Chapter 317: I, the Most Dedicated Security Guard in the Death Building (4600)
Chapter 317: Chapter 317: I, the Most Dedicated Security Guard in the Death Building (4600)
The staircase trembled, Blood Silk spread continuously along the walls, and a fierce fight broke out between a Large-scaled Grudge filled with rage and a Monster that had failed its Transformation of Hatred.
The quiet night was broken, the black mist enveloping the building outside stirred, and Han Fei also heard the song from the neighborhood, faint yet persistent!
The black mist had previously enveloped the residential buildings, isolating them from the outside world, but now the disturbance caused by the two grudges was too great; even the black mist could not hide it anymore.
"The song has not left; it is also in the neighborhood!"
Han Fei found his guess was not wrong; the black mist isolated everything, the song had temporarily failed to find him, but it had not given up and left.
Besides the song, screams occasionally came from deep within the black mist, as if something was confronting the song.
Normally, the Building-jumping Ghost and Red Skirt would clash, and the Death Building’s manager would likely intervene, but now it seemed the manager had more important things to do and could no longer manage building one.
"Part of Butterfly’s consciousness is targeting Huang Ying, and the backup it left behind is entangled by the song; now is indeed a good opportunity to explore this place," Han Fei ran towards another staircase, and after running a few meters, suddenly realized that Brother Hua was still behind.
"Brother Hua?"
The appearance of two Large-scaled Grudges on the top floor presented a terrifying scene that deeply affected Brother Hua. At this moment, the range of expressions on his face decreased significantly, leaving only fear and unease.
The more he feared, the more apparent the patterns spreading from the back of his neck became, and his memories and self-awareness were being stolen by the Butterfly Pattern!
The Security Guard was a Flower Pot that met Butterfly’s requirements, and intense fear acted as an accelerant, allowing the seeds in the Flower Pot to bloom and bear fruit faster.
Jin Sheng had once warned Han Fei that the more frightened you are in the Death Building, the more dangerous it becomes.
Han Fei didn’t know what would happen next to Brother Hua, but he still had a favorable impression of this diligent Security Guard.
With the Security Guard’s memories altered by Butterfly, no one knew what Brother Hua used to do, but judging from some of his instinctive reactions, he wasn’t inherently bad.
"I feel a bit of a headache, my body feels light...I, I think there are some things in my mind that I’ve never done before, I also saw...," Brother Hua’s shoulders trembled, his eyes were full of Blood Silk, and dark blotches began to appear on his skin: "I also saw my own moment of death!"
With a slight deformation of the face, Brother Hua’s hands trembled as he reached out towards Han Fei: "I, I..."
"Smack!"
Holding a rubber stick, Han Fei aimed at Brother Hua’s palm and struck hard.
The pain immediately made Brother Hua withdraw his hands, and a hint of confusion appeared on his transforming face: "Why did you hit me?"
"Does it hurt?"
"It hurts!"
"If it hurts, then you’re still okay; now’s not the time to talk about those things, let’s get away from this floor!" If it weren’t for the fear of accidentally causing brain damage by hitting the head, Han Fei would have aimed there.
Since a rubber stick can’t harm Ghosts and Monsters, the fact that Brother Hua could feel pain meant he was still caught in the memories woven by Butterfly; he hadn’t completely collapsed yet, and there was still a need to rescue him.
Living in the Deep World, Han Fei could only make decisions in this simplest of ways.
Rough, but effective.
Leaving Brother Hua to his wild thoughts might lead him to be controlled by the patterns; this was already the best outcome.
The three Security Guards ran towards the other side of the hallway, with Han Fei carrying Xiaofang, rushing the fastest.
As the time approached 4:44 AM, the modern decoration in the building visibly aged at a rapid pace, white wall coverings began to peel off, exposing the strange and terrifying blood-colored graffiti underneath and various phrases of mental disarray.
The owners of rooms 1044 and 1244 struggled for life and death, accelerating the transformation of the entire building; the crevices between the floor tiles and the ceiling began to show a reddish tinge, as if blood were spreading.
The other residents in the building had also become active, an assortment of noises and strange sounds invading the ears, making everyone seem as if they had gone mad!
Upon leaving the 24th floor, Han Fei looked back to see fragments of Red Skirt scattered everywhere, like blood-red snow floating in the hallway.
But no matter how many times the Building-jumping Ghost tore Red Skirt apart, she could regenerate, and her aura of Grudge grew increasingly heavier.
Everything was just as the Security Guards had said, no matter how they sent Red Skirt away, she would still return.
As Han Fei looked back, he discovered an even more terrifying sight: the two massively-scaled Grudges were moving in his direction while locked in a deadly struggle.
It seemed they both wanted to personally kill the three Security Guards, and their fight was not only an outlet for their anger and resentment but also a battle for the right to slaughter.
"This place is really not for the faint-hearted!"
Turning his gaze away, Han Fei ran into the stairwell without stopping.
He kept recalling the mission requirements; he needed to complete a comprehensive patrol mission before he could exit the game.
