Chapter 315: Twenty-Fourth Floor

Chapter 315: Chapter 315: Twenty-Fourth Floor

"Don’t even mention a regular community, even within the Death Building, someone like Han Fei was quite rare, at least for colleagues Xiaofang and Brother Hua, who were encountering such a person for the first time."

"Han Fei had already discovered the latest use for Red Skirt. While anyone else discovering a red dress in the bathroom at night would definitely try to destroy or dispose of it by all means, it was only Han Fei who would treasure it as an ’irreplaceable love’, not willing to part with it for even a moment."

"But that was only before Red Skirt had awakened, Han Fei hadn’t forgotten how Red Skirt had treated Xiaofang."

"Whatever he had done to Red Skirt, it was possible that she would retaliate even more fiercely."

"Han Fei, who was barely clinging to life mere hours ago, was now running at full speed, blood spurting from his wounds, yet his pace hadn’t decreased at all."

"This medical miracle was entirely thanks to the Building-jumping Ghost crazily climbing upward."

"Inside the safety passage of Building One, every place she had crawled over was left with traces of blood. She spread her hatred and Curse indiscriminately, and who knew what kind of experiences she had gone through in life to harbor such immense Grudge Energy?"

’"Brother Hua, you might as well put me down," Xiaofang, who hadn’t completely recovered, didn’t know what the traders had taken from him and currently couldn’t muster any strength at all.’

’"Do you know what’s down there?" Brother Hua lowered his head; he was older, and naturally, his legs weren’t as nimble as those of younger folks. After running all the way here, he could barely cope.’

"He didn’t say he couldn’t keep going, but his pace had gradually slowed, and his forehead was covered in sweat."

’"Brother Hua..."’

’"Don’t think it’s over just because you’re dead. There are ten thousand things more painful than death." Brother Hua squeezed these words out from between his teeth, appearing to know something: "If you can stay alive, no matter what, never give up."’

"Brother Hua dragged Xiaofang along, and both their speeds were slowing down. The ghostly shadow that climbed like a giant insect was getting closer and closer!"

"The thick scent of blood wafted into their nostrils, and the scattered bloodstains were mixed with chunks of flesh that bore black lettering. They could now hear the madly suppressed sound of that woman."

’"Who is upstairs? Who is in the corridor? Stop running, if I catch you, you’re dead!"’

’"You can’t run away, where can you run to? I will catch you, and push you all down!"’

’"Die, just die!"’

"The voices from below were like soul-stealing chains, growing clearer and clearer."

"When they reached the twenty-first floor, Brother Hua’s legs were trembling; he couldn’t hold out any longer, but he didn’t want to let go of Xiaofang."

"He seemed to have done something similar before, and now the same scene was unfolding once again."

"If only one person could survive, should he give that chance to someone else?"

"Inside the Death Building, no matter what choice one makes, there was no right or wrong. No one would blame him because when a world filled with ghosts exists, humans could attribute all faults and madness to Ghost and Monster."

"Xiaofang was not the first apprentice Brother Hua had brought with him, and Xiaofang had never asked about the whereabouts of Brother Hua’s previous apprentices. The master and apprentice had a tacit understanding; they never wanted to mention unpleasant things."

"But some things can’t be avoided simply by not talking about them."

"With no strength left in his legs and unable to hold onto Xiaofang any longer, both Brother Hua and Xiaofang would die."

’"Am I to make such a choice again?" Brother Hua knew Xiaofang wouldn’t blame him, but it was exactly this that made it even harder for him, as emotions collided in his Brain Sea, creating colorful patterns that blossomed like Bud petals.’

"His grip on Xiaofang’s fingers slowly loosened; he wanted to hold on a little longer, but he simply couldn’t keep hold of Xiaofang."

"As Brother Hua’s fingers loosened and Xiaofang was about to fall on the stairs, another hand reached out and grabbed his arm."

’"Run!"’

"While keeping an eye on the Building-jumping Ghost’s position, Han Fei noticed that the distance between himself and the two Security Guards was growing. He didn’t hesitate much before reaching back to help."

