Chapter 275: Chapter 275: Death Building - Starting as a Security Guard
In order to identify exactly what the insect was, Han Fei had just reached out and touched it.
At this moment, his fingertips had already turned black. It had only been a few seconds past midnight, and he had completely lost feeling in his entire hand.
Black ghostly shadows surged beneath the flesh, simultaneously devouring it while relentlessly spreading toward Han Fei’s heart.
He couldn’t feel any pain; it was as though his spirit was paralyzed in silence, as if it wasn’t his body, but his soul that was poisoned.
Pulling out the Rebirth Saber, Han Fei’s complexion was terrible. While he hesitated whether to chop off his own fingers, the evil insect ran over again.
It bit down on Han Fei’s finger, and the Soul Poison injected into his body was instantly sucked away, the black ghostly shadows reluctantly returned to the Big Evil’s body.
Han Fei was saved, but his life value had also decreased by one third. Now, his complexion was terrifyingly pale, and he had no strength left in his body.
"What a domineering poison."
Looking at the evil insect, Han Fei didn’t dare to get close anymore.
Merely touching its head had nearly sent him to his death; who would dare to mess with this thing?
"Player number 0000, please note! You were not killed by the Soul Poison of the Big Evil! Your Curse Poison resistance has increased by one!"
The evil insect was having fun on its own in the Corpse Pit. Han Fei didn’t want to keep this ticking time bomb by his side, nor did he dare to leave it alone in the Pet Store. What worried Han Fei more was that if he abandoned this evil insect, it would be tragic if it eventually found its way back to him.
"Shall I... train it into a pet as well?"
Nine-life, despite appearing terrifying, had at least some resemblance to pets, such as having animal-like fur. Han Fei could at least hypnotize himself by saying it was a little kitten from the Underworld.
But Big Evil truly had nothing in common with pets, not even a starting point.
Besides, it was inherently an omen of death, and Han Fei already had friends like Huang Ying, who had abnormally low Luck Value, and the disaster-bringers Li Zai and Li Nan.
If things continued this way, Han Fei genuinely feared he might accumulate a complete natural disaster, leaving corpses everywhere he went.
After a long internal struggle, under the watchful eyes of his neighbors, Han Fei approached Big Evil once more with a resolve akin to facing death.
He aimed at the less spiky part of Big Evil’s head and used his active ability, Pet Training.
"Training failed! You have been poisoned by the Soul Poison, please seek treatment immediately!"
"Training failed!"
"Training failed!"
...
"Player number 0000! You have successfully tamed Level G Curse Poison Creature—Big Evil."
"Big Evil (Level G Curse Class Pet): Through your astonishing personal charm and the grace of nurturing, you have gained the friendship of Big Evil!"
"Loyalty: Fifty (It rather trusts you, you are the first person willing to approach it)."
"Hidden Talent One: Soul Poison (Its body contains extreme poison, capable of scorching the soul)."
"Hidden Talent Two: Cannibalism (Blood and corpses can help it recover and grow rapidly)."
"Hidden Talent Three: Natural Enemy (Born from devouring butterflies, all abilities are doubled against butterfly-related curses and Residual Souls)."
"Hidden Talent Four: Death Omen (It can directly attack the weak spots in the soul, and likes to stay near people on the brink of death)."
According to the official "Perfect Life" website, pets with attributes and hidden talents are extremely rare; even having a pet with just one hidden talent is considered top-notch, but Big Evil initially had four hidden talents in its larval stage.
Although it was only a Level G pet, its starting point was much higher than that of other pets.
Excitedly reading the description, Han Fei suddenly found Big Evil less annoying; instead, he thought it was ugly-cute, which might just be the layer of maternal blindness or the dog’s loyalty to its impoverished home.
However, when he looked at Big Evil’s last talent, his expression froze again, "Likes to stay beside those about to die?"
Turning to look at Big Evil, who sat by his side as quiet as a rock, Han Fei’s feelings were indeed complex.
Good and bad fortune are linked, and Big Evil appeared due to various accidents, and it probably liked following Han Fei because Han was cursed with a death spell by the people of Death Building, doomed to die soon, which perfectly suited Big Evil’s appetite.
"Death is nothing to be afraid of; this little fellow’s appearance at least gives me an added strength," Han Fei was now a very optimistic person, and it was necessary for survival in the Underworld.
As Han Fei worried about how to carry Big Evil with him, having eaten and played enough, Big Evil retracted its spikes and fully turned into a black stone.
Han Fei tried picking it up; now, Big Evil felt cool and icy, making it seem ideal as a pillow during the summer.
Placing Big Evil inside the Cry Spiritual Altar, Han Fei then took down the iron cage’s bloodstained and pet hair-covered chain. He was not willing to forgo anything that might be of use.
"Player number 0000, you have successfully discovered a Level G Curse Item — Blood-colored Pet Chain."
"Blood-colored Pet Chain: Pets bound by this chain are mostly killed; their residual souls and fur cling to the chain, continuously wailing day and night."
Perhaps because Han Fei had taken Nine-life as a pet, he didn’t feel anything unusual when he touched the chain and easily added it to his item bar.
"Blood-colored Paperman, Wish Jar, Pet Chain... I own quite a few cursed items now, but to protect myself in Death Building, these still aren’t enough."
Level G Curse Items have limited effects, but what Han Fei really wants is a Level F Cursed Item, like the Blood-colored Paperman. Even a broken Level F Cursed Item would be far stronger than Level G ones.
Recalling the map left by the previous Building Chief, Han Fei began formulating his plan.
In this area, the most dangerous structure was Death Building. If ranked by levels, all buildings he had visited before were Level F in difficulty, but Death Building was Level E.
This is not to say all ghosts in Death Building are terrifying, just that there are more terrifying ghosts there.
In the Deep World at this stage, ghosts are categorized as Regret, Grudge, and Hatred; Han Fei had yet to encounter Hatred, which may well exist in Death Building.
"Before entering Death Building, it might be best to explore some buildings as much as possible, and even alright to draw some dangerous ghosts there," Han Fei silently thought, "It’s been a long time since I heard that eerie song, and I wonder where that Unspeakable existence has gone."
Carrying the Spiritual Altar out of the pet store, Han Fei visited the neighboring shops with the locals.
Only when it became hard to trigger more quests on Yimin Street did he return to Yimin Convenience Store.
Upon entering the shop, Han Fei felt a chill enter his heart; he summoned Yinglong and Cry before daring to walk toward the counter.
A faint smell of blood wafted around, and at that moment, a woman in a bridal dress, towering over two meters, stood behind the shelves, looking very frightening.
"It shouldn’t be time for our appointment yet, should it?" Han Fei looked up at her, a flicker of confusion in his eyes.
The woman in the bridal dress did not speak; she simply threw a set of clothes on the floor.
Han Fei unfolded the clothes and discovered they were a blood-stained security guard uniform, with the name of a certain complex written on the back.
"A security guard from Death Building has gone missing; you will replace them in a few days," said the woman in the bridal dress in a cold tone, her expression terrifying.
"You want me to be a security guard at Death Building?" Han Fei silently glanced at the title of Workplace Killer and then nodded.
"Fine, no problem."