But this task wasn’t just about running around the stairs; according to the patrol regulations in the Security Guard’s room, they needed to check every floor’s surveillance and fire safety equipment, recording all damaged items. If the Owners had issues or needs, they also had to offer assistance as much as possible.
With the Building-jumping Ghost and the F-ranked task as examples, Han Fei did not dare to be careless, keeping an eye on the surveillance and surroundings as he ran.
His memory was far superior to the average person’s, so remembering whether items were damaged and the severity of such damages was not hard for him.
The real challenge for him was encountering other Owners. As a security guard, his duty was to protect the Owners, and if there were demands from them, he had to provide help, just as Brother Hua had done before.
After completing the night patrol mission, there was a chance to acquire a special hidden profession—Death Building Security Guard, and he was now delving deeper into the responsibilities of this role.
As he rushed to the 23rd floor, Han Fei saw a face near the safety door. As he passed by, the safety door was also about to be pushed open.
Turning around with a flying kick, Han Fei closed the safety door: "There’s a ghost on the rooftop! Someone has died! Stay home safely!"
He was certainly not avoiding trouble; his earnest heart was filled with care and love for the Owners.
Racing down the aging staircase, the steps became increasingly wet and slippery, the motion-sensor light above flickering on and off. When he reached the 22nd floor, he heard a child’s cry around the stairwell corner.
It was a little boy dressed in a floral outfit, his body and arms covered in bruises, constantly crying out "Mom, Mom..."
In this situation, Han Fei couldn’t possibly help him find his mother, but it was also inappropriate to just ignore the child.
As he passed by the child, Han Fei grabbed the collar of the boy’s shirt: "Come on! Brother Security Guard will take you to your mom!"
Grabbed by Han Fei, the boy cried even harder, and while he was still struggling, he was handed over to Xiaofang. Han Fei had one more person to carry on his back.
"Brother Bai..." Xiaofang, looking at the boy next to him, felt a profound respect for Han Fei in such dangerous circumstances, still choosing to save others was truly admirable.
Come to think of it, wasn’t he too saved by Han Fei?
"In this world, there really are people like Brother Bai!"
In the instant Han Fei was carrying the child away, the safety door on the 22nd floor was smashed open, and a woman covered in Dark Energy and wielding a syringe charged out.
Her face was disfigured, with clear Butterfly Patterns on her arms. She had been ambushing behind the door, and had Han Fei hesitated even slightly, he might have been pierced by that syringe.
The child was merely a lure to make people pause, and who knows what that woman had been through to become so twisted.
But that no longer mattered, now that she had missed her target and the child had been carried away!
Having lived in the building for so many years, it was her first time encountering such an atrocious incident.
As the woman with the syringe dashed out, Brother Hua had just arrived, frightened to the point of trembling, then he saw the woman chasing downstairs.
The cries of the child were loud, and Han Fei faintly heard some noise behind him, but he dared not stop.
"Brother Bai, it seems like the child’s family is chasing after us?"
"Just run! Don’t worry about it!" Han Fei swore he said this out of goodwill, "There is a ghost upstairs, if she chases after us and goes back home, she might just bump into those two grudges. Following us might actually save her life."
"Brother Bai, you really think things through!"
"After all, we are the security guards of this community."
In the blink of an eye, Han Fei had already run up to the twentieth floor. The even-numbered floors had no voice-activated lights, and the security door on this floor was still open.
Without getting closer, Xiaofang already had a bad premonition.
As they passed by, a wet arm stretched out from the darkness, foul-smelling black hair stuck to the cheek, and a pale face looked at Han Fei and Xiaofang.
"They left me alone in that cold place, folding, bending, just me alone, counting the knife scars on my back..."
Before she could finish speaking, Han Fei reached out and grabbed the woman’s wrist.
"Touch the secrets deep within the soul!"
With unsuspecting resolve, he pulled with all his might, and by the time the woman reacted, she was already lying on top of Xiaofang.
Wet black hair stuck to Xiaofang’s forehead, which was perhaps the closest contact he had with a woman in over twenty years, yet he dared not look back.
"Brother, Brother Bai..." Xiaofang was chilling all over, the numbness lost from being touched by the woman was slowly returning, but the first thing he felt was an icy, bone-chilling coldness!
Carrying three people on his back, Han Fei’s waist was also bent, but he dare not linger.
Running past the nineteenth floor, the eighteenth floor corridor was scattered with paper money, the mourner emerged from the darkness, but he had only walked halfway when he saw Han Fei carrying many people and "things."
The expression on his face slightly hardened, and the step he was taking vaguely seemed to be retracting.
Han Fei also saw the mourner; without Red Skirt in his hands, carrying through with the wedding joy wouldn’t be possible. But he wasn’t scared and shouted loudly at the mourner.
"Together?"
The mourner was wealthy, Han Fei wanted to take him along, but the mourner seemed to misunderstand, thinking Han Fei wanted to do something odd.