"To some people, the two Security Guards lagging behind might seem ideal for buying themselves time, thus decreasing the chances of getting caught by the ghost."

"As long as it increased their own chances of survival, sacrificing others didn’t matter."

As Brother Hua was making a choice, so was Han Fei, except Han Fei did not play by the rules of the Death Building. In other words, his choice was not what Butterfly wanted to see.

That malicious Butterfly, taking pleasure in manipulating human nature, deliberately let the beggar witness the truth in the initial Human-body Puzzle case, then watched as the beggar went to snitch, only to be chased away like a madman by the public.

To Butterfly, human nature was worthless, merely a tool, just patterns on its wings.

But in Han Fei’s eyes, human nature was the strongest, most vibrant flower that could bloom even at the very depths of the Abyss.

"Don’t stop!"

Han Fei grabbed Xiaofang and hoisted him onto his back.

The bandages were soaked with blood. Xiaofang and Brother Hua had never expected Han Fei to come to their rescue; they had hardly exchanged a few words.

"Bai Sinian..." Xiaofang etched this name deep into his heart, as saving someone at this critical moment was a gambit with one’s own life.

"Keep an eye on our back!"

With increased Physical Strength, Han Fei could carry Xiaofang without slowing his pace. Han Fei would not stand by when he could help, and he felt that these two Security Guards were his only teammates and must be cherished.

"Okay." Xiaofang turned to look behind them, and since Han Fei helped him, he wanted to return the favor.

He even made up his mind that if the Monster was about to catch up, he would grab it and roll down the building together, buying time for Han Fei.

With the Red Skirt tied around his neck, freeing his hands to carry Xiaofang, Han Fei had no other thoughts but to reach the top floor.

"I see you! I see you!" The building-jumping Ghost’s voice, coming from torn vocal cords, was horribly grating. When they reached the twenty-second floor, the Ghost appeared behind them.

Staircases stained with blood, as the body, smashed into pulp, was pieced together, its split torso being dragged upwards by twisted arms in a mad climb!

"I’ll drag you down with me! Touch me, and you’ll die!"

Knowing a Ghost was behind you was completely different from seeing the Ghost right at your back.

Brother Hua, who had barely maintained his composure, completely lost it when he saw the building-jumping Ghost; ghastly patterns of Ghosts and Monsters in black and red sprouted from the back of his neck, becoming more vivid as his fear intensified.

His steps upwards became feeble, despair written all over Brother Hua’s face.

Twisted arms cracking with the sound of breaking bones, the building-jumping Ghost’s hand lunged for Brother Hua’s back.

"Danger!" Xiaofang shouted a warning. Han Fei also saw the Monster pursuing them, and without hesitation, he flung the Red Skirt at its splintered hand.

Skirts are too light to hit someone effectively.

To ensure the skirt hit its target, Han Fei had stuffed a Security Guard’s walkie-talkie into the Red Skirt while running for his life.

The fragmented fingers caught the Red Skirt, and it was the first time the building-jumping Ghost touched this item, causing her to pause briefly.

The bloodstain on the Red Skirt and her blood acted like two sharp knives, piercing straight into each other’s souls. In that instant, blood began to spread through the entire building!

The Red Skirt was a Large-scaled Grudge. The building-jumping Ghost possessed some kind of Death Curse. Both had resided in the Death Building unharmed for a long time until they finally collided today.

Black curse stains from the Ghost spread over the Red Skirt, awakening a terrifying consciousness within it.

The building-jumping Ghost wanted to kill everyone and didn’t care about any skirt, trying to shred the one in her hand, but no matter how she tore at it, the Red Skirt remained completely unharmed.

Using that moment of her hesitation, the three Security Guards successfully made it to the twenty-fourth floor.

"The more afraid you are in the Death Building, the quicker you die." Han Fei recalled Jin Sheng’s advice and glanced back at Brother Hua, whose condition was already turning precarious.

"Forget it, let’s complete the task first!"

Opening the safety door, Han Fei carrying Xiaofang, arrived at room 1244. He desperately twisted the doorknob and found to his dismay that the door was indeed locked.
