My ‘Healing’ Game -
Chapter 299: The Blood-colored Map in the Healing-type Game
Chapter 299: Chapter 299: The Blood-colored Map in the Healing-type Game
The former owner of the Black Box was Fu Sheng, who is also the brother of the Chairman of Eternal Life Pharmaceutical. Han Fei had always believed that this person had truly existed since there were many traces related to him in the Deep World.
However, it was only after interacting with Zhuang Ren that Han Fei realized the Chairman of Eternal Life Pharmaceutical, who used to live in Lihua Residential Community, actually never had a brother—or at least he had never seen one.
Not just with Zhuang Ren, even the family of the Chairman of Eternal Life Pharmaceutical and the legal team hired at the time of his death never mentioned a brother.
With a frown of contemplation, Han Fei thought the answer he had assumed was just the beginning of another mystery.
The Black Box was like a special world; the more you knew, the more you would feel your own ignorance and shallowness.
"The last person who possessed the Black Box, his younger brother became the closest thing to a god, changing the era. Yet, I’m worn out from the struggle, unable to do even the most basic act of living. Where did the problem start? And why in the end was Fu Sheng killed, meeting the fate of having his memories torn apart?"
More questions flooded his brain sea, and now Han Fei just wanted to dive into the game to seek out the former Building Chief’s other Memory Fragments; he was too eager to know the truth.
"The region I’m in can only be considered the starting point of the game. Up until now, I haven’t stepped out of Newbie Village. After breaching Death Building, maybe then I will truly start confronting that world."
While Han Fei was silently pondering, Zhuang Ren started playing the game again, controlling the character through all of the maps until the very moment Death Building appeared, and he dropped dead at its entrance.
In the afternoon, having watched Zhuang Ren play for a long time, Han Fei had memorized the process of clearing the game. After getting Zhuang Ren’s consent, he too gave the actual operation a try.
The game was filled with various hints: the child catching butterflies in the map of Happiness Residential Community, the nameless elder brother in Lihua Residential Community, and Death Building which inevitably led to death upon appearance.
There were only eight maps in the game, yet each story within them could be interpreted in countless ways.
Zhuang Ren had explored all possible ways to clear the game but still couldn’t succeed.
Han Fei’s intention for playing the game was different from Zhuang Ren’s. Clearing the game held no attraction for him; he was more intent on understanding what exactly did the Chairman of Eternal Life Pharmaceutical want to express?
He had personally been involved in the Human-body Puzzle case, lived under the same roof as the eight victims, and even became the Building Chief of Building One in Happiness Residential Community. He could be considered one of the people who knew Happiness Residential Community best in the world.
Watching the little characters interact with neighbors in the game, Han Fei also felt very odd.
The game’s graphics were warm and harmonious; even if there were conflicts between neighbors, they would always be resolved in the end. This was completely a Healing-type small game.
"It feels like it’s a minimalist version of ’Perfect Life,’ with a beautiful and warm exterior, but underneath the clothes, there hides an Evil Ghost that chooses people to devour."
Han Fei had such feelings because he had been to the Deep World.
"This game was made decades ago, and the map of Happiness Residential Community just happens to conceal eight puzzles, which seem to reflect the Human-body Puzzle case, yet the Human-body Puzzle case happened just ten years ago."
"Did the Chairman of Eternal Life Pharmaceutical predict the Human-body Puzzle case? Or did someone start implementing a series of plans based on the game left by the Chairman of Eternal Life Pharmaceutical?"
"Could Butterfly also know about the existence of this game? Could Zhuang Ren be Butterfly? Or perhaps... Butterfly is the Chairman of Eternal Life Pharmaceutical?"
"It’s not a prophecy, but rather crafting the future with one’s own hands?"
Thinking this, Han Fei broke into a cold sweat.
However, gradually, Han Fei regained his calm. The likelihood that Butterfly was the Chairman of Eternal Life Pharmaceutical was very small, but it probably knew the Chairman of Eternal Life Pharmaceutical.
To verify his speculation, Han Fei prepared to recreate the Human-body Puzzle case within the Death Building Game.
To recreate the Human-body Puzzle case, one must first know how the killer operated, and clearly understand where the pieces of the body puzzles were ultimately hidden—details only known to Han Fei and the police involved in the investigation.
Based on various sub-quests summarized by Zhuang Ren from his previous attempts, Han Fei first fostered good relationships with all neighbors. Everyone was happily united, and the community was very peaceful and harmonious.
While everyone was enjoying the beautiful life, Han Fei, in the fifth-floor kitchen of the community, accepted a task to peel apples. After accepting it, he did not go to peel apples but instead went down to the first floor, preparing to act.
Zhuang Ren seemed to have guessed Han Fei’s thoughts. His bloodshot eyes blinked, and he casually said, "It’s meaningless. I tried killing all the NPCs on the map, but I couldn’t even get through to the final map. The first eight maps of the game seem to be about perfecting Happiness, creating warm memories, and then contrasting starkly with Death Building."