Showing a troubled expression, he shook his head and spat three times to the side. Those superstitious "people" usually only react like this when they encounter something extremely ominous.
"The ghost is upstairs! You better head home quickly!"
Han Fei did not forget to give a final admonition before running off. After he left, footsteps sounded again, and the mourner’s greedy eyes looked behind him, almost having a giant syringe jab into his head.
"Scram!" The woman holding the syringe charged downstairs madly; the mourner dodged and immediately turned back to close the security door, apparently planning to go home and check the lunar calendar before coming out again.
Han Fei ran desperately downstairs, carrying more and more "things" on his back. If it had been just one or two, Han Fei might have been attacked, but with so many, no one dared to make a move.
It was tough on Xiaofang, the young security guard whose memory had been tampered with felt enormous pressure from being surrounded by layers.
Following behind, Brother Hua was also shocked. Along the way, the things Han Fei was carrying had completely covered him. From behind, he looked like a moving "human" mountain.
Having successfully made it to the first floor, Han Fei created a miracle, but the night patrol was not yet over.
"Two grudges are clashing on the rooftop! I’ve done my utmost to help you all!"
Han Fei’s words were not intended for the owners to hear; he wanted to tell the system that this was his way of caring for and helping the owners.
"Brother Hua! Do you have the keys to the stairway doors? Let’s get the neighbors out!" Han Fei shouted as he ran forward.
Brother Hua couldn’t see Han Fei; he could only hear Han Fei’s voice coming out from within the crowd, "To prevent any accidents, all the keys to the public safety doors are kept inside building four’s security room!"
There was no way out, and no way to send all these owners away. Han Fei didn’t know what to do.
Just then, footsteps echoed from another staircase, and a deliveryman carrying a huge corpse box emerged from the corridor.
He habitually leaned against the nearby security door, pressing his entire body against the door panel, with his eyes peering outside through the peephole.
"Is anyone home? Your delivery has arrived... if no one’s there, I’m coming in!"
Fingernails scratched at the door panel, and hands reached out from the delivery box, all grabbing the doorknob together.
"Deliveryman!"
As the door was pulled open, Han Fei, carrying half the building’s owners, rushed over.
"It was you who killed Red Skirt! It was you who sneaked into everyone’s home! Today, we finally caught you red-handed!"
The moment Han Fei saw the Delivery Ghost, he thought of something: patrolling at night only required helping the community’s owners, which was the duty of a security guard, but there was another ghost inside the building who wasn’t an owner.
If you wanted to let everyone vent their anger and resentment, wasn’t the Delivery Ghost, who killed Red Skirt, the perfect target?
Justice might be delayed, but it never fails to appear.
With this thought in mind, Han Fei charged at the Delivery Ghost with everyone on his back.
The Delivery Ghost, still leaning on the door, was terrified. It was always the deliveryman who went looking for others; never had anyone come searching for him with such passion. He felt he couldn’t bear it!
Teeth gritted in a sprint!
"Xiaofang! Hold on tight to me!"
As Han Fei passed by the Delivery Ghost, he tossed all the "stuff" on his back right into the huge corpse box.
He grabbed Xiaofang and, as they continued their escape, didn’t forget to ruthlessly smash something with the secret of reaching deep into the soul. Screams and wails rose, curses and Grudge Energy erupted, and the most chaotic night in the Death Building began just like that!
With Xiaofang and Brother Hua, Han Fei ran up another staircase.
Darkness and curses had completely swallowed everything behind them. The Delivery Ghost at the center was the most miserable; even the corpse box behind him was smashed, and it really had many items from other rooms inside.
Running up to the twenty-fourth floor in one go exhausted even Han Fei by his tremendous physical strength; his legs felt as though they were filled with lead, making each step laborious.
"We have to exit the game quickly; I’ve used up too much physical strength, and I can hardly run anymore."
Han Fei felt that if he couldn’t make it in the film industry in the future, he might become an athlete with the help of this game. Just remembering the feeling of being chased by a ghost, he should be able to run very fast in reality, as that emotion was already deep in his bones.
"This building was hiding so many ghosts..." Brother Hua panted. His condition seemed a bit better; mainly because all those horrific ghosts had been carried away by Han Fei alone, his shock had far exceeded his fear.
"Brother Bai, how did you come up with such a method?" Xiaofang’s reference to Han Fei had changed from Bai Sinian to Brother Bai, his eyes filled with respect.
"I was simply imitating. My teacher often did the same; he was the first security guard I met here," said Han Fei, referring to the old security guard at Yimin Private Academy. Compared to him, Han Fei still had a lot to learn.
Struggling to reach the fourth floor, Han Fei finally made it back to the security room before four forty-four in the morning, but just as he was about to enter, an electric crackling noise suddenly came through Brother Hua’s walkie-talkie.
"Can we finally contact the security of other buildings?!" Xiaofang was excited, feeling like surviving a calamity.
Brother Hua also sighed in relief. He brought the walkie-talkie close to his ear, but just as he was about to speak, a woman’s voice came from the device.
"Why did you leave me there alone..."
