Chapter 300 If You Cry, You’ll Die
Chapter 300: Chapter 300 If You Cry, You’ll Die
Not all butterflies in the world are beautiful; some are hideous and menacing, filled with toxins, like pets bred by the God of Death.
Ignoring the task at hand, Han Fei controlled his game character to walk towards the corpse in the corner of the room.
As he approached, the butterfly resting on the corpse suddenly fluttered its wings and began to fly around Han Fei.
Touching the corpse, Han Fei discovered several yellowed notes around it, each with blood-red text.
"If you’re scared, you will die!"
"If you look back, you will die!"
"If you see yourself in the mirror, you will die!"
"If you eat something in the room, you will die!"
"If you speak, you will die!"
One note after another seemed chilling. Han Fei didn’t know which one the corpse had drawn, but its death was certainly related to one of them.
"In the Death Building, you die if you do what the notes forbid? Is this some kind of curse?" Zhuang Ren was older, not quite able to grasp the rules. This game was already unlike any other on the market, with no experience to draw from.
"It seems so."
Han Fei’s gaze remained on the butterfly. After circling the game character a few times, it flew towards the interior of the house.
"Should we follow it? That butterfly looks like it could be the Game Guide."
"It is not the Game Guide; following it would lead to a terrible death." Before Han Fei finished speaking, the room where the game character was changed.
After the butterfly flew away, the door automatically closed, and behind the door, a line of blood writing appeared—your chosen method of death is to die if you move!
Han Fei hadn’t made a choice; he had simply touched the corpse and seen the text on those notes on the ground.
No matter how well he played, facing such an inevitable curse left no way to continue.
After hesitating for a long time, Han Fei tried to control the game character to move. At the instant of movement, the character turned into a pool of bloodstains, dying a miserable death.
The game screen reset to its initial state, and the words Death Building on the television screen cast a faint cold light.
"To clear the Death Building, you first need to choose a method of death that’s not easy to achieve." Han Fei stared at the screen, appearing to be playing the game, but in reality, his thoughts were all about matters related to the Deep World.
Glancing at the time, Han Fei felt he still had a chance to enter the "Death Building" again.
Getting up to stretch a bit, Han Fei picked up the game controller again, "Director Zhuang, can you order some takeout? Let’s just eat something and then continue trying to clear the game."
Han Fei acted as if he were back in his own home, with no politeness in his tone, yet Zhuang Ren was very accommodating, immediately pulling out his phone to start ordering food.
For Zhuang Ren, Han Fei was like his Savior, whose every request he would try to satisfy to the fullest.
Having to start over with each death, the tedious task process took several hours. By the time Han Fei re-entered the ninth map, it was already eight in the evening.
He wanted to figure out how to choose the method of death.
Moving cautiously through the corridor, the character navigated the ground floor, which housed twelve rooms, with Han Fei entering the first one on the left previously.
"Would different rooms hide different methods of death?"
This time Han Fei was more careful, but perhaps because he took too long, footsteps were heard from deep within the corridor, and something was closing in.
Several seconds later, the delivery man who had appeared on the second map re-emerged, his head bashed in, with horrifying growths at the tips of his five fingers, carrying a huge delivery box on his back and crawling towards Han Fei.
"Quick, find a room to hide in!" Zhuang Ren shouted in alarm. In a normal horror game, when a monster appears, hiding in a place would usually cause the monster to leave after a while.
Shaking his head, Han Fei controlled his game character to run towards the stairs. After he got out of the delivery man’s sight, he switched to another direction.
Lacking any combat ability, he resorted to playing hide-and-seek with the delivery man using the terrain, and astonishingly, Han Fei managed to evade the delivery man’s pursuit time and time again.
"There are not many things I’m good at, but hide-and-seek is one of them."
Using the staircases on both sides of the building, Han Fei successfully shook off the delivery man, but before he could catch his breath, his game character suddenly turned into blood and died on the spot.
"Dead again? Wasn’t killed by a ghost, didn’t trigger a curse, why did he suddenly die?" Zhuang Ren was puzzled, as this game could not be understood with normal thinking.
"It must be because I didn’t choose a way to die for a long time, so the Death Building arranged one for me," Han Fei narrowed his eyes, remembering something.
Because he had interfered with Butterfly’s plans multiple times, Han Fei was cursed by Death Building, destined to die in some way within a month.
This Death Curse was similar to the curses in the Death Building Game—if he entered the Death Building and chose another way to die, which curse would take effect in the end?
Looking at it from another angle, the people of Death Building had already cursed him to die in a certain way within a month, so could it indirectly mean that he had already accepted one of Death Building’s curses? Did he not need to accept another curse of death method to survive in the Death Building?
Death Building was not an ordinary game, and Han Fei’s way of thinking was also not that of an ordinary person’s.
After the second failure, Han Fei glanced at the time and thought it was still early, so he began his third attempt.
The previous eight maps had become more and more familiar to him, taking less and less time, and soon Han Fei entered the Death Building for the third time.
"Could you slow down with the controls..." Director Zhuang intended to mimic Han Fei, remembering his moves, but quickly gave up.
Many of Han Fei’s judgements were not things that one could accomplish simply by knowing how to do them. Even if he remembered them in his mind, his hands simply couldn’t carry them out.
Seeing this, Director Zhuang valued Han Fei even more; he thought that relying on his own abilities to get through the Death Building Game would probably be difficult in this lifetime.
If he wanted to see his family as soon as possible, he had to rely on Han Fei.
In everyone’s eyes, Zhuang Ren, who had already gone mad, was like a dedicated nanny in front of Han Fei, doing all sorts of "logistical" work diligently without Han Fei having to ask.
The first two deaths gave Han Fei some crucial information and in this third attempt, he planned to trigger another curse.
Avoiding the first and fourth rooms, Han Fei carefully observed the doors, trying to discern some clues.
Unfortunately, nothing could be gleaned just from the doors; one had to enter the rooms to know what was inside.
Timing it in his mind until the delivery man was about to appear, Han Fei then entered the third room on the first floor.
"There are no butterflies and corpses in this room."
The dilapidated room was filled with red scratch marks everywhere, arranged like a bridal room, except all the red was stained with blood.
The red double happiness characters on the walls didn’t evoke joy but were exceptionally chilling instead.
"A bridal room?"
Han Fei’s pupils slowly contracted as he walked through the living room and pushed open the bedroom door. Above the wedding bed with its red sheets hung a large black and white portrait.
The groom preserved his final appearance, and the bride wore a traditional Chinese wedding dress, her head covered by a red veil.
On the wall next to the portrait, someone had used their bloodied fingernails to carve out a sentence—Cry and you will die!