Han Fei didn’t listen to Zhuang Ren. He remembered each victim’s death, and to his shock, he found that using tools obtained from various quests in the building, he could actually perfectly recreate the Human-body Puzzle case inside the building.
The Death Building Game had day and night cycles. Zhuang Ren could clear the first map in just ten minutes, while Han Fei, just to kill the first victim, had prepared a full twenty minutes.
After he killed all eight victims and hid their bodies just like in reality, the game interface indeed changed.
Zhuang Ren, who had played the Death Building Game to exhaustion, hadn’t expected Han Fei to actually succeed, his eyes widening in shock.
On the television screen, Han Fei used the bodies of seven test subjects to piece together the eighth victim—Little Eight.
After the appearance of the girl who had already died, the originally warm and cute style of the game instantly turned oppressive and sinister.
When Han Fei placed Little Eight’s corpse in room 1044 of Happiness Residental Community, the game’s graphics turned completely blood-red. Little Eight seemed like a key, unlocking the other side of the entire map!
"Little Eight is a key!" Han Fei had heard many people say so, but he never understood why, until today when he finally caught a glimmer of insight: "Why is she so special? What is hidden on her body?"
Han Fei’s mind was troubled by countless questions, but he had no time to think now—the map had changed. Where once the community was warm and inviting, monsters and madmen now roamed everywhere, killing on sight as if they had completely lost all rationality and humanity.
"How about... I take over?" Zhuang Ren saw that the game had finally taken a new turn and was worried that Han Fei might get killed by the monsters, but after just a few seconds, he realized he was worrying too much.
Through Han Fei’s control, the game’s character leveraged various objects in the building to carve out a path to survival amidst the ghosts and monsters, as familiar with it as if he had experienced something similar himself!
Zhuang Ren’s view of Han Fei had changed; he did not even realize that, as a young child, he had looked at the Chairman of Eternal Life Pharmaceutical with the same gaze.
With extreme skill, Han Fei managed to escape from Happiness Residental Community, and then he entered the second map.
Following the trigger with Little Eight, all subsequent maps had also changed. Zhuang Ren had never played these gore-filled versions, and just watching made his blood run cold. However, Han Fei remained composed as ever, calm as a cold machine.
The second map, the third map, the fourth map...
As Han Fei’s speed of clearing the levels increased, the only sound left in the room was the clicking of the game controller buttons.
At this moment, Han Fei focused all his attention on the game, feeling that it was very likely he would encounter these things in the Death Building, so he was not only playing the game but also memorizing every landscape, character, and dialogue!
His pupils constantly flickered, and fine blood vessels gradually climbed over his eyeballs. Han Fei stared at the TV screen, his hands as nimble as birds, and while he played, his lips parted slightly as he silently recited everything from the game.
Zhuang Ren, sitting side by side with Han Fei on the sofa, could no longer interject; nor did he dare interrupt Han Fei.
Compared to the current Han Fei, he appeared so normal and mediocre.
The fifth map, the sixth map...
Without speaking or interacting, maintaining the same posture, Han Fei rapidly cleared the most difficult Blood-colored Purgatory.
From noon until dark, without even a sip of water, Han Fei completed the eighth map.
The character within the game had long been thoroughly stained red, as the gaming graphics had almost wholly turned blood red as well.
The room was now extremely silent, with both Han Fei and Zhuang Ren intently focused on the gaming screen.
As the blood fell, the ninth map featuring the Death Building finally appeared!
However, this time was different from before—in the blood-colored map, the doors of the Death Building were open.
The dark entrance resembled the open mouth of an evil ghost, waiting for the living to enter.
Hands gripping the game controller were soaked with sweat, and Han Fei paused for quite a while before moving the character towards the Death Building.
Zhuang Ren and Han Fei’s hearts both clenched; he had never entered the Death Building before.
Under the watchful eyes of both, the character in the game walked towards the corridor and then stepped into the Death Building!
"We made it!" Zhuang Ren’s excitement was indescribable at this moment. He did not know how many times he had played, how many controllers he had smashed, and he had even been considered a madman—all for this moment.
"To enter the Death Building, one must first understand the process and methodology of the Human-body Puzzle case, and then enter the Deep World to obtain the crucial information that Little Eight lived in room 1044. Knowing all this, one must also clear eight blood-colored maps without dying to qualify to be here." Han Fei succeeded on his first try, but he was well aware of how difficult this game was for ordinary people, who virtually stood no chance of clearing it.
Compared to Zhuang Ren, Han Fei was much more composed as he watched the game screen once again fill with blood. He controlled the character to push open the first door inside the Death Building.
"Please choose a way of dying that you can accept?"
After entering the room, this question was written on the blood-red walls.
Zhuang Ren considered all the possibilities, attempting various interpretations.
Han Fei, however, looked towards the other side of the room, where a colorful butterfly settled upon a corpse in the corner. This butterfly was unlike any he had seen before; its wings bore two terrifying ghost faces.
