the Owners who were Fierce Ghosts, but he was not foolish: "Ordinary chains probably wouldn’t be much use, I’ve been into that wardrobe before, but I could only walk a few steps before inexplicably fainting. By the time I woke up, I was lying on the bed outside the wardrobe."

"You’ve been in there?"

"Room 1144 often ends up with extra bits of flesh and limbs, and initially, I had no idea where they came from until the day I hid in the wardrobe out of fear and discovered it led somewhere else."

Madman struggled to remember: "It’s hard to describe, it feels like the wardrobe contains a nightmare, and once you fall asleep, various things will crawl out of it. They would linger at the edge of your pillow to check if you’re asleep and wander around your bed. Some would even crawl into your blanket. When you suddenly feel a chill, do not turn on the light and look under the blanket. I was terrified by it once."

His casual words made one’s skin crawl upon deeper consideration of the scene.

Madman sat cross-legged on the bed, looking at Han Fei and the other "people" in the room. After a long while, he suddenly said, "The wardrobe used to only open after four in the morning, but it seems there has been a problem these past few days."

"Think carefully, when exactly did the problem start occurring?"

"It seems to have started the day you became the Security Guard; since then, the doors haven’t been able to close completely."

Madman’s words reminded Han Fei of something; Madman was a fallback set by the Manager for himself, and the wardrobe was a passage.

Ever since Han Fei had entered the building, the door to the passage had always remained open, indicating that the Death Building Manager felt threatened.

"The day I arrived, Gesheng also entered Death Building, and the Manager must have felt pressure from it. Thinking about it, bringing Gesheng here was indeed a brilliant move." Madman was a fallback for the Manager, and Han Fei aimed to understand the environment inside the wardrobe and then ambush within, to intercept the severely wounded Manager halfway.

He was very courageous; he wasn’t afraid of any Manager, he was here to replace the Death Building’s Manager.

His cold gaze unintentionally moved towards the black-clothed old woman, while the Pet Chain in Han Fei’s hand clinked: "Who should go in first?"

"The Death Building Manager’s trump card isn’t the only one of its kind, there are other similar wardrobes in the community. Even if you enter one, it’s not certain you’ll encounter the Manager, and you might expose yourself and put yourself in danger," the black-clothed old woman had figured out how to talk to Han Fei by now. The man before her wasn’t afraid of danger or death, convincing him required laying out the facts.

"Weren’t you planning to leave Building One?" Han Fei narrowed his eyes and glanced at the man in black, "Why aren’t you leaving?"

"I’ve dreamt of leaving the Death Building, but not in this manner." The man in black touched the butterfly pattern on his neck, "You’ve turned Building One upside down; you could become a Security Guard or even the Building Chief if you want. But we are different from you; you are a complete Soul. We are merely flower pots used to contain seeds."

Han Fei wasn’t the kind of person who was unreasonable. Seeing that the man in black was willing to disclose the secrets of the building, he began to listen patiently.

"I’ve lived in the Death Building for a long time and have seen many changes. What I’m about to say, you might not believe." The man in black stooped and sighed gently, "Each room in the Death Building is a heart, housing all the memories and pain of the residents. We didn’t move into the Death Building; we have always been a part of it."

"The previous Death Building Manager was an old man, his heart ashen, and it was his rotting heart that formed the foundation of the Death Building. Later, he left for the depths of the city and never returned."

"About a decade or so ago, a new manager appeared in the Death Building. No one knew from which room it emerged, where its heart was hidden, nor could anyone completely kill it."

"Since that night, the rules of the Death Building changed—all hearts and memories became tools for the Manager’s amusement."

"It never personally takes life, nor does it use its Power to scatter Souls, but don’t think it’s out of mercy. The Grudges that fall into its hands wish they could scatter their own Souls." The man in black remembered something and fear flashed in her eyes while her Soul Body trembled incessantly.

"Do you know why it doesn’t kill?" Han Fei was curious—Butterfly, too, would commit heinous acts without staining their hands with blood.

"There is a legend about the Manager inside the building; I’m not sure if it’s true." The man in black hesitated for a moment before speaking, "The last bit of Hatred inside the Death Building seemed to have left a clue before scattering its soul: the Manager’s Talent Ability is related to dreams, and it saw its own death in a prophetic dream."

"Its death?"

"Yes, the manager dreamt that it was chopped up by a saber. That saber is special—it becomes sharper when facing enemies stained with blood."

When the man in black said this, there was no unusual reaction from anyone else in the room. But unlike the others, Han Fei had activated his Master-level Acting, as it was necessary to hide the turmoil inside him.

The saber that the manager dreamt about seemed to be the Rebirth Slaughter Saber!

"The Death Building Manager has been searching for such a saber for years, but to no avail," the man in black said, his eyes full of pain, "Perhaps foreseeing its death, the Manager’s behavior has become increasingly incomprehensible, gradually starting to do crazier things. It seems to want to use the building’s residents as fertilizer to create another being like itself to replace it in death."

The man in black helped Han Fei understand a lot, connecting some previously unrelated things.

Like why Butterfly never personally takes a life and why Spider is so intent on hunting Butterfly—hence the countless slaughter sabers in Beast Alley.
