Chapter 283: Young Security Guard

Chapter 283: Chapter 283: Young Security Guard

Han Fei rarely cared about what others said, even if the "Fierce Ghost" in the Deep World thought he was weak, had low emotional intelligence, was introverted, or had social anxiety, he wouldn’t get angry because that was just the kind of person he was.

Compared to the "Ghost and Monster" of the Deep World, Acting was his last shred of pride.

But unexpectedly, his acting, which had never shown any flaws, was seen through, which made Han Fei somewhat uncomfortable, especially since he was a professional actor in reality.

A deformed figure crawled rapidly through the corridor as Han Fei and several "Grudges" behind him chased frantically, both parties completely shedding their disguises.

With every blackout, the deformed figure noticed that Han Fei was getting closer.

A trace of unease flickered across the blurred, bloody face, and blood slid down the cracked skull. The malformed figure didn’t dare look back casually, fearing that the other might suddenly appear behind him or be perched on his shoulder.

Recalling that more and more shadows were forming behind the man, its blood-stained face showed panic and shock.

The man was possessed by more than one ghost; it was already too late for him, as there was no place left on the man’s body for it!

Only this explanation made sense, as to why all of his actions couldn’t be judged by normal standards.

Internally, the creature sought excuses to flee, and after sprinting around a corner of a corridor, it crashed into the darkness.

The scent of blood in the air was gradually replaced by mildew as Han Fei, staring into the dark tunnel ahead, stopped in his tracks.

"You run quite fast," said Han Fei, his face free of fear, controlling his expressions as effortlessly as ordinary people eat and drink.

"Should we continue chasing?" In the hallway devoid of anyone but Han Fei, another man’s voice suddenly sounded.

Upon hearing that voice, Han Fei was not only unafraid but also responded calmly.

"Of course. My favorite game to play is always Hide-and-Seek."

Han Fei had no idea what the fourth underground level was used for, nor what had happened there; his current goal was to find more "people" to make deeper contact with. If there were hidden missions, he’d trigger them; if there weren’t, he’d see if he could create some to take on.

"Be careful. This place gives me a bad feeling," said the voice of the man, which quickly disappeared and reemerged as a shadow clinging to Han Fei’s back.

Glancing at the several added shadows behind him, Han Fei also gradually understood why the earlier creature was scared off—not because of his poor acting, but because his "neighbors" blew their cover.

The smell of blood in the air was replaced by the stench of mold, and walls cluttered with debris began to exhibit various writings, mostly in red paint, filled with resentment and various negative emotions.

As the debris in the middle of the corridor increased, after turning another corner, Han Fei discovered a door made of black steel bars welded together, with a broken sign hanging, indicating "No Entry".

The way was blocked.

Leaning on the door to look inside, the odd smell in the hallway mostly wafted from deeper within the corridor.

Gently shaking the steel bars, the door was welded very solidly—it was impossible to get through without a key.

After lingering quietly in place for a moment, Han Fei looked towards a room next to the iron door.

The old wooden door’s lock was broken off, and a legless table leaned against the door panel. It seemed unremarkable at first glance, but a closer look revealed the issue.

There were fingerprints on the edge of the table, showing that someone had moved it recently.

Passive Ability Hide-and-Seek was unwittingly triggered, and Han Fei had an almost talented, terrifying intuition for hiding and seeking.

He quietly moved the table aside and entered the room, making no sound throughout the process.

Holding the Spiritual Altar, Han Fei deftly avoided the clutter on the floor and arrived next to the shattered cabinet window.

Peeking inside, a young man in a security guard uniform was crouching below the window sill. He held an aged book of ghost stories in his hand, biting his finger and concentrating intently on the text.

The ghostly faces on the book’s pages were fierce and terrifying, but the color had started to fade, and the man’s expression changed as the plot progressed.

His chest heaved, feeling very scared, but he couldn’t help wanting to continue reading.

At this moment, the scene inside the room was somewhat horrifying, the young security guard curled up, engrossed in the ghost story book, while above his head, a human face quietly appeared, silently watching him.

In the darkness, it was hard to tell how much time had passed, but the young security guard finally finished a story.

He wiped the cold sweat from his forehead, blew warm air into his palms, then twisted his stiff neck.

Glancing at the cheap digital watch on his wrist, the young security guard picked up the ghost story book, supported himself on the floor, and prepared to stand up.

"Time to patrol, can’t keep slacking off."

Supporting himself with his hands, he was halfway up when his drifting gaze inadvertently swept to the top of his head.

It was as if his brain had been struck by lightning, and he remained in the same position, as if time had frozen.

At the damaged part of the window, there was a human face!

They locked eyes, with a subtle atmosphere wafting through the air.

"Don’t be afraid, I’m the new security guard," Han Fei, who just wanted to complete his task and level up and had little interest in scaring people, showed a kind, warm smile on his face and then emerged from behind the window in that blood-stained security guard uniform.

Sitting down on the floor with a thump, the young security guard kicked against the floor, moving backward until he hit the wall with his back.

"If I wanted to harm you, I would have done it by now, I really am a security guard," Han Fei extended his hand towards the man, trying to pull him up.

"You, stop lying to me! My master just told me recently, this underground fourth floor is very eerie. There was a security guard who came here at midnight to inspect, and he never came out again!" The young security guard looked at Han Fei’s hand extended towards him as if he were looking at a hissing snake.

"Knowing it’s dangerous here, why would you come to this place to read ghost stories? If you often walk at night, how can you not bump into ghosts?" Han Fei felt as though he had somehow stepped into a weird role, these words should not be his to say.

"This is the only place in the entire building without surveillance, I..."

"So you ran here to slack off?" Looking at the gloomy and terrifying room, Han Fei sincerely remarked, "Has the Security Company also rolled down to this extent? Forcing employees to slack off in a forbidden area where someone died?"

Using the secret that touches the depths of the soul, Han Fei pulled the young security guard up, and casually brushed off the dust on his shoulder: "You don’t have to be afraid, I really am the new security guard; take me around other places, I have many things I want to ask you."

"You really aren’t a ghost?" The young security guard poked Han Fei’s arm, feeling the long-missed warmth.

"Is it really so hard to prove that I’m human?" Han Fei was somewhat helpless, he reached over, snatched the young man’s book of ghost stories, and stuffed it into the Spiritual Altar: "Try to read less of these books, how can there be so many ghosts in the world? You should believe in science!"

With that, he turned and walked towards the outside, as sinister shadows snuck in the moment the Spiritual Platform was opened.
